  1. I probably shouldn't even wade in, much less weigh in...I get too attached to how people respond sometimes. One of my New Year's resolutions is to just not engage in nastiness, so I will do my best here especially. Bridge-gate. Not sure it's that big a deal, but plenty of others would disagree. Emergency responders unable to get to their destinations fast enough, etc. From a political standpoint today, it looks like a win for the Dems no matter what, but Christie apologized. Americans love a redemption story, no matter how small. There are much deeper issues with Christie's history than this
  2. I think The Unforgettable Fire was his first collaboration with them, along with Daniel Lanois. Love the sound of that record. It's one of the only U2 discs where I bought the "deluxe" version just because I wanted to hear what Eno did with them on the bonus tracks.
  3. Florida is a hell of a lot like that, too. Except here, it's I-75. In Connecticut, I noticed that when people would talk about how great it was where they were from, people would just say, "Really? That's interesting. Sounds nice," etc. It wasn't always taken as an insult. Well, except when that German lady kept criticizing America to my Mom. As for the different ecosystems, I think that's great. I am a nature boy at heart, and would probably wax enthusiastic so much about the beautiful bluebonnets that people would think I'm gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that...
  4. I hope he gets paid well for it. I've always liked Eno better than U2. I wish Eno would release more songs with his own vocals. I have always really liked his voice. Of course it's not a "bono vox" like Paul Hewson's, but I think it's cool. From what I have read, he's never been that confident in it, which I find kind of ironic.
  5. Based on that description, Texas can keep 'im! Lol I keed, I keed. Hope he's always welcomed there.
  6. Haha. Hey, you never know, he might like 'em. I know David Byrne is into a whole bunch of stuff that doesn't do anything for me, so it wouldn't surprise me if Eno's tastes run a pretty wide (and weird) gamut.
  7. Here's some more good news for those of you suffering through the deep freeze: you may catch some Northern Lights tomorrow. http://www.aol.com/article/2014/01/08/northern-lights-may-expand-south-next-couple-days/20803929/?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl1%7Csec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D428179
  8. No, I don't think it has much to do with me at all. I suspect that many people would find that whole paragraph obnoxious, and therefore have little interest in interacting with people who espouse such attitudes. By the way, I had a serious girlfriend years ago who was from TX, and she and her brother were classic examples of this syndrome. They were really homesick, I guess, and were always complaining about where they were (Connecticut) and comparing it - unfavorably, of course - with TX. My mom had a friend from Germany who did the same thing vis-a-vis the U.S. I know from living in Flor
  9. Aw, come on, you don't think Brian Eno has more integrity than that? Maybe I am just an idealist, but I think Eno is the man...
  10. For this reason alone, I have no desire to ever visit the state. To say that the other 49 states "don't understand state pride because they don't have much to be prideful of" is not only untrue but also pretty obnoxious. Even people who live in NYC - which has the Northeast's version of "we are the center of the universe" syndrome - have the decency to complain about how bad it is now compared to the good old days. And they have been doing that since the 1800s or something. Kinda cool in it's own weird way... I much prefer the midwest's approach to pride in general, as exemplified by Garri
  11. I checked out their first CD a while back. Listened to it once. It was okay.
  12. Well, I guess there are some good aspects of this deep freeze after all: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/07/robert-vick-escaped-prisoner_n_4554690.html
  13. But they did Jesus Just Left Chicago, right?
  14. Does this mean the General Political Thread is dead?
  15. Wow.No matter how cold it gets tonight in Tampa, I will remember this and try not to complain.
  16. Aw, this is a bummer. Saw him and Don perform with Simon & Garfunkel, and it was a great part of the show...they really revered the Everly Brothers. http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/music/posts/la-et-ms-phil-everly-of-the-everly-brothers-dies-at-74-20140103,0,2091176.story#axzz2pOSkbomv
  17. Brian Eno's Here Come the Warm Jets and Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy. Love those albums, but damn if the records and CD versions sound pretty crappy.
  18. I think the only time I have ever seen a headliner play a set that short was Sinéad O'Connor in 1990. She had an international hit with her cover of Nothing Compares 2 U, and I saw her at Great Woods. The show was only 70 minutes or so, but you could tell that the songs were incredibly demanding vocally. Sinéad had some pipes back in the day. The show was short, yeah, but people were walking out of there going, "Wow."
  19. You know, I was just perusing my email, and I see Ruth Eckerd Hall has tickets on sale half-price for Gregg Allman's show next Tuesday night. Only $25. I never really cared for the guy, but I thought, "Well, hey, only $25 and I'll probably get to hear him sing Whipping Post and whatnot. Maybe I'll get one." Then I came on here and read this, and suddenly my decision is an easy one. Gregg Allman can kiss my ass. Thanks, mountain bed and worldrecordplayer! You guys just saved me some money.
  20. Surely you know spawn of AchyBreakyDad as her stage name, Miley Cyrus?
