  1. Sir... I say, sir... Those are fighting words. (Slaps with glove.) This sort of insult will not go unchallenged. I will expect a response from your second forthwith.
  2. The official technical spec sheet for the Civic Opera says the Mezzanine boxes consist of "248 seats." There are 31 boxes, each with 8 seats in them. The seats themselves look to be very plush, judging by this picture: http://www.civicoperahouse.org/files/Ardis_Krainik_Theatre_credi.jpg.
  3. Wow, what a difference the Etix process made. I was online at 10:55, refreshing every 15 seconds or so. At 11AM on the dot, the Buy button went live. I clicked, entered the captcha code, was offered two tickets, filled in the CC details, and clicked Buy. All done in less than a minute. So we've now got our tickets for Ryan Adams at the Cadillac Theatre on Sunday, Wilco at the Opera House on Monday, and Wilco at the Riviera on Tuesday. Now we just have to wait patiently for the next, oh, 10 weeks or so.
  4. Yep, sold out at 3:13. I got out of the waiting room and got to the ticketing screen for about 4 minutes, but it kept saying no tickets were available. Damn.
  5. From @wilco on Twitter, a few seconds ago: Couple hundred seats just opened up for the Civic Opera House show in Chicago on Dec 12 - 2-tix limit. On sale 5p cdt: http://t.co/w9EFstL1 (I hope these were confiscated from scalpers.)
  6. OK, I'm taking bets: At which show will they do I Love My Label as an encore with Nick Lowe on vocals?
  7. Hey, save a slice for me! I'll be there in (checks watch)...never mind.
  8. A fairly representative set list so far, but dynamite sound and (with the exception of that painfully out of tune moment in One Wing) great playing. Sharpshooter Pinot Noir flowing here...
  9. The opera season ends on December 11. Wilco is there on the12th, and there is nothing scheduled for the rest of the month. So, a good chance indeed.
  10. The dress circle is the first half of the first balcony, above the mezzanine boxes, rows A-J.
  11. It took me about 12 minutes with two browser windows open and perhaps 50 refreshes, but I finally snagged a pair of mezzanine boxes, section 12, GA5 and GA6. Judging by the seating chart, those are pretty damn good. So we're going to Chicago!
  12. Woohoo! We got Mezzanine boxes from the General availability presale. Section 12 GA5 and GA6. If I'm reading the seating chart correctly, that's the first row of boxes, pretty much in front of Nels. So it's on to Chicago!
  13. Okkervil River (Red Rocks, July 2009) Blitzen Trapper (Europe tour, late summer 2009)
  14. I burst out laughing at the end, when Don was lying in bed and the clock radio began playing Sonny and Cher's "I Got You, Babe." It was an absolutely pitch-perfect reference to Groundhog Day, which used the same device to mark the beginning of Bill Murray's day that he had to relive again and again and again until he got it right.
  15. Do you mean the quality of the digital files themselves? Because those are supplied by the labels and are identical to what you would get at Amazon or another MP3 source (iTunes tracks are in AAC format, so are encoded differently).
  16. An amazing set. That epic setlist is accurate with two tiny corrections: For The Season should be Laminated Cat (same song, different title) You Never Know was the first song of the encore. Loved the venue. The sound was excellent at stage front where we were standing, and the band was clearly energized by a great crowd. Kingpin: "Living in ... Prague." Followed by "I want to be your bigwig, Living in ... the Czech Republic." Jeff thanked the roadies, saying "We want to be the world's best rock band. I don't know if we're there, but we do have the best road crew." And he noted that t
  17. I think it's actually the band that doesn't want half the audience paying more attention to their cameras and phones than to the performance. I write about tech for a living, so I love these devices for the things they do. But I think they have a dark side too. I would find it pretty disconcerting as an artist if a large part of my audience were holding something in front of their face or typing text into a phone while I was pouring my heart out.
  18. It was at the second night show. Mentioned here: http://forums.viachicago.org/topic/41383-vicar-st-28-8-09-dublin-ireland/page__p__1360967#entry1360967 We were there and actually met Deanna. Kind of surreal to see them in Vienna this year! And audio recording is still OK, but I have to say I enjoy the shows much more without the constant distraction of cameras.
