Tell 'em you're a scientologist.

Just bought 2 for Jason Isbell in New Haven on July 22nd!

I was going to see them tomorrow night in New Haven. The show's not cancelled - Julian's going to perform with Scott Colley on bass.

Yes.

I agree. I've never liked Hillary. If it comes down to it I'll vote for her, but only to keep these troglodyte republican candidates out. I hate most politicians, but I was really hoping that Elizabeth Warren would run. That's one I could get behind with actual enthusiasm. Unfortunately, I think the Democratic powers that be have already decided it's Hillary's turn. I kind of doubt we'll see a serious contender for the nomination, but I really hope I'm wrong.

Gregory Alan Isakov!

Dude, are you trying to get me called out!?

That is almost exactly what I was going to say. The cognitive dissonance is getting more and more pronounced as the GOP goes further off the deep end. I know some very nice (mostly much older) people who vote republican. The way they can seemingly completely ignore or just refuse to deal with their party's increasingly homophobic, racist, anti-science agenda is startling. I like to think they don't share those views, but the fact remains that by voting the way they do they're at least tacitly agreeing.

Fair enough.

And yet here you are.

I'm truly glad to know those things about you, Hixter. If I'd known some of them before. I would definitely have taken a different tone with you in our discussions. I tend to get worked up about civil rights issues, and if I wrongly insulted you I apologize. I still disagree with a lot of the things you say (hell, after your above post I find some of them even more confounding), but it's nice to have more perspective on who I'm talking to/arguing with.

I am absolutely being judgemental. The fact that you, by choice, believe the contents of a "holy" book does NOT entitle you or your religion to deny anyone anything. You yourself may not be homophobic, but your organization most certainly is, and it gives all its adherents the right to be bigots too. It's the 21st century - time to stop this nonsense and evolve. Gay people, on the other hand, do not choose their sexuality. Why should they not have every human right that you do?

A few points: Your religion didn't invent marriage. If you want to bully gay catholics, go ahead. It'll be up to them to choose religion over happiness & marriage. Since you mention the procreation aspect of a good catholic marriage I can only assume you only have sex for that purpose (as your god dictates) and therefore have many, many children - and follow all the other weird rules in your book. I've yet to have someone explain to me why they oppose gay marriage on any other than religious terms. You do realize that someone else's happiness will in no way diminish your own, right?

Ha! I read a bunch of them too. The best was the one that accused them of canceling due to poor tickets sales. Called it a publicity stunt. Hilarious. I honestly do feel bad for all the fans who are taking the hit on this, but I think it's definitely the right thing to do.

That's adorable.

But doesn't the fact that both sides of the the slavery issue were able to use the same religious texts to justify their position prove my point? And I think it's worth pointing out that said texts absolutely supported the slave owners position. Religion is not required to be moral. Morality preceded it. If you read the bible or any "holy" books there's very little morality at all. Just the opposite - slavery genocide, incest, etc. are not just suggested but positively endorsed. Anyway, I'm not trying to start a big religious debate or offend anyone. I'm only justifying my opposition to rel

Just to clarify, I was referring only to religion influencing or even being considered when it comes to writing laws or policies. There's simply no place for it due to its divisiveness (not to mention the whole detachment from reality thing). It leads to science and history illiterate people sitting on science & environmental boards and passing dangerous laws or rewriting school text books (looking at you, Texas). Belief should be a private affair. I don't think that's in any way an extremist view.

Weird! Sorry for your loss, though.

Bummer. Sadie's good with other dogs. She actually goes crazy if she's separated from our other dog (a Bassett Hound).
-
We've got one of those too. Black Lab/Shepard/something mix rescue. Sweetest dog in the world, but destructive as all hell. She's getting better (she's about 3 yrs old now), but I've wanted to strangle her more than once. I'm starting to think someone, somewhere is trying to breed the ultimate destructive dog.

Doesn't matter where the link comes from - she's right there on camera spouting her ignorance. She's not alone in her stupidity either. Plenty of Republican lawmakers and voters share her views. If you can find a democrat talking that kind of dangerous insanity I'll be surprised.
-
Obviously there's racism everywhere, but it's an undeniable fact that it is and always has been more ingrained in the south. The links you supplied have to go back about 100 years, and your list of active KKK chapters by state proves my point far more than yours. The south gave up segregation kicking and screaming in the 60's. My intent wasn't to get into a north/south debate, I mentioned the south only because that was where those signs persisted the longest, and because if they could they'd have them up again real quick.

Yes, we all remember the rash of lynchings and cross burnings across New England and California. And the great civil rights marches on Manhattan and Los Angeles...
