  1. hey, condi is on top of it (albeit a week late). this time at least bush's cohorts have a plan. once all of hamas and hezbolla are dead, we'll ask israel to declare a cease fire. that's more than we can say about iraq.
  2. and here i thought it was a spirit wearing a red sheet. so much for that halloween costume.
  3. lucero's newest record is pretty much rock and much less country (which is a bit of a bummer). drag the river's latest is very good alt-country. labels exist to give rock journalists something to hang their hat on. they do nothing for the music.
  4. it was slight sarcasm on the pretentions of some folks (specifically, a good friend who spends entire vacations at film festivals squeezing in 40+ pictures in 5 days) in context: the new vin diesel flick is out, so let's go to the movies. in context: when i was in film school, i learned to love only polish films documenting the plight of man. or i liked dustin hoffman's early films, but can't stand the work he did in that ben stiller movie. but the terms are and should be interchangeable.

  8. when the bird flu hits, i'll likely help return nitrogen to the soil. until then, i'm gonna get busy living rather than preparing to die.

  10. this is probably a well known site, but i really dig www.dafont.com
  11. the trailers before the al gore film was pretty much all preaching to the choir. if i were on the fence politically, i'd have probably just left before the movie started based on the trailers. one that looked interesting was something like "who killed the electric car?". that could be cool.
  12. i'm with you on that one. i think carvin's dc-127 is the most underrated guitar ever made.
  13. john lennon is the new bono. i saw this trailer when i went to see the al gore movie. it looks pretty good.

  15. i've only ever heard break your mother's heart. i bought that disc used and was very disappointed. it was quite B-list material. i'll give him another chance though because i don't think you guys would be that excited over someone i dismissed on the merit of that one record.
  16. neat stuff on the serial numbers. my guitar's number begins with "I". weird. it's a 2003 dot reissue. time to do some research on my end!
  17. i read a lot about johnnie walker's BLUE label. $200+ for a blended scotch. crazy.
  18. world music industries is the other big korean factory. samick makes some decent stuff, but they also churn out some shoddy low enders (as is the case for all the korean manufactures). that said, i've played some pretty killer samicks and own an epiphone that was likely made in their plant (which i play more than my american gibson). WMI mostly makes schecter and esp's ltd lines, as well as the low-end prs santanas.
  19. i'd guess you've got a couple years on them at least with that much playing. here's a decent faq from a guy who sells tubes. i don't agree with everything here, but it's a decent primer on tubes. http://eurotubes.com/euro-i.htm
  20. i eagerly await the day when ring modulators are overused and everyone wants to be devo.
  21. you could always get a bigger amp and run a power soak or power brake between the amp and cab. another option would be to get a POS ampeg cabinet with some of the most inefficent speakers on earth. you could also get a rack preamp and run it as a headphone amp or match it to a power amp that suits your needs. there are lots of tube options besides combos.
  22. you want to make sure to not touch your tubes with bare hands. the oils on your hands will cause the tubes to heat unevenly and burn sooner. it's not a big deal really, but like projector lamps, these things cost money and it's an easy thing to avoid. use a handkercheif or latex gloves when changing tubes.
  23. if you're looking into orange amps, i'd strongly urge you to look into matamp first. that's the real orange amps, kinda like the heritage with gibson, matamp is the original players making amps without the name.
  24. check out the carvin vintage 16 http://www.carvin.com/products/single.php?...TAGE16&CID=VINT i have the big brother amp (50 watt 2x12 bel air) and love it.
