An audible murmur among the commuters on the train as the news broke. More of a greatest hits fan myself, but of course recognise the enormity of his contribution. Sorrow is one of my favourite cover songs, and at the time when I came closest to ever strutting my stuff, Modern Love was one of the tunes to be on my feet to. As an aside, ex-wife Angie is stuck in the Celebrity Big Brother house on UK TV. Suppose she will get the option of leaving, though from some of her barbed comments she might not be too bothered ...

I can't remember what the occasion was, but I'm pretty sure that JS once had a playlist on a podcast/radio segment some time ago that featured Ernie (The Fastest Milkman in the West). Hope that makes it into this list. Ghostly gold tops indeed.

QE2. I did not know that she signs the commissioning document/certificate for each officer in the army. I was with an ex-Royal Marines officer who was commissioned in 1972. Very clear and simple apart from the z looking like a j.

Two days ago I saw an original document signed by Beria and Stalin, with Stalin's being in a childish blue pencil scrawl. A couple of hours earlier I held a paper signed by Queen Elizabeth. Quite chilling - the Stalin signature not Liz's.

I know it's one you follow but I don't watch it I'm afraid. It's a bit too soapy for me and on ITV where the advert breaks are always a real drawback. Same reason I've never watched an episode of Downton Abbey. Don't get time to watch too much TV so prefer something gripping/intense when I do, or good comedy. Maybe DM seems more quirky/interesting to a foreigner. I think I read that someone here watched the UK version of Broadchurch with subtitles on. That's funny.I think you'd like The Detectorists. Look out for it. Ta ra.

^^ YouTube link to it above I can remember watching the "Nationwide" news/features show where they introduced the Gizmo as a kid.

Season 3 of The Bridge. Best series yet for me. Last two hours on Sat. Hope things improve for poor Saga!

Enjoyed a 10cc biography on BBC last week. A forgotten fav from way back. Someone has made it available on YT:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HdoocAtdSQ All four as talking heads, and nice to see the two pairs reconciled and talking fondly of each other. Interesting segment on the construction/recording of I'm Not In Love. Massively overplayed at the time, but when I hear it infrequently now it's still something that just stops you in your tracks. The "Big boys don't cry" lady was also tracked down :-) Made me realise how much I miss the innovation of their songwriting e.g. "The Dean an

The Guardian is doing an ongoing daily countdown. Star Wars not mentioned yet, which means that either it is in the top 6, or completely outside their top 40. Will keep you posted.

Maybe JT needs to follow her lead and intimidate the audience a bit by baring more flesh. -

I assumed that bulge was taking advantage of the trans-US railways. Similarly for the tail across Russia to Kamchatka.

That's a long time in total roaming around Europe. I've got a spare room if they need a base. Think I'll draw the line at Matrix and Cowbell Guy - they can have a tent in the garden.

Yes, and so close after the death of Jerry Collins too. Met him once at a reception for the Barbarian team in the late noughties (company I worked for sponsored them at that time). Not the sharpest tool in the box but a nice guy. Here's a little segment below that includes the story of him famously turning out for Barnstaple Second team whilst on holiday after the shock exit of the All Blacks from the 2007 world cup. He was well liked in Wales as he played for the Ospreys for a few years and was often foudn turning up at some local rugby club to have a drink with the locals. As for Jonah, anot

He could always use "I'm The Man Who ..." As an aside, Tall, Dark and Gruesome by Christopher Lee was a nice title.
