  1. I would imagine at least travel costs are covered, and in some cases (particularly tribute concerts) they are probably paid by the organizer, and probably well. In the case of something like the Last Waltz I would guess there wasn't much pay involved beyond bringing the particular performers in.
  2. Hey rocking friends. Time for a little self-plug here. I just finished up an album of mine that's been sitting around for a very long time, and I'm pretty excited about it. It might not totally knock your socks off, but I think some of the songs are pretty good, you can check them out here: The Noble Octopus . I have exactly 100 copies and would love to sell them all. If you want a copy of the album it's only $4 + $2 for shipping there's a paypal link on my music site, or just pm me and we can work something out. $1 from every album will go to Doctor's Without Borders so you can feel
  3. The bird cloud would be pretty sweet, just saying.
  4. Going to a show is a wonderful experience, but to me studio albums have the precision and detail that really makes me want to listen to music all the time. So studio albums, yeah.
  5. Honestly, you'll find no bigger friend of local/organic foods than me, but I still don't see the issue with this legislation unless it is intended to be enforced specifically to drive out organic farmers (I highly doubt it). As LouieB points out, "organic" is huge business now, I'm sure even Monsanto has some stock in the organic market, and that's not a sector that's going away. It's in fact the fastest growing. Yes, they do set out "minimum" standards, but they say nothing about herbicides or pesticides being part of this as "mandatory," and I can't imagine that an organic farm would hav
  6. So they're hiring me, huh, well that's good news.
  7. Why do you come to VC regularly? What do you get out of coming here? The combination of good music discussion and genuinely awesome people who are here. I also feel a sense of community how ever "removed" it is by the impersonality of the interwebs. How did you get into VC? I joined to see what the buzz was for A Ghost is Born before it came out and to try and get some b-sides, etc. from YHF. I slowly "got into" the VC after that...but I think it took a little while. Maybe 2 years? Do you consider yourself a Wilco fan, even if you hate AM/SBS/BT/MA/MA2/whichever album blew chunks? How

  9. Misunderstood is my favorite of the pair.
  10. Alright, after skimming much of the bill I don't see the concern. Yeah, Monsanto is a big bad corporation and does all sorts of lobbying to try and help their own cause...but this bill seems mostly like a response to the peanut scare and Chinese food scandals. I guess under the wording it would be theoretically possible that the Food Safety Administration could seize a bunch of organic food or a local garden if it was considered "unsafe." But nowhere does it say in there that organic is unsafe, or home gardening unsafe, etc. Mostly it concentrates food regulation into less agencies and giv

  13. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot for me, though I did listen to Summerteeth a lot recently.
  14. They're pretty cool lyrically too. But yeah, buy some Califone, that stuff is grand.
  15. I think that's the entire Friday lineup, though I could be wrong about that. Either way...Sonic Youth on Saturday or Sunday would be enough to get me to go regardless of the other bands on those days. Pretty sure they're just the first announced, not the headliners. They'll slowly roll the lineup out like they did the last few years.
  16. Thanks man! There's a bunch of new stuff up there (with vocals for the most part). Departure is a Strat, like most of the electric tracks on the songs, but I just recently got a Jazzmaster that I've been playing like crazy (all the contraption tracks are with that guitar).
  17. Friday's lineup has me very excited. from the Pitchfork
  18. Lots of good stuff. Definitely like Red Apple Falls a lot and his latest release.
  19. Agreed. And, agreed. I really love YHF, but I don't think that studio overdubs and layering necessarily make for a better record, they can, but they have to fit the songs. I do hope this album is more layered than SBS which I think had lots of good songs, but just seemed a little lacking in production to my ears. I like it, but I don't love it. Even AGIB sounded like it had more "depth" of production, despite being essentially recorded live. I really like how the band functions right now and that exuberance comes across loud and clear at the live shows, but recording live does not nec
  20. Creepy place, that dude/bro clearly hasn't spent nuff time around here I actually do like Via Chicago, Impossible Germany, and Heavy Metal Drummer (even if it's my least favorite YHF track), on the other hand, Company in My Back is alright, but easily overshadowed by the equally quietly beautiful Muzzle of Bees. It should also be noted that I do like Son Volt, haven't listened to She & Him, and thought Bon Iver was good, but not the most stellar thing I've ever heard.
  21. Saw them at some outdoor festival a couple years ago, it was definitely a good time.
  22. I don't really understand why everyone is so concerned about the whole band "not recording together" bit. It's really not a big deal. I mean, AGIB and SBS were admittedly recorded all together in one room, but this kind of technique is basically how 95% of albums are recorded these days. Wilco practiced these songs plenty of times before setting them to record, and I'm sure the whole decision was just made for practicality purposes. It's not like the band doesn't get along, or they don't trust Nels to play in New Zealand or something. Crazy talk the whole bunch of it. I'm excited for th
