  1. They probably count on the fact that the vast majority never get claimed because people don't watch the episode where they're picked. So they can "give away" far more than they actually have to pay for.
  2. Tickets now available via TicketPro.cz (site has English option): https://shop.ticketpro.cz/event_detail.asp?evnt=523110 790 CKZ includes service charge, add 20 CKZ (approximately $1) per order for e-ticket. Visa/MC accepted. Total cost for two tickets, 1600 CKZ, or about $85.
  3. How were you able to get a ticket? I can't find the show online for sale anywhere, and I sent an e-mail last night but have received no response. Update: Ah, I see that I can order tickets for cash pickup from the Colosseum box office, but I don't see any other option, such as having them mailed to the US.
  4. More details, now in English: The Stimul Festival rolls out its first fall triumph: WILCO! Venue is the Archa Theatre (Divadlo Archa) Appears to be a GA venue, with a capacity of roughly 1000. Tickets on sale today at CZK720 (roughly $38).
  5. Indeed, I really love the look of that venue. Never been to Vienna, but the distance and timing would work nicely with the (I hope) Prague date.
  6. Thanks for all the leads! We're still on the fence about Berlin as we both vastly prefer GA shows where we can get up front and not worry about the standing/sitting issue. Also waiting for announcement of a show in the Czech Republic, which could actually be on my birthday (Sep 29) if it comes after the Berlin show as I would expect.
  7. The Berlin show on September 27 is perfect timing for us, as we were planning a European vacation then anyway. But when I tried to buy tickets online, I found that the site is (a) in German only and ( apparently available to Germans only. Anyone with local knowledge have a suggetion for how to get tickets? Also, with three price ranges, is it GA with different areas (main floor, upstairs, or is it a seated venue?
  8. Wow, that was offensive on so many levels. Even worse, it's not funny, just racist.
  9. So many haikus Even Tweedy needs some time Patience grasshopper
  10. Well, if it was shot in HD video or film, it would benefit from a transfer. But the lighting conditions for most concert footage offer a challenge. I had not heard of the band nixing this one, but they would know best.
  11. +10 on this. Although Ashes of American Flags looks pretty good on an upscaled DVD player, it's still a cut below Blu-ray.
  12. You do realize that you sound like an unsocialized four-year-old? I feel sorry for anyone who was sitting near you, who had to endure a long distraction while you argued with security while they were trying to listen to the music.
  13. Wow, no Shot in the Arm or You Never Know. Some nice surprises there.
  14. [updated to include Toronto night 1] I do spreadsheets in my day job, so I thought it might be fun to pop recent setlists into the grid and see what comes out. I used setlists from the 10 11 most recent shows, starting with London Troxy and running through Columbus Toronto night 1. The songs that appear on the setlist break into four groups: CORE These 10 songs have been played, without exception, at every show. The first six usually kick off the show with minor shuffling of the order. Wilco (the song) A Shot in the Arm One Wing IATTBYH Bull Black Nova You Are My Face Impossible Germany
  15. Ha! Funny you should mention that. I saw Springsteen on back-to-back nights at Winterland in December 1978. He played 25 songs each night, of which 20 were identical, and even in the identical order. I do not recall being disappointed in either night's performance.
  16. I thought this bit from the Dallas show (thanks for posting this recording so fast!) was interesting. Someone called out a request for Pot Kettle Black. Tweedy says they're not gonna play that. Crowd goes awwwwww. Cue this short rant from a clearly exasperated Tweedy: Mind you, this was right after playing Company in My Back, followed immediately by Kamera, and shortly thereafter by Cars Can't Escape. Point taken.
  17. I think my favorite track from this band is "Bible and a Gun," especially the version Jason Ringenberg recorded solo with Steve Earle. Guaranteed goosebumps! Will be interesting to see if age has mellowed their sometimes frantic approach.
  18. The Stones? Seriously? We live on different planets. They've been a prancing parody of a rock band since about 1985. No, of course not. My experience is different from yours. They've lived up to my lofty expectations. Wish I could have had your Dallas ticket. Sounds like I would have enjoyed the show more.
  19. That's where you lost me. It sounds like you have a picture in your mind of what you want this band to be, and they just don't live up to it. They are what they are. This year I've seen Wilco at Red Rocks, Dublin Vicar Street (twice), and Iowa City. Two of those nights were transcendent, and the other two were just a whole lot of fun. No disconnects. I also don't recall looking at the crowd and passing judgment on their coolness at any point. We did meet really interesting fun people at every show we attended. I guess I just don't understand what the problem is, except maybe you need to fi
  20. There's a pinned thread at the top of this board that explains how FrontGate Ticketing works.
  21. Thank you thank you thank you thank you. Oh, and thank you. This show reminds me very much of when they played Popejoy Hall in Albuquerque in 2009. Tweedy characterized that one as "lavender-scented" after the first half. Sadly, have never seen (or, obviously, heard) a recording of it.
  22. In Iowa City, some folks near us had their youngster with them, probably about the same age. The poor kid was miserable. The music was too loud, and the show is way too long to hold the interest of a child that young. I would recommend against it. Now, the 12-year-old right in front of us directly in front of John in the first row was having a great time. But there's a big diff btwn ages 5 and 12.
  23. Hey, who's up for a road trip to Duluth in February? (Not me.) Lucky folks in Portland and Seattle. The Paramount is a fabulous location, acoustically near perfect (although even at my advanced age I prefer GA). Anyway, it's all theoretical to me as I'll be on a tropical beach that week so will have to miss both shows.
  24. The cast has some talent. The current crop of writers are doing extra sucky work. SNL has gone through ups and downs before, and good writing is always what brings it back.
  25. Finally stopped recording it. Yes, there were great moments last year, but we couldn't make it even partway through either of the first two eps this season. I mean, they have the whole freakin' summer to write the first episode, so it should at least have something memorable. But it started out shitty and went downhill. Buh bye, SNL.
