  1. Wow...cool...I know the second set gets most attention, but the first set is really remarkable. The Bertha, Deal and BIODTL are simply fantastic. But, the highlight of the whole show in my opinion (including the second set) is the Scarlet Begonias. Check it out....If possible, the audience is not the best quality, but it gives a better feel. I have always thought the sbd was a bit "flat" sounding...not crisp...
  2. Just watched the PITB from the youtube link above...It really seemed that Weir wasn't directing the space which is great to see...Mayer directed the direction and intensity...He is a great guitar player - a bit redundant maybe with his licks. Still - agreed that he is a great fit and will only get better - should be a great tour. Are they heading anywhere near Madison Wisconsin?
  3. I agree about letting it go. I am a very lucky person considering how many people have decided to give me second / third / fourth etc chances in my life...
  4. I remember those days. I remember being at the Mecca in April 1989 and seeing the cops bust a jaywalker - harshly. They took him down. The guy was obviously altered (sky was yellow, sun was blue) and the police were complete jerks - roughed him up a bit. Scary thing was that i jaywalked 20 seconds before that...
  5. Yup...Sky blue sky tour...I mainly like the 2001-2004 era the best, but 2007 pretty awesome as well...
  6. No...I listened via the archive to the amazing matrixes mainly...Then wtih grateful grabber I pull the mp3s of the exceptional versions for my master Garcia et al Mix...
  7. The He's Gone Caution Other One was one of the first jams that took my breath away...My only copy of this show up until about 1995ish was teh Rolfe audience...It was and will always be spectacular...
  8. will relisten to the 22 March 1990 Scarfire... Here were my notes on recent listen: Scarlet Begonias – tight song but in song jam while slightly flavored lacked intensity; transition to fire was well done by jerry with a nice pace and nice meandering –lacked a bit in intensity – but through this point it clearly was the highlight of the show; B+ Fire – nice tension weeved in the first soloing by Jerry; a lot of flavor too – well done first solo; second solo featured sprinting and tension mounting by Jerry; reached some very nice spots that gained nicely; well done – very extended too; fin
  9. Blues for Allah is a masterpiece... My favorite studio album (kind of studio) is Anthem of the Sun...
  10. Sebastian Joes for ice cream (at Franklin and Lake; if i remember correctly; uptown)... The Loring was always a cool bar (its been 14 years...wow) Drive 6 hours north and visit the crown jewel of the entire midwest - the Boundary Waters....
  11. Finishing up listening to the spring tour of 1990 again (March 14, 1990 to April 3, 1990; I saw none of these shows in person). Two things stand out - 1) The band was surprisingly tight and consistent compared to 1989; and 2) that consistency generally led to above average shows but no real exceptional shows from note one of set one through the last note of the encore. Here were the exceptional versions I added to my master mix: March 14, 1990: Let it Grow; Playin > UJB > Playin March 16, 1990: Bird Song March 19, 1990: Box, Foolish Heart > Playin > Eyes March 24, 1990: Loser
  12. Right..."slipknot" isn't quite the right name. One of the first tapes I ever traded for (in early 1987) was 6.18.1974...It recited: (Side A) Eyes of the Word > Stronger Than Dirt > China Doll Weather Report Suite > Let it Grow > (Side The Other One > Blues for Allah > Blues Jam > Stella Blue Mourning Dew Point being, my initial introduction to the post Eyes 1973 and 1974 jam was called "Stronger Than Dirt." so I have always sentimentally referred to it as "Stronger Than Dirt." I always thought it would have been awesome (especially gustatorily altered...) to have
  13. Sort of in 1976. They never actually did the slipknot jam but the lesh / jerry tradeoff thing was there...
  14. I've always liked Push comes to shove as well..there - i admitted it...
  15. Just finished listening to the whole 1972 March 22 to 28 run of Academy of Music shows in New York. Overall pretty amazing stuff... * 03/22 (no donna) was very average with no much spark until the PITB, and the Sugar Mag into Caution into UJB... * 03/23 (no donna) was ephemeral...first set was exceptional the whole way through...oddly enough the second set was equally impressive except for the dark star which was just above average...((((my notes on the dark star: Dark Star – some nice moments before first verse but nothing truly dazzling; post verse a long drift – open ended; went inot
  16. Heard a fantastic Victim into Dark Star today...really impressive...28 December 1989...really wanted to go to those shows but alas...I could not attend...
  17. I liked a couple versions of Built To Last - my favorite was 7.17.1989 (alpine)...after that version they started screwing too much with the midi (jerry's timing with the midi seemed off quite a bit) and Lesh's harmony added too much in my opinion (and he was frequently out of tune)...good song but they never settled on a finished version...
  18. I saw the last show in Chicago for the Fare Thee Well mini-tour. When people ask what I thought of it I tell them 1) the songs were loaded with chord flubs and timing flubs; 2) the vocals were at times harsh; 3) the transitions were consistently flubbed; 4) the song choice was peculiar (e.g., Estimated into deep jam that went into built to last?); but 5) Trey was amazing and 6) the crowd was amazing. For me, Trey was the saving grace. It was a real treat to hear another great musician take the jerry leads and explorations and put a unique twist on them...that was a great ending to this band.
  19. I have always loved 04 August 1976...the first set really is about as flawless as it can be - each song is exceptional. Second set starts with a really impressive Help Slip Frank Dancin Wheel Sampson...phew...it gets pretty spaced out after that, but ends well... ...and, there is a great full show video (really well filmed - numerous cameras)...worth checking out... the filming is really jerry focused - almost all of his solos are shown... also it is interesting to see the interplay between the band inbetween the songs... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1yLgdzAbXQ
  20. 9.17.1982....second set is breathtaking... 10.10.1982 very impressive...
  21. Listening to dixpix5 - 26 december 1979...Not bad but not as great as I remembered it... Alabama, promised, UJB, Estimated, Caution, Other One were exceptional... Rest pretty average...
  22. This is always pleasant to watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWQFZ7Lx-rg
  23. So many break chances that he didn't convert...Oh well... Considering all of the break chances, Federer should have at least made it to a 5th set...
