Been to Kotohira and Ritsurin garden but that is all on Shikoku. Yes the temples/trails there are famous and would love to do them. We have only done a couple of day walks in places like Mount Haguro, Koyasan and Yama-dera. We were going to walk that trail at Tsumago in March but the weather was too wet/cold for it to be enjoyable so we carried on the Hirayu Onsen - nice to be warm in the middle of the snow!

It's a long long way for a couple of shows. I am not Bbop We would go again sometime. If it coincided that would be great, but then we tend to stay outside Tokyo/Osaka. Don't like big cities and the Japanese countryside is so wonderful. We have stayed in Tokyo for a few days to see the sights but last time did not stop there at all. Closest I have stayed to Osaka is Nara, though I was passing though Osaka in March and a couple of hours in the main railway station complex felt like hell on earth. Just like BladeRunner.
