  1. For me it's about the community. That's why this place used to be so awesome. Everybody chilling together talking about the new record. I'm waiting to listen until around the same time as the listening parties are going on to be able to talk about it with all my friends that are lucky enough to go to the parties.

Well, this thread is about your impressions of Schmilco, which you haven't heard yet.

Speaking of, I really enjoyed Schmilco. Best way to listen to it is on a really good speaker system or studio headphones. While it is described as a quiet album, there is a lot going on in just about every song.

  2. Jesus Christ:

TRUMP: It’s ― look, you know, I have my own ideas. He’s not going into Ukraine, OK, just so you understand. He’s not gonna go into Ukraine, all right? You can mark it down. You can put it down. You can take it anywhere you want ―

    GEORGE
STEPHANOPOULOS: Well, he’s already there, isn’t he?

TRUMP: OK― well, he’s there in a certain way. But I’m not there. You have Obama there. And frankly, that whole part of the world is a mess under Obama with all the strength that you’re talking about and all of the power of NATO and all of this. In the meantime, he’s going away. He take ― takes Crimea. He’s sort of, I mean ―

STEPHANOPOULOS: But you said you might recognize that.

TRUMP: I’m gonna take a look at it. But you know, the people of Crimea, from what I’ve heard, would rather be with Russia than where they were. And you have to look at that, also. Now, that was under ― just so you understand, that was done under Obama’s administration.

  3. Considering that three of the last four album titles have been (the album), Star Wars and Schmilco, is it becoming sorta hard to take the band seriously. I should note that I am a lifelong fan, dating back to UT. I've seen Wilco probably about 75x, I've been to two Solid Sounds and I've loved every record up until SW, which I thought was mediocre at best. I've heard the first few tracks on the new one and I'm left scratching my head. They sound, similar to SW, uninspired and going through the motions.

Again, I am about as big of a Wilco fan as there is, but......I'm just starting to wonder.....

Also the content. Star Wars is a clunker and Schmilco, which I have a difficult time even typing, is not off to a good start.

  4. You played pro ball?  Cool.  When did you play at Wrigley?  Is that before or after the major renovations, (I know they did a lot to the field)  The new Cubs club house looks amazing as well?

I wish I played pro ball. I was a top prospect before I blew out my shoulder and elbow.

  5. I'm actually quite jealous and wish the Sox were doing what the Cubs have done. Hire great front office people, tank for three-four years, draft really well to rebuild the farm system, and make smart trades and signings. I would absolutely trade rosters with the Cubs right now.

The teams I hate are the Tigers, Twins, Indians, and Royals. I don't hate the Cubs, but I do like messing with their fans.

I will say Wrigley Field is one of the worst fields I have ever played on. Fifth Third Bank Ballpark, where the Kane County Cougars play, is one of the best.

  6. Haven't followed the American League in the past week or so. What the heck is going on with the White Sox?

Piss poor in-game management, when the hitters hit, the pitching shits the bed and vice versa. Tim Anderson called up today and Jimmy Rollins DFA'd.

  7. I was just thinking about this scenario the other day, but in the context of it happening a few weeks before the election. Is addition to the traditional rivalry/animosity between the two teams, there would also be a political element, as the profile of a typical Cubs fan would support Hillary, with the Sox fans getting behind trump (well, except maybe the African Americans among them). So yeah, I could totally see the bad stars coming into perfect alignment and the city burning to the ground.

  8. Here's a great link to the story, by a pretty good baseball writer: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/columnist/bob-nightengale/2016/03/18/adam-laroche-drake-laroche-kenny-williams/81993428/

    Here's a quick rundown:

-Quote from Adam LaRoche: “We’re not big on school,” LaRoche said. “I told my wife, ‘He’s going to learn a lot more useful information in the clubhouse than he will in the classroom, as far as life lessons.’” LaRoche brings his son almost all the time with him.

-Son is always around, during practices, team meetings, games, etc.

-Multiple people complained to Kenny Williams about Drake LaRoche always being around (As much as Williams is a gigantic dick, whom I wish the Sox fired back in 2011, I don't think he's going to go out of his way to make up people complaining about the son). Williams meets with Adam LaRoche when people started complaining, asking him to "dial it back."

-During Spring Training, the son is still there every day.

-Williams saw Drake on the field this week, in the middle of a practice drill, standing on the pitcher’s mound, he lost it. Pissed off, Williams told LaRoche that was it, Drake has to go.

-Williams then said to keep it below 50% of the time.

-Chris Sale and Adam Eaton lose their collective shit.

Honestly, I hate Ken Williams. He's been living off of 2005 far too long and should've been fired when the Ozzie nonsense happened. But, I think he is right in this case.

  9. In the plus column, Jeff was smiling and having a good time most of the night, as was I.  His guitar playing was on point, and I will probably be having some envy dreams featuring his guitar lineup.  A lot of classic song selections made for lots of singing along, and the crowd was much MUCH more attentive during Jeff's set than during the opener's, where the chatter was deafening.  Also in the plus column, I got to say hi to Paul :D and had a great conversation about live music with the young guy sitting next to me, who had driven up from near Bloomington, IN just to see the show. He had his marina towers Wilco beer koozie (sp?) on his person and in use, which impressed me mightily.  "I always have it on me," he told me.

In the minus column, people sometimes suck. Especially people with a few drinks in 'em with no boundaries.  Jeff genuinely was startled by the crazy lady who somehow got up on stage and it reminded me of that situation a few years ago where he had to physically neutralize a drunk guy who jumped on stage with him and tried to touch him while he was playing "Airline to Heaven" (in Indianapolis? Do I recall that right?) Jeff actually seemed a little frightened and clearly wasn't sure what to do. He was totally right to turn down her request. The handshake guy, I just don't know what made him think that was a good idea after the nut who invaded the stage. The yelling lady, I just wish her friends would have told her to put a sock in it. And remember that these people paid a premium price to act like fools in a public forum.

These days, I frequently have the feeling that I am the last sane person on the planet.  Nights like tonight reinforce that there is a lot of crazy going around and it seems to be catching like wildfire.

I sat two seats over from the handshake guy. He was obliterated. He was also yelling something about "Residual Kids," whatever the hell that means.

I felt awful for the opener. Every time he sang a song that was uptempo, the crowd just drowned him out.
