TWEEDY March 29, 2015 - Omaha, NE Sokol Auditorium
Albert Tatlock replied to H.Stone's topic in After The Show
I requested it for London (via the blank option if I remember rightly), suggesting that I thought an arrangement might suit TWEEDY more than Wilco. I guess they took a while to getting round to learning it :-) -
Watching this tonight. It's been longer than I can remember. Started with the extras and I think I'll do the main feature with the band comments audio. I think I only watched it that way once. The "Beep beep" line I remember fondly but not much else. It will also be the first time I've seen it on a widescreen TV, so I'll get to see all the bits at the edges I've missed before.

Loud Loud Loud# [Aphrodite's Child] I was not familiar with this. Listening on YouTube - I can only guess at the kind of arrangement that was played. Bizarre choice, but in sort of a good way. I wonder what the motivation was. -

I sense an impending feeling of slight bewilderment, but perhaps that's just the dementia kicking in. -

Scott M interview with passing reference to JT http://www.salon.com/2015/03/25/r_e_m_sleater_kinney_jeff_tweedy_and_the_decemberists_know_this_secret/ "Like Jeff Tweedy, all the lead guitar stuff he put on–he did, like, six songs. I wasn’t there when he did them; he did them in Chicago. I sent him the songs I thought would be cool and mentioned my ideas. He went completely contra to everything I suggested. [Laughs.] So when I first heard the guitar parts that he put on, I just was shaking my head and laughing, because they were so original and bizarre and not what I expected. It made me so -

Also, if you wondering where my touting of 'Banter Corner' comes from (which I thank you greatly for sustaining), its a derivative of the famous 'Compost Corner' from 1980s anarchic live Saturday morning show Tiswas - ostensibly for kids but with a big student/adult cult following and an incredible guest list of celebrity fans* willing to be self-deprecating in a way too often lacking in this overly PR-conscious age. By a strange piece of synchronicity, googling for a video revealed no other than Mr Gumby as a guest, with what also looks like a member of Status Quo in a leotard. It was a mag -

If they book it, he will come ... Much appreciated anyway Edit: Also, who knew JT was a closet globophobe. As it Oprah, apparently. Isn't the internet wonderful. -

I had been meaning to ask what keeps your motivation going when, by necessity, the TWEEDY setlists are more predictable and even the JT solo spots seem to my mind to be heavily rotating the same core segment of songs, but perhaps that's too personal a question I suppose a visit to SF is very welcome at any time anyway. Make sure you have one of those famous burritos. Is there still a lone drummer at the Haight-Ashbury end of the park? He seemed like the hippie equivalent of the Olympic flame when I was there.
