  1. Toast of London New comedy series - pretty good.

  3. About 15 instrumental seconds of One Sunday Morning during the first of the latest (third) series of Fresh Meat http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fresh_Meat_(TV_series) One of my favourite current comedy series.
  4. Almost all week the Beeb has had Macca's recent hour long Maida Vale show on repeat on one of its digital channels. its a nice set, and for once the new songs stand up none too shabbily. I applied to get a free ticket two or three weeks ago (just as I often do with Later With Jools', but no joy.
  5. Good man. I have to say that I was a bit dissappointed with the album - 5 or so excellent tracks and then some of their other new material lets them down a bit after the quality of the covers that they had made their own live. Still, they've got time on their side. However, anyone who gets the chance should see them live for an old school rock and roll experience and fantastic guitar\bass\harmonica playing. A really really great time.
  6. Maybe its this one:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfKARbdtwck The fun starts at about the 1:30 mark ...

  8. Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere but here goes. The whole show, only slightly spoilt for me whenever they show the crowd - i hate that segregated tiering of the audience that has become common at festivals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szYGMOvvCJc

  10. Some great video links in here (though I say so myself). One of those people/musicians who just lifts your heart/spirits. Such bad news ... http://viachicago.org/topic/48633-wilko-johnson/?hl=wilko Watch the doc Oil City Confidential too if you get the chance.
  11. Yes, I quickly grew to hate that chugga-crash sound back in the day and The Travelling Wilburys left me cold. I did like some ELO when there was still some novelty to their sound. I watched the BBC doc on TV since they are usually so well done that even the ones relating to artists I am not particularly fond of are interesting. There was relatively little actually on ELO, and a surprising amount on that one incident with the remaining Beatles. However, he did come across as a nice ego-less sort of guy, and I warmed to that. In the full doc there were several parts where he is apparently (and
  12. From the recent BBC4 doc on Jeff Lynne - this segment on the Free As A Bird sessions. 7:45 made me laugh - Ringo: "I am the f...ing click" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLrBiTUwbcc&feature
  13. I never followed it religiously, but enjoyed alot of what I saw, though it could be a bit hit & miss, especially the first series. It was funny to me though, as since the first 2 series were actually set in Cardiff, the locations were even more obviously familiar than many of those seen in Dr Who itself. The final series based in the US was poor, so I hope they don't just give you that one.

  15. Just watched a decent French flic film on BBC4 - Point Blank. Almost non stop action that was very entertaining.
  16. I remember being enchanted by a tv special i saw once at the time - going back to her Latino roots. its memory always stayed with me and as I became an Emmylou fan I crossed paths with Linda a bit (always had loved Different Drum though). Always meant to get the album but never did. Now could be the time ...
  17. To her great credit she was very gratious and supportive when they wanted to cut free from being in her backing band. More importantly, she helped pick Emmylou off the floor after the death of Gram Parsons.
  18. The music was great whatever, but whereas other bands attempted a style, and some like The Clash looked cool as something to aspire to, the Derry boys were the only punk/new wave band I can remember who did look exactly like us at school at the time and made no attempt to be anything otherwise. That immediately gleaned a certain affection.
