Definitely no Paul Simon for me. Especially not with MMJ at same time. Today so far. Jonathan Boogie Long in the Blues Tent. Then today's big surprise set was Wayne Toups, a killer Louisiana Cajun band with accordion lead and 3 excellent guitar players.

At JazzFest. Wet day yesterday. A guitar day. Sonny Landreth, followed by Gary Clark, Jr., then Tedeschi Trucks Band with Jimmie Vaughn and Billy Gibbons. Today will include The Revivalists, acoustic Los Lobos and My Morning Jacket. Tonight, Lobos in a club.

Apologies if this was already posted here, but this week's SNL all Prince tribute show was something to see. Here's a link to stream the full show. http://www.relix.com/blogs/detail/watch_the_emotional_prince_tribute_episode_of_saturday_night_live

Appears to be true, Prince died. Oh no.

I should be reporting that I'm seeing The New Mastersounds tonight. But I'm getting under the weather and not up for a night out on my feet, so this will not be a Live! Tonight! for me. Bummed, would have been first time seeing them.

What's the deal with Wilco (The Album)?
worldrecordplayer replied to WilcoTheologian's topic in Just A Fan
I guess I should be embarrassed to admit I've always really liked You Never Know. Go ahead, heap boatloads of scorn and ridicule on my head, I'll have to take it. -

They were a multi-headed monster. The nights the magic happened they were all "on" and in sync with each other. It wasn't just any one of them. Why that happened some nights and not others is the mystery of live performances.

Tweedy — 30 March 2016, Tokyo, Japan (Liquidroom)

There's a short capture vid posted on FB of O'Rourke playing with them on Laminated Cat. I can't figure out how to capture that, but it's there in the Wilco fan group if anyone wants to see it with their own eyes and ears. -
That Houston Hofheinz Pavilion show is a monster. Should definitely be listened to if you haven't heard it.

Listening to Today in GD History, 3-29-85 Nassau. Middle of the 6 years I was off the bus. Never knew they did Baby What You Want Me To Do. I always knew that as a Hot Tuna sing on Yellow Fever. Brent does a good job with it.

Going back to the previous discussion about late era new tunes, Today on This Day in GD History on Sirius they were playing second set from Albany 3-28-1993. I was at this show, I usually like listening to shows I saw live. Except here, after Ship of Fools, they go into Wave to the Wind, and I had to turn it off in less than a minute. Can't bear to listen to them play that song. I don't remember much about this night, but I do remember the previous night having many great moments. The Days Between stands out in my memory bank, I still feel the chills I got hearing that song that night.

Nice to see Mr. Tinnitus Photography's photo showing up in a tweet from Wilco today. Nice shot Tim. https://twitter.com/Wilco/status/713397313763479552

Being a big Courtney Barnett fan, and given that New Speedway Boogie is among my favorite Dead tunes, I've listened to that track several times. My take is that Courtney makes that song her own, it is not by any means a copycat rendition. Well let's cure that. Give it a listen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72OLupNWNho Warms my heart

My then 24 year old son turned me on to her when he got his hands on a pre-release leaked copy of Sometimes I Sit and Think...He had been listening to her for a while already and claims he had already played Avant Gardner for me, but I must not have been focused. I love it when the wheel turns round.

From the soon to be released Day of the Dead tribute album, they released the full track of Courtney's performance of New Speedway Boogie. Giving one of my favorite GD tunes the Courtney Barnett treatment, sounds great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdaAQlmExmI

Couldn't make it to House of Blues for Lake Street Dive tonight, but I have friends coming over to watch the free webcast on Yahoo Music. I saw Rachel Price sing at Lockn' last year, but I've never seen LSD (a very funny thing for me to say)

Bill Walton just released a memoir, "Back from the Dead." http://liveforlivemusic.com/news/bill-walton-has-released-a-memoir-titled-back-from-the-dead/

Hope you had as good a time last night as I did on Monday. I've seen Lu many times. I went into Monday's show less psyched than at any previous show, mostly because I wasn't familiar with the new album and the few tracks I heard seemed too slow and morose. Another instance of low expectations leading to great reward. As this reviewer wrote: "It was spectacular." http://www.bostonherald.com/entertainment/music/guestlisted/2016/03/last_best_show_lucinda_williams_at_the_paradise

Had some home alone time today, took the opportunity to play D3 of Dave's Picks 17, Fresno, July 1974, the first official Wall of Sound show, at concert level volume. I've listened to this show many times over the years, but I never realized how tight and rockin the US Blues is. The entire show is worthy no doubt, today for the first time US Blues jumps out and slapped me in my face and stuck me in the gut. I can't help but repeat myself about these GD HDCD releases, they sound amazing.
