  1. i gave my mom some old copies of drag the river cds. she's been listening to them instead of country radio.
  2. that's because strange brew had not yet been made.
  3. if you told me in 1980 that a large portion of america was so envious of CANADIAN CULTURE, there's no way i'd have believed you. it's amazing how far and how fast america has slid in the last 30 years.
  4. my wife loves liquid sky. she was thrilled when i found a torrent for it on demonoid.
  5. the thing about sicko that was killing me was most of those people had insurance. if medical malpractice premiums are past the ceiling (supposedly driving up the cost of healthcare across the board) and we have all these problems obtaining and effectively using health insurance, isn't it about time people start looking into the insurance industry as an obstacle rather than the piece of mind they market themselves as?
  6. all of these are good choices (except the wes anderson movies. we've had that discussion before. i don't like his work). add to that the absolute best movie of all time for social situations and what have you -- the big lebowski.
  7. again, the big one was a solid attempt to show how the 90s economic boom was a load of shit for most people. moore did a great job of showing the downside to clinton-era downsizing and the stratification of wealth we have now taking root under the president who felt our pain and fondled our daughters.
  8. my uncle lives in el cajon. it's a nice area. lemon grove has the best climate of anywhere i've ever been, ever.
  9. mathematicians should not look like that!
  10. something like 9% of people in the SD area can afford to own their own home. cost of living is decent, but rent/mortgage is much higher than most other places.
  11. i sincerely hope that is the case. we have mostly circle k and sheetz around here, but i think there's a 7-11 not too far from here.
  12. Descartes views on religion were purely rational (and completely flawed). bill hicks said it well -- "Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here
  13. the candyskins - fun? all the rest of their albums choke donkeys.
  14. the get up kids have no good albums, but several good EPs.
  15. looks like you can cash in if you have some time on your hands. kwik-e-mart junk is selling for $$$ on ebay.
  16. http://www.7-eleven.com/kem.asp nothing near me. sadface.
  17. i wonder who their lawyer is.
  18. this is sounding like a guilty pleasures thread. one good album? considering how many bands got netted into the major labels in the mid-90s looking for the next nirvana, then got dumped in debt causing band breakups, there's a few hundred contenders from 1995 alone. mermaid av vol 1 should be in this thread, mostly because vol 2 only had maybe 4 worthy songs.
  19. here's my tv list of legitimate dvd releases, excluding japanese stuff and bootlegs: northern exposure (all 6) the young ones bottom aeon flux scrubs (all 5) my name is earl dead like me (both) alias (season 1 only) leave it to beaver (1-2) lucky louie mr show (all) ali g (all) the muppet show (first season) the office (US - both) the office (UK - both) trailer park boys (1-4) kids in the hall (1) taboo (1) the tick (live action) firefly greg the bunny god, the devil and bob simpsons (1-9) futurama (all) erie indiana beavis and butthead (all) robot chicken rocky and bullwinkle (1-2) mr bean
  20. malcolm in the middle is hard to buy, but it shouldn't be. that was a well-done show. i'm currently leeching all 7 seasons from demonoid. philips/magnavox makes a cheap dvd player (less than $50) that will play any format disc (avi, wmv, etc). a lot of my tv watching comes from dloading old shows like lancelot link (an all time favorite), the banana splits... i should get out there and grab the get smart series. i still (heart) barbara feldon.
  21. i don't know if you know this, but i'm a pretty big deal.
  22. i thought i did a lot of tv on dvd, but i'm sure my "collection" is small compared to many - cartoons notwithstanding. i have a ton of old cartoons ranging from betty boop to rocky and bullwinkle to futurama - plus scads of anime. i just completed Scrubs, getting a used copy of season 2 for $20. i have a bunch of bbc stuff also - the young ones, bottom, the office, mr bean, etc.
  23. nobody called babs and HW bush on their kids. one was at the center of the S&L scandal of the 80s, the other was a duty shirking cokehead.
  24. if by "his views" you mean over 90% of the scientific community
