My initial reaction to hearing A.M. (at the time WXRT played both "Casino Queen" and "Box Full of Letters" regularly) was that it was quite good, but not nearly as great as Son Volt's Trace or The Jayhawks' Hollywood Town Hall. Being There is what hooked me for life.

I played this one again today in memory of David Johansen, who passed yesterday at the age of 75. If you've never heard this album before (it's David's first solo album after leaving the NY Dolls) and you love ferocious vocals and guitars (and who doesn't?), do yourself a favor and check it out. R.I.P., David.

My experience has been that people don't show up as early and wait for the doors to open as much as they used to. I think in the last five years, there's not been a single show when I 've been there an hour before doors that I didn't get a spot on the rail - even for Wilco. Kids these days!

Finished Say Nothing last night. Quite good.
