Thankfulness 2013, Part One: Person
ripthisjoint908 replied to kidsmoke's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I'm thankful for my pal, Chris. We've grown together musically and personally in the last 3 years. We discovered punk rock together, and have seen countless shows. Currently we co-front a band that is the funnest band I've ever been in. -
http://www.youtube.com/user/BehindTheSounds/videos?view=0&shelf_id=1&sort=dd There is a YouTube channel with 10 videos, all very informative in regards to the recording and arranging of Pet Sounds. Lots of audio footage of Brian talking and explaining things to the session musicians. Great pictures and alternate takes of songs.

Uncle Tupelo is the most underrated band in rock history
ripthisjoint908 replied to IRememberDBoon's topic in Just A Fan
I love Uncle Tupelo but this is tragically false in my opinion. -
Really cool. I'm glad it includes One Wing's bridge..ive always been amazed at the creativity it took to right such a beautifully complex drum part.

Just starting to get into Leonard. A little overdue for an 18 year old, but what can you do. Where is a good place to start? Which record is his masterpiece? (I'm assuming more than one..)

Poll:Giving money to the government
ripthisjoint908 replied to Lammycat's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Saw a chart not too long ago that projected 50%. Thanks for throwing that in, Hixter. I guess every website is going to have different numbers. Ya never can tell. Either way, I have no complaints about taxes when they are used for the common good. -
Poll:Giving money to the government
ripthisjoint908 replied to Lammycat's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I'd give more willingly if 50% of my taxes didn't go to the military and more than 2% went to science. But taxes can be a good thing, if used for social and communal growth like they are intended to be used for. -

How many concerts do you attend in a normal year?
ripthisjoint908 replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
I work at a venue, and see 100+ local, regional, and national bands a year..but as far as paying money to see bands I like, a solid 10 shows a year. -
Bumping...listening to their record that came out this year. This is really, really great stuff. I advise you all to check out "Finally Bored"

A Thread for Musical Blasphemy you Truly Believe
ripthisjoint908 replied to hardwood floor's topic in Someone Else's Song
The Hold Steady annoys the hell outta me The Doors are the most boring band ever Not only is "Here, There, and Everywhere" the best Beatles song, but it is quite possibly the most beautiful song ever written. I love Wilco (The Album) -
The Velvet Underground paved an entire new road of musical appreciation in my musical upbringing. I'm sure a lot of you can say the same. Its a sad day. Lou will always be a hero of mine.

Bands with critical acclaim/respect that don't deserve it.
ripthisjoint908 replied to jff's topic in Someone Else's Song
I'll re-enter the conversation when I recover from the blow caused by the discovery that people on this forum don't like the Clash. -

Ryan Adams "Hates Country Music"
ripthisjoint908 replied to ripthisjoint908's topic in Someone Else's Song
I mean I obviously know he is a huge metal fan. As well as punk, 80's underground scene....tons of stuff. As a musician myself, I just couldn't imagine making music that draws from a genre I dislike. or in his words "hate". many others will agree with me on that. I'm a big Minor Threat fan as is Adams, but I'm not in a hardcore punk band. But I'm also a big Neil Young fan, which is why I play the kind of music I do. Because I like it. I'm not a Motley Crue fan..which is why I don't play glam metal. Because I don't like it. This thread wasn't meant to be taken too seriously. Just the simple obs -
Ryan Adams "Hates Country Music"
ripthisjoint908 replied to ripthisjoint908's topic in Someone Else's Song
Its just hard to distinguish whether Adams is talking about modern, mainstream country which is essentially pop, or real country music of our past time that more or less shaped his entire career haha. -
Ryan Adams "Hates Country Music"
ripthisjoint908 replied to ripthisjoint908's topic in Someone Else's Song
http://www.nme.com/news/ryan-adams/35990 here ya go! It sounds like he's talking about real country here. But I mean, you don't release an album like Faithless Street and do countless Gram Parsons tributes when you "hate country".. -
I'm sure this has been touched on in the Adams thread...not showcasing the article because its pretty old and everyone has probably already seen it, but a while back Ryan claims he cannot stand country music...I'm calling bullshit. I just was interested in what you folks have to say. I think it was one of those attention things rockstars often do. Its ironic, its unexpected...Dylan used to pull that stuff as well in the 60's when he'd toy with the reporters.

I've got a 1964 J-45. Got it passed down through the family..best guitar I've ever played, and most of my musician friends say the same. Very proud of it.
