  1. Helluva win for the Yankees last night that'll probably seal the division for them. How do you win a game where Cliff Lee strikes out 11 of you, you're down 6-1, and finally, your opponent has the tying run on 3rd with no outs in the 9th?
  2. I can certainly vouch for the urinal troughs at old school Fenway - my first bout of peeing stagefright happened there, standing next to my grandfather and a bunch of old dudes pissing away.
  3. Also, how great is Jared Harris? Unheralded as far as I know, for this role. His big Texas belt buckle breakout was a hoot.
  4. Nice. I don't agree with the "every bit" sentiment, but his tunes are almost always a welcome breather from Andy's blustery thuds of emotion. I think Frivolous Tonight may be the only song (or thing?) I would ever consider a 'guilty pleasure' - it's so corny but I love it.
  5. It'd be awesome if they approached it 180ยบ from the angle of most dinosaur reunion projects and did something that could actually speak to longtime fans instead of just doing what they think is expected of them. I'd love to hear a frothy single in the vein of Beautiful Girls/Little Guitars filled with tasty licks and sentiments that address their legacy and age - some shit like "We fought like mothers over Cabbage Patch Kids/On Christmas Eve/Now we're touring off the highest bids/We're never gonna leave!!" (cue Eddie wail). But they're probably going to try to rock our faces off and it will be
  6. Where the HELL did you read that?
  7. Last night's episode: now we're getting somewhere.
  8. I sometimes quote that in my head when I'm frustrated - "Oh, c'mon John..."
  9. For whatever reason it fascinated me in high school when a fellow art class mate made me notice that the Sgt Pepper era was the only time they all had mustaches.
  10. Been taking in chunks of Chuck Klosterman's Eating The Dinosaur in between unpacking boxes and quieting a crying baby. It's surprisingly good. I'd accepted Klosterman's writing/thought process as an ongoing disappoint: interesting but not deep, entertaining but too cute at times, and overall not essential. He's surprised me here though - this is sober, thought-provoking stuff, and his usual over-the-top pop culture references have been sheered away to the point that they show up only when necessary, and he seems a lot less driven by an aim to impress his target audience. Which is fitting, sinc
  11. Is there more of Dylan raising his eyebrows in the director's cut?
  12. Full disclosure: I only saw it once. Perhaps that was enough. Pat Garrett though, yeah - there's a movie.
  13. Whoa whoa whoa! Masked & Anonymous is like a movie version of a Dylan album. Totally worth the two-hour investment. Even if you hated it, do you really wish you hadn't seen it?
  14. Canadian Idiot? I still can't hear this album, try as I may.
  15. More of that earlier-than-early Dylan voice is always welcome. Cool. Also looking forward to those Greil Marcus liner notes on the reissues.
  16. From that one episode, watching her do her thing, it seems to me that Peggy had a hell of a year. Can't wait to learn about it.
  17. I learned about him from a 60 Minutes piece a few years ago. Great talent. RIP.
  18. "At times I love it. At times I'm like, 'Man.' " Great quote.
  19. Yeah but even if it's fake it's only $233,325.
  20. This is the kind of thing my home would be filled with if I had too much money.
  21. If Don's gonna be doing all this talking about himself now, someone out there is gonna be hearing it.
