  1. Ta Glad you made it after the recent flights nightmare. Maybe you got a ferry or used the Chunnel. For various reasons I was not there. Bad, bad fanboy. A double shame as it was your birthday then. I shall aim to make up for it on the rousing Cousin tour.
  2. Hope it's not the Wilco tourbus on an unfortunate detour. “Hang on a minute lads, I've got a great idea,”
  3. I think a lot was down to not being able to identify with suburban brats in sunny California (or wherever in the USA) and why they were moaning when in the UK there was Thatcher, future unemployment, and rain. That is of course a naive and very biased view (and your comment above indicates a different reality) but it is essentially what adolescent me was thinking. Very quickly it felt like a lot of the 'punk' bands were just poseurs (file under Billy Idol). That's why I liked so few like The Undertones so much. They were literally just like me (plus musical ability). Same was true for The Jam
  4. Really don't know anything about US punk apart from the Ramones and from hearing Dead Kennedy's back in the day on the John Peel show from time to time. Of the UK acts plus Ramones, for me still singles only from them and the Adverts (Looking Through Gary Gilmore's Eyes was one of the first punk songs I remember on TOTP)/Ruts/Damned. Big SLF fan and The Clash's first comes close, but still stick with my ears not allowing any enjoyable full album listens there. Not going to argue with your ears - just saying what mine tell me if you are interested. Probably not LOL.
  5. Indeed. I would argue that it is the only great punk album. Needs a bit more musicality and melody to sustain a whole album listen for me rather than 35 minutes of furious but repetitive ranting. London Calling and my beloved All Mod Cons just a bit later and/or New Wave. Same for Outlandos D'Amour/Regatta De Blanc which are the only others that come to mind and I associate with some great memories of the time but do not reach beloved status. Tonic For The Troops also underrated and Joe Jackson Look - Sharp, but same applies. I can remember whole album plays of Tom Robinson Band - Power i
  6. I report of that stature deserves more than a 'ta' but I am nothing if not consistent. Also, just because it is great
  7. I think I could do a good impersonation of the bloke in the cap - a nice blend of Albert Tatlock and Albert Steptoe. Albert a bit of a theme there. Definitely a name of its time.
  8. Ta. Now go and have a well earned Costa del Sol All Day English Breakfast with an extra portion of chips. Also, very polite applause from our hero.
  9. In other news, this article has a playlist corresponding to the songs JT discusses in his new book, which is the first I have seen of the actual list of songs it contains. https://pitchfork.com/news/wilco-jeff-tweedy-announces-book-tour-for-world-within-a-song/?fbclid=IwAR11GPE3fqYkdRPLByH26rbVwRliM-4HD7BJm5OO7lsI8KeYYlNZpQvxI1g
  10. I remember them discussed a lot way back. There was some Wilco connection - maybe they supported Wilco at some point I seem to vaguely remember. Anyway, if you prefer to use this (one of several topics they had back in the day) , there is this but it peters out a long time ago as there is nothing wrong with a new topic now.
  11. That's funny being so different to me as far as TWL goes isn't it. I enjoyed the mixture in the same way as Revolver is all messed up style-wise. I think the reason I continue as a 'Wilco fan' (of sorts you might say) is because of the personality of Jeff (mostly sense of humour - though it's also true to say that things were more interesting when they were more mysterious - the Tweedy Show and Starship Casual actually detracted from that I think - not that I have seen more than a handful of the former what with the time difference and I am only a freebie on the latter), the people who I have
  12. Yes marvellous. An album largely devoid (apart from Sleepy Joe's Cafe I think) of the whiney organ that has always annoyed me on alot of Bruce's tracks LOL. I always phrase things as 'I like/dislike" or "sounds/seems to me" rather than "It is ...". If people do that then there can be no arguments only conversations as far as I am concerned because we are all individuals with different sets of neural connections. Only when some blowhard still weights in with the "definitive opinion" that must apply to all then it is pretty ridiculous. Also, I found out what an edgelord was
  13. Great reply, and the kind of conversation that can be had here rather than on the FaceBook group where any deviation from the party line is a thoughtcrime. BTW I would say that The Whole Love is my favourite Wilco album - so I am not particularly one of the YHF acolytes, and Mermaid Avenue has some of my individually favourite tracks. Still waiting to hear a JT lead vocal version of the Unwelcome Guest some day. But then there isn't an album where I don't dislike something - and would struggle to list 10 albums by anyone where that wasn't true. I'm just very picky and have always wondered at f
  14. You're probably right and I didn't give CC much time - I still haven't bought it after a few listens on Spotify etc. But it made little impact on me and I was yearning for something more upbeat so I've let is slide so far. I really do like country music too (apart from urban country or whatever it is called) and people like Emmylou are amongst my biggest faves, so that wasn't the issue. The tunes and lyrics just haven't clicked with me. Also no direct snub of Wilco considering I haven't bought any music for over a year I think (and that doesn't mean I'm pirating stuff). Suppose I just haven't
  15. Indeed. The last 5 years of strummy strum strum has left me, well not exactly cold but struggling to actually remember any song apart from Quiet Amplifier. That may be also due to the onset of senility on my part though. I always admired JT for the melodies but they haven't grabbed me in that time. Evicted sounded to me like being on the path back to excitement but not at the final destination yet. This indication is much more like it.
  16. Synchronicity. Have had that song in my head for the last couple of months and have watched it here ( https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001b953 ) on and off multiple times since. Really like that kind of harmony guitar sound later on in the track.
  17. "Le Bon’s influences—among them the inclusion of saxophone, cheap Japanese guitars, and a cinematic, New Wave-style drum machine—drive the album into the future. " The WilcoWorld.Net page that started this all off is official now. Nice to have a Welsh connection anyway. Up until now it's just been Bryn Mawr and a Green Man appearance (bet Glenn doesn't even have a Welsh flag patch on his shirt for that). Hope she's got them all geared up for the rugby world cup next month.
  18. Going to have a listen in a little bit, or may wait for some kind of official video. Meanwhile, first decent album cover for a long time.
