Spinning Kicking Television, packing the bags, on the eve of Solid Sound. When was it they announced this, February 2012? Been a long time coming, almost there. Patience.

So, what's Mr. Tweedy's leanings? I assume he would root for the Chicago team, but is he a hockey fan? Will there be any Bruins-Blackhawks banter coming from the stage Saturday night? I'm used to Trey being a Flyer's fan, but I draw a complete blank on whether Jeff cares.

I told my wife the other day that Wilco at Solid Sound is just about the only thing I would miss the B's game for!
-
Good move. I don't have camera rain sleeves, but I'm bringing my poncho. And I hope the tapers are bringing their little umbrellas to cover the mikes.
-
I vote for Accuweather then!

I'm seeing only Sunday, 50% chance. http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=zmw:01247.1.99999

acoustic Hot Tuna. Seeing Jack and Jorma is like seeing a couple of old friends.

Not that any additional proof was necessary, but the May '77 box again evidences that May 1977 was a truly special era for the Dead. Firing on all cylinders. The audio quality is spectacular. Getting to listen to this St. Louis show I was at. I have a good memory of where I was sitting, who I was with, but not not much for the show itself. Man, this show smokes! I've now forgotten how much I paid for this, so now I'm just glad to have it
-
Going tonight, what time have they been starting?
-
Wasn't going to, but nothing else on tap for tonight so I just pulled a ticket for the Stones in Boston.

Got my May '77 box, looking forward to this weekend. First up will be the St. Louis show I was at.

It's been a really crappy June in MA, and unfortunately the long range forecast model doesn't show much in the way of improvement. Cross your fingers everybody! http://www.boston.com/news/weather/weather_wisdom/2013/06/wet_pattern_to_continue.html

Wilco #40 in RS Top 40 stoner albums
worldrecordplayer replied to choo-choo-charlie's topic in Just A Fan
That's a big miss. The very essence of a mellow pot haze. -
Agree with everything, and feel compelled to echo what a FANTASTIC sounding record Reckoning is. I've been listening to my original vinyl over the last few weeks, and the sound is simply stunning. And I'll add, ever since I bought the MOFI vinyl of Wake of the Flood, side 2 of Wake has become my favorite side of any Dead studio album. Also stunning in its recording and sound, and the sequence of Here Comes Sunshine, Eyes and Weather Report is as good as anything.

Wilco #40 in RS Top 40 stoner albums

Live/Dead at #7. I only looked at the top 10, did the first Cowboy Junkies album make the list? -
Thanks for the responses. I've never found them to be boring live, but the latest release is boring to me.
-
I don't take the RS lists too seriously. I mostly use them as reminders of music that I haven't listened to in a while which prompts me to go listen. So whether something is listed at 40 or 25 or 10, I try not to get too worked up about. I thought this list was kind of fun, but I saw it late last night and only made it through the top 10. Live/Dead at #7 was relevant to the discussion here about the merits of that album as an introduction to the Dead. And I'm firmly in the camp that The Eleven totally cooks. One of the best tunes that Phil and Friends/Furthur has brought back.

Live/Dead checks in at number 7 on Rolling Stones' 40 Greatest Stoner Albums. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/the-40-greatest-stoner-albums-20130607/grateful-dead-live-dead-19691231

How were they? I have a ticket for Thursday, but am awfully busy at work and watching the Bruins (!) and tired, thinking about just blowing it off. Unless you have strong words of encouragement to get me motivated.

Can't go wrong with any of those.

Found my Dupree's, Issue No. 23. Not the cover, but Dwork's long piece "The Most Important GD Concert Of All Time." Pretty much the same piece as is in the Compendium. It is over the top, but he's got it totally right!
-
I will have to pull the Compendium off the shelf. I have a memory that back in the day Duprees Diamond News did an entire issue, or at least a very long form cover story, about this show. I have it saved, will dig that out and give it a read also.
