  1. Interesting...the Brent Mydland wiki page does not reference that he was married or anything personal like that. Re Blow Away - I just remember him singnig during the "rap" portion, "you fxxxxxx bxxxch..." etc etc etc, and then pleading with crowd raise your fist in the air. Obviously he was working some demons out, but I just didn't feel motivated to raise my fist in the air... Early 80s brent was his best in my opinion...1979 Spring tour really underrated and the Spring / Summer 1980 stuff is really amazing... Starting in 1985 and 86 he had a particular tone that sounded more "poppy" a
  2. Blow Away was interesting. The Jerry stuff was pretty good, but especially in 1989/90 Brent's diatribe against his wife was wincingly bad...
  3. I think there was some anger towards Vince about his drug use with Jerry.
  4. Good question. The original tapes I had back in the 80s listed: Eyes of the World > Stronger Than Dirt > Song (e.g., China Doll). It certainly is not King Solomon's Marbles... I still within my head refer to it as "Stronger Than Dirt." I think it is ok...
  5. Lesh took a "lead" after the main part of Eyes of the World 73-74 and would trade off leads with Jerry...(see, e.g., the 19 October 1974 version shown during the Grateful Dead movie).
  6. Just getting into this band. I'm really impressed. Monomania and Fading Frontier are excellent albums... Missed seeing them live here in Madison last month...Ugh...
  7. Yup - At the end of the Eyes jam right before China Doll, Jerry most definitely runs through numerous "slipknot" cyclings...Check it out here (starting at 19:01 through 20:30)... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FMjirrDm_M
  8. D17 is the 19 july 1974 show right? I used to have the audience tape of the first set. I really liked it better than the sbd. I actually have always advocated that the Bertha Deal BIODTL and Scarlet are legendary versions. The Bertha solo and Deal solos are just nailed exceptioanlly by jerry. The keith solo during biodtl is amazing. And the scarlet is a masterpiece. Jerry's soloing is really amazing along with keith dropping cool llttlle sounds... I actually alwasy liked the first set better than the second... summer 1974 was interesting. I thought some of the extended WRS jams just drag
  9. Just saw Tommy Stinson band in madison, wisconsin...It was pretty good...
  10. No Cities to Love is fantastic...
  11. one of the best second sets ___ever___ was 18 July 1976 Orpheum....Simply a masterpiece.... https://archive.org/details/gd1976-07-18.pre-fm.kbfh.berger.107832.flac16 Set 2: Might As Well ; Samson And Delilah ; Candyman ; Lazy Lightnin' > Supplication > Let It Grow > Drums > Let It Grow > Jam > Wharf Rat > Space Jam > Drums > The Other One > Saint Stephen > Not Fade Away > Saint Stephen > The Wheel > The Other One > Stella Blue ; Sugar Magnolia
  12. Portland Maine 13 May 1979 is a very strong show...Excellent Scarfire...

  14. My wife and I both got 4 tix together... We only need 4... so I have 4 extras for the Jeff solo show in Sheboygan Wisconsin Friday 29 April 2016: $58.50 | Row M, Seat 109 $58.50 | Row M, Seat 110 $58.50 | Row M, Seat 111 $58.50 | Row M, Seat 112 PM me if interested in 2 or 4...
  15. Agreed as well...I also think January through September of 1971 had some great moments, but wow, some horribly boring and redundant moments as well. 1970 also suffered from Lesh's Donna-esque harmonies...
  16. The 10.26 first set is really strong - one of the best of the year imho. I really like the 10.26 star but will always find the 10.16 star pitb ujb pitb to be the best dark star since 1979...Fall 89 really was a special tour...especially with the hampton shows...
  17. The 9/7/73 eyes is great....I really like Stella blue on that show too (one of my favorites) out Let it Grow...The ending to Stella is sublime...
  18. This video really brought back memories...good bad perplexed etc....I didn't see them past 93, but the lot scene in 94 seems pretty similar... Overall it brought on a nostalgia or yearning to see this...really interesting....maybe a yearning for my youth? for different times? for jerry being alive? who knows.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCUP6bP17fg
  19. More on this tour as a whole soon, but the Good Lovin' from 11 April 1972 may be the finest Good Lovin' i've ever heard...
  20. I just bought that sweater! Yes - I finally have an awesome holiday sweater!!!
