The video attached to that article is wonderful. Separate link here for those who suffer from pitchforkphobia. http://youtu.be/xUpSMPlBXf0

I had started to consider (completely separately from the reaction to any such offence as so tragically happened in this case - so please don't pick me up on that because it's not the point of my question) where the boundaries on free speech to print anything actually are. Would it be acceptable for a magazine to print racist or anti-semitic cartoons under the banner of freedom of expression? It has left me puzzled. Then I saw this in the Guardian today which kind of sums it up http://www.theguardian.com/world/ng-interactive/2015/jan/09/joe-sacco-on-satire-a-response-to-the-attacks

Mentalists - once a possible name for Loose Fur according to the liner art, so fans and band would have some (shaky) shared ground, but mainly because of the (for me) overriding Alan Partridge association, which might sum up, in a tongue in cheek way, the relationship between band and fans http://youtu.be/2WaFP_EFfTE

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04w08p6 A 75 minute time warp to what looks so much like another world I can hardly believe I lived through it. Some new footage interwoven with social commentary. Marvellous. Hope you can get it from BBC iPlayer via YouTube or internet workarounds. New Years Day 77 - Covent Garden "The Clash: New Year's Day '77 Built around the earliest, until now unseen, footage of the Clash in concert, filmed by Julien Temple as they opened the infamous Roxy club in a dilapidated Covent Garden on January 1st 1977, this show takes us on a time-travelling trip back to

Thanks for another year of Wilcocentric factoids (especially you Mr. SetListGuy), occassional guffaws, outbreaks of random weirdness, and general early morning at work cheeringupfullness. Ta.

A Vera Lynn song on WilcoBase? Hurrah!

Mavis Staples on her actual 75th birthday at Union Chapel was about the best and certainly the most joyous.

What was the hoo-ha with the second bid. I couldn't make out what the woman had requested, and then Steve Albini (I think?) trumped the bid to play anything but that song. And then there was the filming request to go with the original bid so maybe he was trying to get JT out of a hole that was getting a little weird?

Keeping it in the family: Wilco's Jeff Tweedy on making an album with his son Tweedy: 'I want to make a record that is universally accepted as the greatest thing that’s ever happened in music' http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_PV81tuWT1ew/TNbnu58ntNI/AAAAAAAAA2w/TNyi3NCKXXw/s1600/BENNY+018.jpg Decent enough if a bit light on anything anyone here isn't familiar with. Nice T-Rex shout out.

Listening to 'Last Word' a weekly obituary BBC R4 podcast, Ian McLagan featured. Nice interview with Billy Bragg reminiscing about the time his band joined Billy on his 'Mermaid Avenue tour'. - there was a segment of California Stars played with IM on keyboards. Sounded very very nice.

So, there is actually a one and a half page spread in the paper copy of The Sun today. Can't tell you how weird that seems - Wilco meets White Van Man. Bosh! Don't get too big headed JT - tomorrows fish and chip paper remember, and a lot of people won't get past page 3 anyway :-) Interview done whilst at The Palladium, publication delayed to coincide with the rarities and best of release. It was a pretty reasonable piece with a few nice asides from JT. I think that an editor homed in on the only possible bit of contention and wrote the headline to spice things up a bit, which is a shame -

Jay betrayed me. It was sad Wilco frontman to celebrate 20 years of triumph over adversity EXCLUSIVEBy SIMON COSYNSLast Updated: 05th December 2014 MEET Jeffrey Scot ‘Jeff’ Tweedy, the man behind America’s most intriguing band of the past 20 years, Wilco Join Sun+ now FOR FREE to read our exclusive interview... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/6152972/Wilco-frontman-Jeff-Tweedy-talks-celebrating-20-years-of-music.html Very surprised to see this this morning ( a ) because of the nature of the headline and ( b ) because it's in the lowest common denominator populist
