  1. Wondering about a Solid Sound documentary. There were definitely professional video set ups at each performance stage this year. That could be the next Wilco sighting.
  2. Anyhow, that was my first show at the Bushnell. I've been in Boston for 32 years, never even heard of it. What a beautiful room and great acoustics. This was the night after the benefit show in the Hunter Center at MassMoca, where i thought the sound was not so good.
  3. I like the Royale as a room for music, big space, lots of bars, has an upstairs too. Used to be called something else in the '80's, the Roxy maybe, I remember an intense Gang of Four show there. I've seen a few shows there over the last couple of years, Karl Denson and Anders doing Sticky Fingers, Heartless Bastards, etc., and the room has never been more than half filled. Then I see photos of the DJ shows they put on there, and the place always looks like its packed to the rafters. Wilco didn't sell out the Bushnell during the summer 2012? I was at that show, looked filled to me.
  4. Crap, missed it. Really like that venue also, good room for music.
  5. Me too, anything from '72-73, my favorite period. Loving SSDD. I've always had the audio and movie, nice to get improved versions of both irregardless of the cost.
  6. I got the May '77 box, and the SSDD box as well. I try to forget how much I spent on the May box, so thanks for reminding me Main reason I bought it was because I was at the St. Louis show, and I never had a good copy of that one. I usually feel compelled to buy any show I was at, though I don't always get around to it. Dollars aside, the May '77 box is fantastic. For starters, it's May '77, so enough said right there. The quality of the audio is superb. And the box itself and booklet are well done. I'm glad I have it.
  7. A very good read. This is how I spend my Saturday night with the brand new dvd/cd box set. I had a blast! This to me is the Dead at their peak. Watching the Dead in the blazing sun in front of all those Oregon/west coast 1972 hippies, it’s magic. I knew from his FB post that Renaldo went to the theatrical release night, which should have told me how much he was into the Dead’s music, but this leaves no doubt.
  8. Lee Ranaldo on Sunshine Daydream: http://thetalkhouse.com/features/view/lee-ranaldo-the-grateful-deads-long-lost-concert-documentary-sunshine-daydr
  9. This reminds me that I want to read this. May look to see if its available for download on the iPad, but does the physical book have photos? If so, I would want a physical copy.
  10. I have to say re: the Veneto show that Bobby's playing is sublime.
  11. The sound mix is fantastic. My wife is out of town, so I occupied myself tonight by watching the entire movie and the bonus piece, all at concert level volume. I've had bootleg copies of SSDD for years, VHS, DVD, but this is masterful. What a great night.
  12. Got my box today, the Dwork piece is a short 2 page essay, haven't read it but it appears to be something new from his lengthy essay in the Taper's Compendium and Duprees. Can't wait to get these discs spinning.
  13. Great listing off the top of your head! I've got some listening to do.
  14. Ditto to all that. I've never made it to Chicago for a Wilco show or one of the Tweedy solo benefit shows, which I very much want to do, but being in MA and able to easily drive to all three SS's has not been a bad tradeoff.
  15. A stream of the Elvis Costello and Roots show from Brooklyn Bowl the other night, here: http://www.wfuv.org/audio/archives/fuv-live/elvis-costello-and-roots-live-brooklyn-bowl-2013
  16. Is this what you're referring to, the Radiolab tour coming to Boston? I didn't see On Fillmore at SS, don't know much about this, but Glenn being my favorite drummer I'll show up. http://www.radiolab.org/live/ Our new live tour is coming to a city near you this fall!Cataclysmic destruction. Surprising survival. In this new live stage performance, Radiolab turns its gaze to the topic of endings, both blazingly fast and agonizingly slow. With their signature blend of storytelling, science, and music, hosts Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich romp through hundreds of millions of years of history
  17. The Dwork essay in the Taper's Compendium was derived from his very long piece in Dupree's Diamond News, they had previously published a big article on this show, the "best GD show ever" or something like that. I still have it in my collection. My SSDD is due to arrive today. My wife going away to her h.s. reunion this weekend, I know what I'll be doing Saturday night.
  18. I've seen some outstanding Furthur shows. I missed them this summer in Boston as I was on vacation (I think the same for last summer too). Would prefer to see them than not, so hope it's only a hiatus and not the end. I love Joe Russo's drumming (would love to see him take Joe Russo's Almost Dead on the road, as a double bill with Bustle!), and John's playing too. I also don't get the "fake Jerry" pejorative, Other than Box, there's nothing I would rather hear Phil sing than John. Also seen many amazing Phil and Friends shows, so hope he takes that on the road and doesn't just do residenc
  19. Nice! All the best with all that. Staying in theme, this past spring I had to have a cardiac catheterization procedure. I was more than a little uptight (turns out to be a very easy procedure) as I entered the procedure room. Between patients one of the techs was playing opera on Pandora on his phone. I *hate*opera, but said something nondescript about having music on. The nurse asked if I wanted to listen to anything in particular, I said Wilco so she set up Wilco station on Pandora and I rocked to Wilco while they noodled around inside my chest. Really helped me get through that!
