  1. Great, great band. I saw them live in Champaign for $5.00 in the early 80's. Loved Monster (though I'm partial to the early stuff through Document). Like Monster, New Adventures in Hi Fi, has some strong moments.
  2. There are some GREAT selections in this thread. Let me throw out Wilko Johnson and Roger Daltrey's 2014 release Going Back Home for consideration..
  3. They probably have another 10 album's worth of material that they will release over the next year. Bob has never really had an unrecorded thought. Sorry to hear about the break-up. One of my favorite bands.
  4. Alejandro Escovedo with Joe Ely opening @ City Winery
  5. Water bills may increase, but it sure as heck won't be due to the ice bucket challenge! That's crazy talk.
  6. "Pictures of Matchstick Men" by Status Quo. Great song later covered brilliantly by Camper Van Beethoven. And I believe I saw Wilco perform it live (maybe not; could have been dreaming!)
  7. The final chord change/shift right before the final chorus on Sugar's "Man on the Moon."
  8. One of my favorite performers. I've seen RT live around 15 times. He is a force -- especially when he' plugged in. The electric show I saw this summer at Space was my favorite RT show ever. As others have posted, Shoot Out The Lights, I Want to See The Bright Lights Tonight and Pours Down Like Silver are all essential. One overlooked solo album that I enjoy is You? Me? Us? Two discs -- one electric, one acoustic. Across a Crowded Room is also great -- hell, most of his releases are great. Go see him in concert. Close your eyes and you'll think there are three guitarists on stage. Al
  9. "Who I Am" -- Pete Townshend "Twenty Thousand Roads" -- Gram Parsons "Shaky" -- Neil Young "Learning How To Die" -- Wilco "Let it Blurt" -- Lester Bangs "Big Day Coming" -- Yo La Tengo and, of course, "Our Band Could Be Your Life"
  10. Whiskeytown, Beulah, Galaxie 500, Pavement (I missed the last reunion)
  11. Spicy Italian is my grilling sausage of choice followed by Brats. Now my mouth is watering.

    The Who

Like many on this thread, I grew up on the Who. And though I've moved on, there will never be a band that I love as much as I loved the Who back in the 70's and early 80's. For those of you looking for something new, I highly recommend the 2014 release by Wilko Johnson (Dr. Feelgood) and Roger Daltrey titled, "Going Back Home." Great stuff.
  13. I'm updating my list to add: Parquet Courts -- Sunbathing Animal Real Estate -- Atlas Bob Mould -- Beauty & Ruin Wilko Johnson & Roger Daltrey -- Going Back Home
  14. Thunderclap Newman -- "Something in the Air" (Pete Townshend plays bass and produced it). Saw Wilco cover it at the Vic several years ago.
  15. I had a great live music weekend. Thursday night, I drove down to Bloomington, IL and saw Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit at the Castle Theater and last night I saw Richard Thompson and his Electric Trio at Space in Evanston. Two great shows.
  16. 1. Drive-By Truckers -- English Oceans 2. Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks -- Wig Out at Jag Bags 3. Old 97's -- Most Messed Up 4. Guided By Voices -- Motivational Jumpsuit I'm looking forward to the new releases by Spoon, Bob Mould and (especailly) Parquet Courts.
  17. I don't think I've ever loved an album more or for longer than Quadrophenia! Happy Q Day.
  18. Good grief! Some of my favorite bands of all time are hated by some of you? I guess there's no accounting for taste or personal preference. I HATE Mumford and I HATE all his Sons. I also can't stand Dave Mathews and Kings of Leon (except for Youth and Young Manhood which is quite good).
  19. O.K. Now that I think I understand the question (a great song by an artist you don't like), I'm changing my answer to "Stranglehold" by Ted Nugent.
  20. I love The Kinks -- but I thought the question stated that you don't NECESSARILY have to like the band (but can).
  21. A solo show at the Taste? That's kind of odd.
