  1. Wilco has been hitting the stage exactly 1 hour from the announced show time. At least that was the case for the shows through the Orpheum run. I don't know what happened in New Haven.
  2. I lived through that transition, and it took me years to attune my ears to Brent's singing and playing. I eventually got it and can now listen back to the '87-spring '90 period and more appreciate Brent's contributions. That being said, I was at the famous Cape Cod show in October '79, which is a definite highlight show. But at the time, I was not very accepting of Brent at all. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. If "Bob" is the guy who taped and posted both Orpheum shows, he was not at the Portland show. Damn him! I saw a pretty substantial rig set up in front of the board, so I was expecting a recording to circulate.
  4. Taper Bob100 also put this show up on Dime. Someone posted the following comment, I thought you may be interested to read: "Interestingly, I spoke briefly with Glenn Kotche after the show, who said that the band was very pleased with Friday, which sometimes means a letdown the next night. He was glad to hear that everyone had been so floored with the second performance."
  5. Here's a link to the New Haven recording. My friend who knows these things (and posted links to his recordings of both Orpheum shows) says this was made with excellent equipment from the sweet spot. Haven't listened yet, but this should be a good recording. http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=584761
  6. Excellent thread Mr. Roadhse. I was at the same 3 shows and couldn't agree more with everything you wrote. I remember when I got my Portland ticket wondering if the winter weather would interfere with this road trip. Weather could not have been more perfect for a very easy drive to Portland for my first show at the State. Really liked the venue, and so wish the Orpheum owners would take a page from the State and Cap (and Beacon) and invest some money in that venue. It's such a great sounding room, but it is old and crappy looking and could benefit from the lifting of the front orch sea
  7. Great shots and write up Tim! I particularly like this line about Spiders: "Minimal Krautrock rhythms set the table, an insistent throb that exploded into a beautifully bombastic riff that is still reverberating somewhere in the recesses of Downtown Crossing." So true.
  8. Boston Globe review of the Friday show http://www.bostonglobe.com/arts/music/2016/01/31/wilco-dazzles-both-rocking-and-quiet-moments/YtMxQjMe0ZWyoFsAr0yzWL/story.html
  9. By the time they got to I Got You, the center balcony was up and dancing
  10. I was Row C in the left center mezz for night 2, and nobody stood except for a couple who were up and dancing a few seats down from my wife. What a mess that turned into. People behind them were yelling and screaming at them the entire show, until security escorted the dancers out. The people behind them yelling and causing all the commotion should have been thrown out IMHO. My view, if you want to dance at a rock show, too bad on the folks behind. It's a freaking rock show, you should expect folks to be up on their feet. We weren't at Symphony Hall. Funny thing was at some point deep in
  11. Sounds excellent Bob. I just listened to Spiders. People on this site probably care. Deeply. Bob can't change it, but we can all edit our downloads.
  12. I was banging the ballot box for each of the three shows I saw: I Must Be High, She's A Jar, and Summer Teeth. I went 0 for 3. This is a SW and greatest hits tour. Nothing played last night wasn't played at one of the previous two shows. No deep cuts at all. I am not complaining, last night was a top tier show in every way. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. Tim, your Spiders video on Instagram perfectly captures the song as it went down last night. I shared (i.e., stole) it on FB, with credits. Just too perfect. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. One set list detail: they skipped a verse in Taste the Ceiling. The part that starts "Why do our disasters creep so slowly into view." My favorite line in the song. Somehow they went straight into the bridge or chorus or whatever you would call it. Jeff's bead snapped back momentarily when he realized it, and they never went back to it. EDIT: I listened to the recording today, what I posted is totally wrong. They did indeed sing that line. Don't know where I was.
  15. Add Key To My Heart after Casino Queen, I think. Somewhere in the hootenanny set. Jeff audible to one of the guitar techs as he was bringing out a different guitar. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. Sorry we let you down bbop. I'm so spoiled, I always assume you are there and will run the show topic. Knew you weren't there Friday, I couldn't imagine you were not going last night. I will be able to put together the setlist, I think. I hope.
  17. You are the only one I know of who thinks that way. It's a great rocker and tongue in cheek commentary on club rock. Maybe it holds a special place in my heart as when I went to college in St. Louis I worked at a restaurant on the landing and would go here music in those clubs all the time. Mississippi Nights and Muddy Waters place are the two I recall.
  18. Holy crap, what a show tonight boys and girls. From the very first moments, what a noticeable difference. The sound was awesome, maybe just my location, going from 9th row center to 3rd row center mezz and really pickIng up the pa. Did anyone else think the sound was noticeably better? Differences from night 1, tonight we got Siders as noted. The placement of that set the house on fire for the rest of show. You Are My Face tonight, and the rocker closer trio. Also Take Back and Just Zthat Simple, with a bring down the house roar for John. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. I can't get a topic opened on my iPad, but my god, Wilco tonight! Wowza. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  20. My friends who were in ROw J of the balcony said the sound was excellent. And they were happy to be sitting, and had no one standing in front of them.
