  1. Yep. Although I just now got through my first listen of the whole thing, so things are likely to move around some for me. But these picks are nothing new--Side With the Seeds was easily my favorite of the live versions of the new songs and I've been addicted to You Are My Face since it leaked last week.
  2. I'd say both statements are incorrect. Ghost is kind of a slow-burn--lots of open spaces, some patches of noise. Not really the catchiest, most fun record on Earth, which is why some casual fans might think it "sucks", but by no means does it. KTV is pretty good, and a nice addition for a fan, but I'd go with the studio albums first and then check out the live album later.
  3. I thought YHF was the album where you were supposed to appreciate the holes.
  4. I find myself in complete agreement with this assessment...which makes absolutely no sense since I've only heard the three tracks that leaked last week. Nevermind me, I'm just killing time until I can go home and hear the rest of this!
  5. Hey, guys. I was away at a wedding this weekend and haven't checked VC since Friday. Did I miss anything?
  6. Where's the fun in that? It soooo much cooler to keep scanning blogs and refreshing Oink every five seconds.
  7. I might have to check out the archive.org stuff. I was actually just listening to the "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" comp. Contrary to conventional wisdom, I really think "Best Of" type comps are a horrible, horrible way to try to get a sense of an artist--particularly when they are multi-disc affairs it just gets overwhelming. I do like me some Zevon, but I never seem to make it more than 6 or 7 songs deep into this huge collection before I start zoning out.
  8. Indeed. Any spare booze you want to get rid of can be dropped off at my house where it will be, um, properly disposed of.
  9. 4.5 stars, wasn't it? Maybe just 4. But I remember the long, glowing review...which I remember thinking was pretty cool for a band that (at the time) nobody I knew seemed to have heard of but me. So that was pretty awesome. (even if it was just RS)
  10. I made myself stop listening to them. I just listened to them 6 times in a row on repeat (while unpacking boxes at my new house). Had to stop before overkill set in. Now I need 3 more songs to play for a while!
  11. I don't remember this. I don't know if it was a scoff so much as just indifference. Wilco was far from "trendy" until all the YHF hoopla, for better or for worse. Its true that each album brings change (which is good)--and with that inevitably comes controversy among some fans. Everybody has their favorites, but I dunno that I'd call them a controversial band, really.
  12. Okay, finally got my first listen to these after a veeeery long day at work.(well, its on repeat, so I guess I'm on my 3rd or 4th listen by now) And I love em. Either Way is the only one I'm a little iffy about so far. Pretty (and I loved the live versions I've heard) but I'm still not sure about it as an opener. The solo and the "maybe the sun will shiiiiiiiiiine today" late in the song are huge redeeming factors, so I guess I dig it. You Are My Face is so much better than I ever dreamed it would be! These are some of my favorite Tweedy lyrics in a while. Huge thumbs up on that one.
  13. Baltimore 6 Florida 8 And so it begins (again)...
  14. I don't have these. Can somebody PM these pants to me? Argh. I've been biding my time at work all day, waiting to go home and download these. I still have to stop at the grocery store on the way home, so that will just prolong the delicious agony of it all. For fun, I've been scanning various blogs as responses to these songs start to roll in. Let the division begin! (who would have thought a pump-organ could be as divisive as 10 minutes of krautrock and/or feedbacky drone?) I'm pretty pumped for this record. The sound seems to match my mood lately (Wilco has been eerily good at tha
  15. Nice one. I don't get this particular scandal. Slow news week, I guess. I'm just finding it difficult to be shocked, outraged, or even slightly interested in this. Seriously. Lurid gossip about Tommy Lasorda? Tommy Lasorda! How is that supposed to sell books??
  16. When was it cool? I used to get lots of puzzled looks from friends in college when I first got into UT/SV/Wilco. I'd imagine that "southern pop" is probably similar to "alt-country" except that it might be ok to smile once in a while. As for Trace, I dunno if its a "masterpiece"--it has that feel to it, even tho there are a few songs I never cared for much--but I think its overall the best thing he's done post-UT (tho I still prefer those albums).
  17. City of Boston: "Are you talking to me?" Miscellaneous non-threatening device: "HELP ME!!!!!!"
  18. Argh! Last thing I did before leaving the house this morning was check Oink. Nothing there, so I went on my merry way. Now I get to work, check out VC and find out that I missed out on the 3-song secret-ninja mini-leak! It will be a long day for me until I can get home and download these.
  19. Might as well just list it this way: Duane Allman 1946-1971
