  1. I went to school at SIU Carbondale so we made regular pilgramiges to St. Louis, Nashville, Memphis, and any college town Tupelo would play at. Saw a couple of shows after AM, and wasn't really into the AM vibe. I moved to New York, and talked 5 friends into going to the April 20, 1999 show. Only reason I remember the date was that it was 4 20. We got backstage because one of the roommates had a girlfriend in the marketing group that dealt with Irving Plaza. Another friend of ours got punched in the jaw by Ken Coomer because some dolt that looked like Joe Dirt made a racist remark at Coomer
  2. This is a great list. Was slightly creeped out by Clean Teeth (then when I saw if any I thought fine, even my idols deserve some slack) I think everyone believes they are altruistic at heart, a personal list like this proves that he was in practice. Even the ones like Save Extra dough is good. I noticed Love Arlo wasn't on here though.
  3. I could say that My Morning Jacket at number 3 is very questionable, but these lists are written with the intent of creating a buzz. First, any Tom Waits album is guaranteed a slot. I love Tom Waits, but not every album is legendary. Then I stumbled on to the list of the 11 best Christmas Ales and was stunned that Westmalle Christmas was nowhere to be found. If Adele puts out a Christmas Ale next year she will most definitely be top 20 on two charts.
  4. Hate all you want. I will either be in my seat cutting, no, evicerating, a rug when the last minute 20 of Art of Almost comes on, and I will be damned if I sit for I might. These are two songs that must be addressed. Period. I must display my version of the Whole Love. It is my birthright.
  5. Heard a rumor the alt version of Art of Almost is working its way around the internet. Anyone hear this? Supposed to be completely different, and was rumored to be the original genesis of the song until the version on TWL was reworked. I refuse to look, as I know some day a boxed set of authorized work will come out and everytime I hear Summerteeth I hear the bootleg version and it throws me off.
  6. Civic Opera in Chicago may be just as weird, if not more so. HAve seen Aida, Paglacci, and a high school performance of the Nutcracker there but Wilco would never have crossed my mind as a potential occupant. Hope it is a great show.
  7. Are there multiple Whole Love Vinyl versions out? I put the original I got from Kung Fu away to never be touched, bought a second original album, but had a party Friday night. After spinning my playable version of Whole Love Album 1 is missing. Scum. I need a new vinyl of the original release but searching on line I think there are at least 2 versions. I saw a single album import and one I think may be what I am looking for. Anyone buy from anyone but Kung Fu? By the by, just making sure I get the 14 minute version of One Sunday Morning. Mesmerizing, it is.
  8. And to be clear, Rolling Stone lost credibility when Hunter Thompson left. Any article from a publication that hasn't been relevant for more than a quarter century is not one I will bother to look up the criteria for one of their best of lists. Thought their 100 greatest Beatle songs special edition, that helped to pay hush money to Jann Wenners ex wife to keep quiet about his affinity for male suitors, stands as a bellewhether re: the credibility of Rolling Stone.
  9. Ranking them By height would have been my choice. Saw a lot of anger Clapton wasn't number one. Think when he stole Patty from George it knocked him down a few pegs. Hendrix is number one and if this was a fair contest 2 through 5 would be eliminated. You can take the live stuff Hendrix did, the first album, and that would be enough. The experimental nature of Electric Ladyland may still be ahead of its time. All this aside, Nels belongs a little deeper in the list, say the 20's or 30's. His work with Wilco is one thing. Anyone who goes on We Jam Econo and cites D Boone as his mentor ha
  10. I hate to make this like yahoo answers with follow up info but no choice. When the time hits, I go. And while I have nothing pre planned, I Might invites an aisle performance art piece involving faux solar car driving, neck shave cutting, and Slim Jim celebration. IT just happens.
  11. This is where having your own label may be a detriment. Grammys come from press junkets, gift bags, and general whoreification. Not sure how they pulled the last grammy, but one or more of the above had to have been in play. Hope I am wrong, but sure the Ben Gibbard got dumped by that Zooey chick from the movie about pollen with Mark Wahlberg may be the anchor that sinks whatever remaining credibility this farce still has.
  12. There is a sitting, standing etiquite I try to follow. LEt he whose name is entered into the book of standing too soon be cast in to a lake of fire is sort of my working motto. That said, I have been watching set lists and Art of Almost is showing up third, I Might fourth. Seriously want to jump at the break in Art of Almost, and must be up and flailing for I Might. Has this been an issue? Will I be pummeled with hate? I don't care, I am bouncing when the mood hits, but I am worried looking at set lists.
  13. Nut sacks on alt sites looking for 500. If I end up with an extra I will let you know. And will let friends know a Wilco fan is looking for tix. Don't pay the reaper, to paraphrase BEavis and Butthead.
  14. Not sure what criteria is in these things. Do know, however, that Nels versatility is surreal. He can roll Minutemen or flamenco. That has to count for something. Plus, anyone who has heard Impossible Germany knows the man has range. Never understood these things. Hendrix, Townshend, Van Halen, they are the true greats. Know I missed some other geniuses, but also know that if I had any musical ability, wanted to have a chice of where my guitar goes, Nels would be in charge.
  15. I love the collection of influences from eachband member. Was watching We Jam Econo again and the very thought Nels was a fan, and influenced by, the Minutemen blew me away. It is great to hear little segments within songs, let alone albums, influenced by such diverse bands as the Minutemen, Steely Dan, Peter Buck style REM, Neil Young, Gram Parsons, The Louvins... The list goes on. Every once in a while John Stiratt sounds like Kim Deal. Glenn reminds me of Mickey Hart and Gene Krupa. Mikhael summons Thelonious Monk. The list can go on forever, but what is key is that once it is distill
  16. Not sure if it is a tear jerker for all but for people like me who have been married for 20 years it led to a collection of dust in my eyes I couldnt clear manually because I was too taken with the notion that I probably dont appreciate my wife enough.
  17. Bennett was dead set that Cars Can't Escape, Magazine, and Venus should be on the final album. Great guy, but Jeff had his eye on his message, and YHF brings it. That said, I made a disc with all of these songs in the order Crow had and it is a great album. Seriously would have held its own as a stand alone. Great choices.
  18. Great work. You can try all you want but it takes a knowledge of who ou are bringing on board to make it work. Imagine someone saying ok, what album should I try? Wouldn't even know where to start. AM? Sure, but don't know what opinion tey would form. Being There? Great musical leap but how does this album translate YHF? Masterpiece, but not a starter album. Seriously think The Whole :pve brings the entire Wilco landscape into the picture and that is what I am pushing now. Great job, though. I am going to try to take neophytes to live shows because that is where the magic happens.
  19. What a great song. Cant' say enogh about this gem, so will end this post with it its in the cards, everyone, get well soon, and walk away knowing that on December 12, 13, and 16 anone in the crowd will see a full on dancing spectacle who loves this song.
  20. Its in the cards , everbody, get well soon. The humor is what makes it accessible. Love the affirmation of my ove for wilco.
  21. I like the track placement. I understand while the final product left some songs off, never agreed with Jay Bennett on what he would have done, but this is good. I am going to try this sequence and see if it works. The problem is that anytime you do this you run the risk of Apocalyse Now Redux. A great movie on its own, then you see what could have been there, and it changes your view ofthe original and the intended.
  22. That was a great show. Very respectful crowd, and a certain ambience that isn't so much as tension you can cut with a knife but synergy you can cut with a knife? Don't know how to describe it but it is one of those recordings you can throw the headphones on and be there.
  23. When Damn the Torpedoes came out I thought he was the future of music. He never let me down. You think about all of the crap that came out from other artists in the interim and it is amazing that he is still doing his own thing on his time.
  24. Heard tales of two exciting Lips issues. The first is a 6 hour song, on a pen drive, embedded in a gummy bear skull. The second is a 24 hour Lips tune. Anyone have the 6 hour skull deal? They release it periodically on the site but havent been able to find it. I was ableto record it via soundtap from a review site but would love to get the orignal release. Also, is the 24 hoursong real or is the 6 hour set the end product? Either way, they have taken it to a level I would never have imagined.
  25. Ok, I have a great single seat to Civic Opera house, row k, a spare for the riviera, and can throw in another single, and a pair of balcony too, if someone has an extra to Metro or Lincoln Hall. HAve a preference for metro, but Lincoln Hall is great too. Will trade the row k floor seat to civic opera, which is the floor, middle stage, 11th row, one from the aisle, will toss in the one I have for the riviera, pick up the cost of both mine and yours to metro or lincoln hall for my ticket and yours, and can work a spare solo aisle in upper balcony or possibly two lower balcony together if I dont
