  1. Absolutely. And my point was, creationism wasn't even taught in my religious high school, evolution was. But it's a good idea to know what we're talking about here, because different people use the word creationism to mean different things. I happen to believe in both evolution and an original source, or God, if you like. I think it would be foolish to deny the validity of provable facts.
  2. I think quite a few people are using a very narrow definition of the word creationism. According to the wikipedia listing, creationism is simply "the religious belief that life, the Earth, and the universe are the creation of a supernatural being." The word has, over time, become associated with Christian fundamentalists and their nutty beliefs, but you can, as has been said here already, believe in both evolution and creationism. In fact, such a person is called an evolutionary creationist or theistic evolutionist. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theistic_evolution
  3. I agree with this 100%. I find it a little funny when scientists argue strongly against any kind of theism. That is almost as silly as saying the earth is only 6,000 years old. Just because you're an atheist doesn't mean you're right. No one can really know. There's no reason why science and spirituality have to be incompatible. Heck, they taught evolution in my religion class in Catholic school in the 1980s. Not all religious people believe in a fundamentalist approach to Genesis.
  4. Yep, that's for sure. And it certainly has made VC a less enjoyable place to hang out. Fortunately, I have no problem ignoring people if I choose to. So, anyone else have a Turn On/ Turn Off to add? Time to move along, people...
  5. Actually, I thought it was offensive in a couple ways. For one, my fiancee is Asian. Was the implication that all Asian people look alike? Or perhaps it was that I like Sumo wrestlers? Yeah, that was so funny! Sometimes the maturity level on here is downright depressing. Lamrod is correct: it was trolling, pure and simple, and tp excels at it, along with a few others on here. It's pretty annoying at best and offensive at worst. But no matter how obnoxious it gets, you'll note that there is never an apology or retraction. Interesting. Besides, I COULD have spelled out "Attractive Asian fema
  6. That is a great call. I totally forgot about this one. For me, it falls apart a little during the second half, because Crazy Fingers devolves into another Drums (always a guarantee that I will be looking for the Skip button), and I find the 20-minute Blues for Allah to be interminable. But just about all of the rest of this release is really, really enjoyable, especially the first few tracks.
  7. Are you Stephen Colbert? It's really good to know that whenever I post something on a VC thread, there will always be someone around to post an annoying response.
  8. Uh, not really. Did I actually have to specify "attractive female" along with the word Asian? You strike me as at least a little smarter than that. Lol
  9. Yeah, some of that kind of strong language just sounds like the work of a typical opinionated Deadhead writer, i.e., someone who either writes for a living or would like to. I use strong language myself, for a variety of reasons. I can see myself using a word like "execrable" or "unbearable" for a fair number of things I have heard on official releases...usually off-key vocals or songs where lyric flubs are more than just a minor mishap (check out the truly awful beginning to Alabama Getaway on Dick's Pick's Vol. 6 for an example of what I'm talking about). Of course, I expect my opinion to be
  10. I think he truly enjoys subverting people's expectations, e.g., his reportedly horrible Christmas album. Bob Dylan as this year's Clint Eastwood: what could be more subversive than that? Of all the Super Bowl commercials that ran last night, this was the only one I looked up today to watch in its entirety so I could hear the audio I missed during last night's party. I thought it was great, but hey, one man's trash is another man's treasure, right?
  11. That is a great commercial, but I'll stick with Honda products.
  12. I would add Skull & Roses to the list of essentials (over any of the "Picks" series), but then I prefer Europe '72 to Live/Dead, so I might not be the best one to listen to...
  13. His music does just about nothing for me - I can't help thinking of it as "chick music," as archaic and sexist as that makes me sound - but I respect the talent. Strong voice, and gotta give the guy props for learning to play piano, guitar and drums...especially in today's homogenized dance-a-tron ProTools oriented pop wasteland. More power to 'im.
  14. It's also a little weird that all the news stories today are about Manning and not Russell Wilson. Props to the the Seahawks for racking up 43 points. Talk about a dominating performance. I think that's why many people found it boring. By the third quarter, I found myself singing "Another boring blowout Super Bowl" (to the tune of Pleasant Valley Sunday.)
  15. Relapse starts way before the person picks up a drink or drug. The actual using of a drink or drug is the end of the relapse process, not the beginning. One must be ever vigilant, no matter how many days or years of recovery have been accomplished.
  16. For all you Crowes fans who don't like CRB, I think I found out what Rich will be up to while his brother is touring:
  17. Wow, that is terrible news. He was brilliant in Doubt, and Capote, too. Addiction and alcoholism are progressive and fatal if not treated properly. Sadly, he knew what to do, but couldn't (or wouldn't do it). Three kids, too. Very sad. RIP
  18. I know we don't usually post links to mp3s on VC, but here is a link to the above mentioned 90th birthday show, if anyone is interested. If the mods want me to take it down, I will delete this post, but please don't boot me off the forum for it, okay? http://musictravellerstwo.blogspot.com/2014/01/pete-seegers-90th-birthday-celebration.html
  19. Classic. Check out the lyrics to Rocket Ride or Great Expectations for some real laughs, too.
  20. Yeah, but some of those songs themselves just aren't good. The trick is finding a good song with a bad lyric. Okay, here's a Zappa one: Can't escape the conclusion It's probably God's Will That civilization Will grind to a standstill That is pretty weak, but the rest of the song is really funny.
  21. I thought we were looking for good songs here. Dylan is the place to start when it comes to good songs.
