  1. at this point, i'm considering entering next year, riding my son's 20" huffy bmx. if i finish, i'll likely win after the disqualifications.
  2. HBO is selling this kinda cool shirt.
  3. i liked bottle rocket and most of rushmore. i don't like anderson's films, but this one looks better/more promising. i dunno about brody here though - it looks like he's playing the role of luke wilson. weak.
  4. i think of the 30+ invites i've given out, maybe 3 people are still eligible to stay on.
  5. the elevator in the school where i work is a decrepit beast. i've been stuck in it a few times, but the alarm button works (there's no emergency phone in it) and the doors are easily opened from the outside. ours is more annoying than scary.
  6. unrelated, but almost as funny. http://www.extraneo.it/goatse/goatse_ipod_skin.html
  7. they should have separate events for the dopers - perhaps a separate league (for all sports). i'd love to see competitive swimmers doped to the point where they develop gills or cyclists who have 3 white blood cells in their entire system. think of the possibilities! imagine if sosa could compete against other dickheads on steroids OPENLY. we'd see baseball scores that look closer to football scores (or even basketball scores). just as boxing has revered cut men, we could have rockstar veterinarians prescribing horse medications from the bench.
  8. a lot of kids in high school have a hard time reading fiction/literature, but not non-fiction. however, since schools are heavily slanted in requiring fiction, they label strong readers as weak because they are better reading technical non-fiction (think video game strategy guides or installation instructions). this post is a bit off topic, but throwing some nonfiction around might be good as well. i wasn't too much older than emily when i read A PEOPLE'S HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES. smart-ass kids love that book because so few of their teachers are familiar with it, making class discussion
  9. my favorite living author does young adult fiction. jostein gaarder's SOPHIE'S WORLD is pretty neat, but kinda textbookish at times. the solitaire mystery, the ringmaster's daughter or any of his other books would come recommended.
  10. i've used an eastpak for almost a decade without issues. everything still works and nothing is broken. that said, it's not stylish!
  11. "I've got my eye on YOU!" "I don't know Anderson instead."
  12. is it just me, or does it seem like NOTHING happened in this week's episode?
  13. it should be. i cut n pasted it here -- http://web.mac.com/emilymeister/ thanks for checking it out. you can't tell from the pics, but the Black Widow (rubber dress) piece was wilco-inspired. I was listening to YHF a lot and the lyric of "distance has no way of making love understandable" inspired the project.
  14. if you have a minute and wanna see some stuff, check out web.mac.com/emilymeister i thought i'd seed a message in a bottle and throw this out there for her. there's still some stuff that needs to be added, but it's mostly there for now. thanks.
  15. the defenses of vick are almost as disgusting as he is. there was an article posted on the nation's website basically saying that the whole thing is about racism (the main support for the claim was that on an AOL sports message board, there were comments made to lynch vick as well as calling him racial epithets). i wish the NFL would take SOME action pending the outcome of the trial. given the severity of the indictment, an unpaid suspension pending outcome would be entirely justified. the falcons posted a letter to their site saying they didn't know what they're going to do. http://www.a
  16. eve of destruction is more of a protest song than most on that list.
  17. allentown - protesting against recession? that's not a protest. i think the majority of my music collection are protest songs. this list is really missing a lot (and includes some banal stuff. as much as i liked twisted sister, that's not a protest song. the governator used it as his campaign theme!). Where's the Billy Bragg, Woody Guthrie, Joe Hill, Paul Robeson?
  18. c'mon rabbit. bite it and make him look like a dick.
  19. that's the problem of a two party system -- no one is willing to restrict powers they MIGHT get soon. it's like the idea of a maximum wage - most americans oppose it although the odds that most people will make $10 million INCOME per YEAR (current dollars, adjusted accordingly down the line) are staggeringly opposed.
  20. i just love how bush and co. have said that listening to the people isn't democracy, but instead is "ruling by the polls", which is of course a bad thing. :head explodes in frustration!
  21. according to the Washington Post, Bush does not believe congress has any authority to do much of anything (besides pay for his war) unless he grants it. i'd call him a dick, but with that new executive order, he might take my house.
