I'd never listen to Deadco (i.e., the sans garcians) on my own. But, seeing them live was a pretty fun thing to do. The crowd, the scene, the circus, etc. was a blast. The music was fun too but I'd often catch myself inserting Jerry leads / sounds / feeling in my head while listening to solos... For me, Deadco is a totally different scene than the late 80s when I saw my plethora of shows. It just seems safer now - like it is department store dead. Maybe it is me - i'm older and more established and secure with myself. Back in 87, 88, 89 and 90 seeing the Dead meant that I was skipping out on

I completely agree. I saw the Wrigley shows this past summer on a friday / saturday (petty on thursday). The tempo did seem the same...and I would never listen to the deadco for fun. That urge is always satisfied by Jerry. Listening to 23 June 1974 right now...Beyond the obvious Dark Star > Spanish > US Blues jam...the WRS>China Doll and spacey jam > Ship Fools is exceptional. The band was very very very loose during that June 1974 tour...

I always thought the only real highlight of 15 July 1989 was the Peggy and Bird Song...but alas I was wrong - the Foolish Victim Crazy Truckin Smokestack is really impressive (but for the amazing Weir flub during Crazy).

Agreed. It really is interesting how different 6.18 and 6.20 are. 6.18 is definitely more expansive and explorative, while 6.20 is more tight and speed based. Totally different mindsets. Amazing how the band could be such different bands show to show - night to night. Also, neither night performed PITB.

Regarding Lazy Lightning Supplication, I do like the songs individually and in combination. But moreso, I like great versions of songs. For example, I generally am not a big Mexicali Blues fan but I'll always be happy to hear the 19 October 1974 version, or Blow Away (not a big fan) but am always up for the 07 July 1989 version. 18 July 1976 Lazy Supp is ephemeral....

I guess I technically agree, but when seeing a post jerry lineup live (and hearing the band mimic the jerry conceived solos) it is nearly impossible not to compare. If they were reformulating the music (the way the Grateful Dead did with most of their covers) it would be easier to avoid comparison. But, alas, the Dead / Co. is far from reformulation. Ideed, quite the contrary, it appears to me that their intent is to perform as the Grateful Dead. Which, again, is fine with me. I enjoyed the music and had a blast and I'd go again. I was just trying to provide commentary on what I heard. Hat

It is like he isn't (or doesn't have the ability) to listen to the band. Jerry had the uncanny ability to make the music sound like one instrument instead of Jerry's solo and the grateful dead behind him. Mayer certainly is not at that ability.

So I attended the D/Co Wrigley Field shows this past Friday and Saturday eves... I've never really liked any of the "sans garcians" arrangements. I enjoyed "fare the well" because I'd never heard Trey play before and I just locked onto what he was doing (e.g., I'll never forget the Estimated into a monster jam that slowly and beautifully melted into....Built to Last). Wrigley Field is a very cool venue especially when it isn't loaded with rabid Cubs fans. Indeed, the scene was profoundly friendly from a fan perspective (not surprising) but also from a security perspective. There was __lo
