  2. I'm sure there's a huge silent majority who appreciate you :-) and it's just a time difference thing (and you being a creature of the night). I also think that in years to come when there's some BBC4 music documentary on Wilco/JT (why not already?) you'll be the go to man for the audience witness talking head.
  3. Banter Corner becomes a veritable Alcove. Ta (as ever).
  4. Something like that happened years ago in the 1980s with Germany v Austria. There was a big stink about it and now both final matches have to start at the same time at least. "The match was the last game of the first-round Group 2, with Algeria and Chile having played the day before. With the outcome of that match already decided, a win by one or two goals for West Germany would result in both them and Austria qualifying at the expense of Algeria, which had beaten West Germany in the first game" "After 10 minutes of furious attack, West Germany succeeded in scoring through a goal by Horst

  6. Just historical and administrative reasons I guess. There are separate football associations for each country that run their separate leagues - though Berwick play in the Scottish leagues and the best Welsh teams (Cardiff, Swansea, with Wrexham and Newport in the past) play in the English leagues. The rivalry used to be good but its a bit too one sided recently, and there have been exceptional individuals who have lost out by never being able to play at the top, level - most notably George Best, Ryan Giggs, and now Gareth Bale.
  7. Interesting, I've never thought about that. My only guess would be because the same tune is used for this Scout song - not that your average English football supporter would have been a scout. http://www.scoutsongs.com/lyrics/be-kind-to-your-web-footed-friends.html Anyway, I'm Welsh not English, so can roll with them doing well but also enjoy an embarassing defeat. I would not go as far as this though, which is pretty funny - he was at the Italy game too http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/worldcup2014/article-2663606/Scotland-fan-spotted-Uruguay-fans-celebrating-winner-against-England-named
  8. Done. Not as bad as I thought. £30 + TM fees for stalls row N, which TheatreMonkey says are good. Did not want to be too close after what it says about negative slope etc for the few few rows - though perhaps that is too heavily biased by the need to see Michael Flatley's dancing toes (his season just ends before JT) so I'm sure all will be fine there anyway. From my limited experience of refreshing with a couple of browers open at different sites, I did get the impression that they were almost selling back to front, side to middle. Anyway, I am very happy. This may be useful to others: http
  9. There is a lot going on here. Loads of books and TV documentaries. One new series contained only original film from the time - some fascinating stuff. Kind of like the famous old 'World At War' series but for WW1 And the dramatised depiction of diplomatic developments/misunderstandings leading up to the outbreak of war '37 Days' was excellent when shown earlier this year: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/37_Days_(TV_series)

  11. I'll do my best with Banter Corner. Setlist may be a bit hit and miss though. Shame you won't be there.
  12. The first thing that came into my head was the 'rattle your jewellery' line, but they actually did that Royal Command Performace at a different theatre. The lads did perform at the Palladium a couple of weeks before that.
  13. One off show - London Palladium - Tuesday 4th November http://thequietus.com/articles/15555-tweedy-announce-london-palladium-show Tickets available either Friday or next Monday depending on what you read - though if I don't get one after posting this to you all now I will be livid Hurrah! (Though it might be a bit pricey)
  14. http://exclaim.ca/News/jeff_tweedy_to_release_new_song_on_boyhood_soundtrack_featuring_arcade_fire_flaming_lips_vampire_weekend Interesting concept/execution - had not heard about it.

  17. Well on the way to Via Chicago MVP of the year (again) Paul
  18. Another vote for Summer Noon. Already the sound of summer 2014 for me after a few listens courtesy of nyctaper on a lovely sunny day in London. Another top notch pop song to go with the likes of Magazine Called Sunset and Dawned On Me. Looking forward to the album version with a touch more bouncy production freshness. So how many of the 20 new songs have been premiered now? Must be at least 5 still not heard? Would love to know the history of these songs - all written in the last few months / some from the reported slew of songs written for The Whole Love / some that have already been disc
  19. The link works but it leads to a Govt Mule page for me. Oh well. But there's a new thread where someone has put up an audio stream, so no worries.
  20. Do you have an updated version of that link or am I missing something? - its not leading to anything relevant for me and searching the site doesn't yield anything useful.
  21. Yeah shame ... A lot of his stuff was of its time but doesn't stand up too well now, but I remember it fondly. The Dangerous Brothers was a particular favourite. I have been known to use the "I have no brakes" catchphrase to this day.
  22. Why not look on the plus side - JT has found his comb again.
