  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm-5J2C-8Bo This 30 odd minute video has (most of ?) JT's solo segment and then the Diamond Light encore. It seems to be have a really hypnotic feel, though perhaps not at its most effective in this setting/situation. The 'noise' seems complimentary/effective here - the sort of criteria which define the limit of my appreciation for it - I think the B side would be too much for me :-)
  3. Just had to quote that as it made me laugh thinking back to some of the 'debates' that have gone on here between 'fans' in the past. Appreciate your calm input. Time will tell for us all. For myself there's plenty of stuff I don't care too much for, but the majority for me is of course great and often enough even with an initial 'meh' JT works his magic to turn my preferences around. I just don't care to get too worked up about love or hate for any music - it's just too personal. As to the band, one thing that did cross my mind was that JT might be making a statement that this is in no way a r
  4. Liar! :-)Ta for the reports and enjoy the rest of the tour. Also hope A-Man got to attend.
  5. Jesus what a load of bollocks, apart from the angel hologram.
  6. It happened when I saw her do an in-store last year. He was very humble and likeable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECRrobr-a1I
  7. From Googling 'Sukierae' just as a way of getting any recent news, this came up in the search results, which seems to confirm the 'Sue' part that I don't remember being explicit in the press release:- Can't get to places such as Instagram from work, but I imagine there would not be much point if it's private anyway.
  8. First listening - not bad, not great. I hope the return of any bursts of 'weirdness' in sound is not just weirdness for its own sake. I hope it is not representative only in as much as I prefer albums with a large variety of sounds/styles, so would welcome this on the same album as a track that might sound like 'Open Mind'. Edit: It IS a grower ...
  9. So with 20 TWEEDY songs they won't even be playing all of them on any given night what with the split between TWEEDY and JT solo.
  10. http://www.rollingstone.de/news/meldungen/article583583/rolling-stone-wird-20-unsere-helden-teil-8-jeff-tweedy.html According to Google Translate:-
  11. Tangential factoid Una Stubbs, one of the girls from Summer Holiday, is Sherlock's landlady. She was also Alf Garnet's daughter in Til Death Us Do Part, which inspired the Monkees' Randy Scouse Git (Alternatitle). She was always closely associated with Cliff as she acted in comedy sketches that formed segments of his TV shows.
  12. Here's another I actually like:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7i7ajweZXw In my teens my hair was a cross between this and Macca's.
  13. Opening for Morrisey - you have got to be joking! That is bizarre. Well, my potted summary would be: the 'British Elvis', backed by a group called the Shadows who had instrumental hits of their own and influenced the Beatles ('Cry for a Shadow') and others - I think Hank Marvin had the first Fender Stratocaster in the UK. Anyway, back to Cliff. String of hits in the late 50s/early 60s as a sanitised rock'n'roller. Went into films too. 'Summer Holiday' I remember fondly as a kid. Mid to late 60s and 70s had his own TV show and went MOR. Kind of 'discovered' Olivia Newton John on his TV show a
  14. "The Delines are led by vocalist Amy Boone (The Damnations), alongside the keyboard work of Jenny Conlee (The Decemberists) as well as fellow Portlanders Sean Oldham and songwriter/novelist Willy Vlautin (Richmond Fontaine) and on pedal steel, Tucker Jackson (Minus 5). Vlautin is no stranger to critical acclaim in the UK, enjoying cult success and stellar reviews from the like of Uncut, The Observer, The Times and Q Magazine as the frontman of Portland alt-country outfit Richmond Fontaine." http://thedelines.bandcamp.com Few performers can affect me as emotionally as Willy, and I like what
  15. Do you pay up front with the pre-order? In which case jam today is much better than jam tomorrow from a cash flow point of view for Wilco Inc. Exciting times ...
  16. If Tweedy Jnr is at college, will touring be restricted to coincide with the summer break? Early June seems a bit too soon for that compared to the UK so I hope he's not dropping out I suppose it's too much to hope for a late summer visit to Europe? - but not the last week of August please. Anyone know anything about the history of the other guys named in the band?
  17. Staff Benda Bilili - there's agreat film about them you should check out. I used to liek Real Sounds of Africa back in the day, and the Bhundu Boys http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eksZrvhS36E My favourite African album would be this:-

  19. Nice find. Not a Pavement fan (to the point of not knowing the song!) but enjoyed that. I have to say that I think I'd prefer to see a film of the working up of the new covers rather than a film of the actual performance - since unfortunately I have no memories to relive as not there at the time. A kind of 'Let It Be' without the tension. Ideally a double DVD release then - one of each - to keep everyone happy :-)
  20. Apologies for the 'septic' assumption. Dave Allen brings back memories indeed.
  21. I presume you've seen 'Marion and Geoff' - his breakthrough mini-monologue series. Good stuff. Not sure what they do with some of the British-specific mimicry that goes on in The Trip - I can't believe Ronnie Corbett or Frankie Howerd were ever big in the US! Perhaps that gets edited out when they repackage everything as a film. Not sure a film makes much sense though, as its a very gentle elongated journey best devoured in parts I think. Too much all in one go would get too much for me.
  22. This may be releaed as a film to the US as this trailer implies. Here the last of 6 half hour episodes is showing now on BBC2. Some very funny stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55OtglvtXuI
