  1. I actually like that little review, because it reminds me of my initial impressions of Wilco way back in 1999. I thought they were decent, but a bit boring. Then I went to see them live for the first time at Jannus Landing, and holy shit, they blew me away. I began obsessively collecting everything they ever did (and even going backwards to discover a whole other world with Uncle Tupelo). I almost envy that reviewer...lot of ground to cover.
  2. Not to derail the thread and turn it into a Phil Manzanera thread, but if you like Diamond Head, I also recommend Listen Now. Another great 70s record, which includes the classic "That Feeling Feeling," a song that could easily be tacked onto Pink Floyd's Meddle as a bonus track, even though there aren't any members of Floyd on it.
  3. Interestingly enough, I just signed on here to post about Diamond Head, as it popped up on my iTunes at work. If you love Phil, you'll love that one. Great stuff. Has a great version of "Miss Shapiro" on it too, as well as Eno's "Big Day," which may not appear anywhere else. I love Eno on vocals... Also, I agree with Lou wholeheartedly on July 1,1974. What a disappointment that one was for me, as an Eno fan. Oh well.
  4. A little surprised that you do not much like this album if you like all his solo stuff. You find these live versions too loose or sloppy? Or are some so close to the originals that they seem superfluous? Just curious.
  5. In the land of cotton Old times there are not forgotten. Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land.
  6. You might not like it as much as I do, as I'm a bit of an Eno fanatic. The versions of Eno solo tunes are not as tight as the studio versions, but some of them rock harder. Also, the 1999 re-release has a couple of bonus tracks: a really unique version of "Golden Hours" (one of my favorite Eno tracks) and a live version of "Fat Lady of Limbourg." Oddly, the cover of "You Really Got Me" might be the weakest track.
  7. This may be the first time my pal Lou and I disagree about something. I love this album. The version of TNK is second only to the Beatles' original, and I love the guitar work from Phil Manzanera. The Eno solo tunes all smoke, and the live version of "Rongwrong" is nice too. For me, this has always been an essential release. Get it!
  8. Did I mention that Michelle Bachmann is an utter jackass? Oh well, at least her husband is obviously gay, so that must kind of suck for her.
  9. The SPAC show would work for me. My recording is kind of crappy.
  10. I bet I won't have a good recording of whatever it is...I am short on all sorts of years. But you may be right...
  11. The quality of the Rockpalast show is overall very high...but Pete's presence doesn't add much. It looks like he didn't really know what to do, so he played a few tasty fills, some rhythm...not much to write home about. Still a very enjoyable show, just don't expect anything over-the-top just because Pete sits in.
  12. Breaking Bad Sopranos All in the Family Monty Python's Flying Circus Twin Peaks Rockford Files Ren & Stimpy Curb Your Enthusiasm Mad Men Saturday Night Live ('75-'79)
  13. I don't even care for the Branford shows. That '90s sound is too dark and weird for me...like Victim or the Crime.
  14. Been watching the Rockpalast show from '81, and that is a good example. Some stellar playing.
  15. If I wasn't crazy about that, imagine how down I am on what came after.
  16. Check out Saratoga '84. It's a fun show. I was at that one, dancing the whole time.
  17. My last show was at MSG in March '91. Compared with the other shows I'd seen ('82-'84), it was subpar. Jerry's vocals and even his guitar playing declined so precipitously between '81-'91, I couldn't hang. Even today, I rarely listen to any post-84 Dead.
  18. I looked up liberal and conservative on dictionary.com just for fun. Here is what I found: Pretty good definitions in my book, and definitely relevant to today's political landscape. I consider myself much more liberal than conservative, particularly because I favor progress. Seems like conservatives are generally concerned with keeping things status quo (or even going back to the "good ol' days")...except when it comes to the environment, of course. Who cares about conserving land if you can create jobs...however destructive they might be to the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food w
  19. Whoa. That's a bit of a shocker. RIP, Ray.
