After listening to King of Lambs a couple of times the Lips bumped Radiohead from my number two band (Wilco still first after Whole Love} Like the concept of releasing a bunch of singles, even though there is no way in hell I will make it to the end of the 24 hour single they put out. I have an assignment in Texas on the 2nd, and with the wife in kids going to Jackson Hole to ski the entire week I will find a way to se ethe Lips Freakout on New Years eve and New Years Day.

W Went looking for a club or some bar they were playing in Chicago and saw they were playing the United Center, a venue that the Stones, Coldplay, Elton John, U2, and other top tier acts. Great for them. Heard them the first time on the Ricky Gervais Show out of London when Thickfreakness came out and they were huge in the UK according to KArl Pilkington but had little airplay here. It is great to see a band that paid their dues getting the coverage they deserve, Started listening to bak catalouge and you can see they work their asses off which should equal success. It took me a couple of listens, there is sort of a bias one picks up when an album is compared to the Kings of Leon, but after putting some time into this album I love it. It is a great old school rocker but with some catchy modern stylings that blew me away. Sometimes I am so pissed at faux grammy hype that I don't give an album a chance but this one on first listen had just enough to make me come back and work a little harder. I am busy all the time and miss a lot of music so I use the end of year lists to see if I may have missed anything. In the past it has led me to bands like Neutral Milk Hotel, The Minutemen, The Strokes, Leslie Feist, The Libertines, and countless other classics. I seriously don't get Bon Iver. I am not being sarcastic, snobbish, or contrarion,but this does not work for me. There are at least a half dozen sites where this album is number one. I am sure I am getting old, but to prove I am hip I like the Shins, if that helps. Mumford and sons and Bn Iver just baffle me.

Thoroughly enjoyed the cab ride a I took a week or so ago when the NPR listening cab driver started singing along to Art of Almost and heard the lyrics as Heart of the Host. One small step for Wilco, one giant step for misunderstood Christianity. Have a feeling that when the album breaks in Nigeria or wherever Speed Racer was from it may be a number one if fellow residents mishear it the same way. Christopher Hitchens was heard crying in the background.

Not sure what the above post is supposed to mean but a great song. Hell is Chrome is the kind of sh$t that makes the experience worth more than the ticket. Som many times, movies, sporting events, whatever, I am pissed I paid more for a ticket than the entertainment provided. Wilco has consistently delivered more than I paid. One Hell is Chrome is worth far more than a three Carlos Quentin home runs. What a great Wilco week.

This was a good technique at Metro from what I heard. At the Riv show a guy who reminded me of the Woody Allen movie line scene from Annie Hall knew his Wilco so well he was able to identify each song two or three notes in, give a one minute synopsis of what the song meant from "Jeff's perspective", and what it meant to him. You may be right about the knowing what is going to be played could lead to a dissapointing night out. A huge part of Wilco's Incredible Shrinking Tour was wondering which nuggets would be pulled out of the gold mine, And the Roger Waters reference is a great example. Baseball Project and Bangles are my top 2, but still workin on El Camino from the Black Keys. I am not sure I like it because it is good or because it is the only good thing out there. I was in a seminar yesterday and heard the Uncle Tupelo version of Gun as a ringtone when a phone went off. Odd choice, especially when the shite I attend usually sees a lot of Cee Lo Green or Black Eyed Peas tones, with the occasional Fenton the Dog or OMG Trampoline tossed in. This was a beautiful girl, maybe mid 20's, with Gun as a ringtone. Not sure what dynamic was in play but cheered me up.

And a really great compliment for Pat as I lisetened deeper.. He tosses out a nice partnership compliment to John, and gives more than props to the whole ensemble concept. There is an image of Wilco out and about that Jeff dictates, the band abides ,and this interview showed the true appreciation Jeff has for his band mates. You get the impression it is a collective, which is an awesome statement to what a lot of thought the band was but heard otherwise. Just got the vinyl package on my porch and love it. I had assembled the Sea of Tunes sets in the mid 90's, bought Brian's version a couple of years ago, but the vinyl kind of brings it back to what I would like to think would have come out in the fall of 66 or 67 or whenever it was due. Was weird to hear that Nick Lowe is not universally known. You can toss the fact he produced Elvis Costello albums, Rockpile was a brand, not a band, in a lot of ways. Wilco website is streaming the December 12 show from the Lyric Opera in Chicago. Truly a great show. Nels does an extended version of his handicraft on Impossible Germany, Nick Lowe joins in for a great version of Cruel to Be Kind, the beautiful voice of Mavis Staples is found on You Are Not Alone, and then Nick Lowe and Mavis Staples close it out with the Weight. Was truly a great show, and anyone stuck working late tonight has at least two decent hours of background music to offset the pain of benig chained to their PC.

I would like to endorse the idea of a YHF 10th Anniversary tour. Brian Wilson did this with Pet Sounds, and the Flaming Lips with Soft Bulletin. The beauty of YHF is that when you take the outtakes into consideration it is enough for its own show. Doubt it will happen, probably best saved for their swan song era, but would love it.

They should feature them everyday, all day, and owe them a full year of all Wilco, 24 hours a day given their expanding VIP presence every night. I don't think these were fans given tix in the premium zone, they did have a contest for a couple tix for a few shows, but not this many. These were industry folk from they way they were dressed. Don't think I would be surprised about the vinyl aspect of your theory. Seems like vinyl is the way of the future. Back in the late 1980'w I tossed a Harmon Karden turntable becuase it was too hard to find a diamond stylus needle to fit the cartridge. IT was a linear tracking turntable, one ofthe first, and last of that time, belt driven tables, and was pristine. Thought I was a visionary. Tool may be a better description.
