  1. Agree on the last part. I look forward to your reports. Must crack on with work now. Goodnight!
  2. I shall not be attending, but there will be a corner of a foreign factory yard that is forever banter. Actually apart from the impractically of particular domestic and employment arrangements, I think I'd suffer a reaction to such an overtly 'arty' place. I prefer some craftsmanship in art (or an actual truly interesting idea that is all too rare in the vast majority of modern art in my opinion). Not to mention all the poncey beer concessions. Plus all those gushing Wilco fans ... Edit. Based on a vague memory from 1981, I can recommend King Sunny Ade. Take your dancing pumps.
  3. Streaming for one day only http://www.louvinfilm.com
  4. Nels Cline and Norman Wisdom would be worth travelling to see. http://youtu.be/kColMK9r99Y A missed opportunity.
  5. Today is the big one, which is not usually a Friday.

  8. Someone has transcribed what Mike Skinner said http://abbeyrd.proboards.com/thread/5186/john-meant-paul-day-murdered#ixzz3OiukV4LF He has definitely spoken about being the first person to pass on the news to Macca before:- http://www.macca-central.com/news/2648 - but did not mention this extra information then. Really need to hear him questioned about it further ...
  9. FYI - Free podcasts of Lennon interviews available from iTunes. 1 from 1980 A series (about 2 hours in total) from Rolling Stone interviews in 1970 (I think)
  10. Didn't hear about that in December. It sounds like the semi-famous (here) Portsmouth Sinfonia Orchestra http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portsmouth_Sinfonia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpJ6anurfuw
  11. http://www.irishtimes.com/culture/music/this-time-it-s-personal-the-tweedy-family-album-1.2081144 Some reaffirmation:-
  12. Turned out to be pretty interesting. Who knew the Nazis and Bing Crosby would be responsible for the recording industry as we know it. 10 minutes on Brian Wilson recording Good Vibrations with the Wrecking Crew, and the last 10 minutes on the Beatles.
  13. The latest series of French police drama 'Spiral'. Wolf Hall - makes The Tudors look like the crap it was. And this tonight on iPlayer http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04z23vl
  14. Whilst watching "Top of the Pops - Ths Story of 1980" I heard an interesting assertion:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04w0fyz The programme got to December and Lennon's death. Amongst the talking heads throughout the show was Richard Skinner, an ex Radio 1 DJ and also sort of their specialist news reporter on a twice daily (as I remember) slot called "Newsbeat". He said he woke up at 4am and heard of the shooting on the BBC World Service. He drove straight to the Newsbeat office and on arrival remembered that he had McCartneys's home phone number in his little black book. After ditheri
  15. Keith "plays" a moog in 1969. Is it just me or does he actually have no clue what he is doing? http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/music/posts/la-et-ms-keith-richards-moog-20150120-story.html

  18. Some pre-Dublin publicity:- http://www.irishmirror.ie/whats-on/music-nightlife-news/family-affair-wilco-founder-jeff-4990125 Of note:-
  19. As one of those who is unlikely to ever get to a SS, I'll be very interested in seeing this and hope that will be possible. There was a snippet of film of a rehearsal of one of the covers a while back (can't remember which one off the top of my head). Less 'effect on the rust belt town' and more rehearsal/performance footage as far as i'm concerned though ... or an extras DVD with both the concerts etc. as I can understand the film going for a more rounded concept.
  20. I've seen it in the top 50 of a fair few lists. Just noticed this too from Roddy Woomble, a guy whose solo albums I've been enjoying alot over the past few years. http://www.roddywoomble.com/blog/share-my-festive-well-wishing
  21. The video attached to that article is wonderful. Separate link here for those who suffer from pitchforkphobia. http://youtu.be/xUpSMPlBXf0
  22. I had started to consider (completely separately from the reaction to any such offence as so tragically happened in this case - so please don't pick me up on that because it's not the point of my question) where the boundaries on free speech to print anything actually are. Would it be acceptable for a magazine to print racist or anti-semitic cartoons under the banner of freedom of expression? It has left me puzzled. Then I saw this in the Guardian today which kind of sums it up http://www.theguardian.com/world/ng-interactive/2015/jan/09/joe-sacco-on-satire-a-response-to-the-attacks
  23. Mentalists - once a possible name for Loose Fur according to the liner art, so fans and band would have some (shaky) shared ground, but mainly because of the (for me) overriding Alan Partridge association, which might sum up, in a tongue in cheek way, the relationship between band and fans http://youtu.be/2WaFP_EFfTE
  24. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04w08p6 A 75 minute time warp to what looks so much like another world I can hardly believe I lived through it. Some new footage interwoven with social commentary. Marvellous. Hope you can get it from BBC iPlayer via YouTube or internet workarounds. New Years Day 77 - Covent Garden "The Clash: New Year's Day '77 Built around the earliest, until now unseen, footage of the Clash in concert, filmed by Julien Temple as they opened the infamous Roxy club in a dilapidated Covent Garden on January 1st 1977, this show takes us on a time-travelling trip back to
