  1. I was checking out details for tours of Paisley Park. There’s the basic tour for around $35 or a VIP tour that’s a little longer and includes a personal tour guide for $100. Any comments on one versus another?

My wife and I did the basic because we’re teachers on a budget during the summer (teachers do not get paid over the summer, at least in Chicago). Would have loved to do the VIP. We did get to see quite a bit with the basic tour, like his outfits during the different eras, his guitars through the years (the purple Rickenbacker 360 was beautiful), his office, his dance studio that was turned into the Purple Rain room which held the script, Oscar, and some other memorabilia from the movie, one of his his three recording studios, and the tour ended with the full video of his Super Bowl performance. I’m forgetting a lot more, but it was really fun. The only thing I was bummed about was there wasn’t anything on this tour from Batman.

  2. This is great to hear   I had tickets to see them open (as a duo) for Glen Hansard last week, but it was cancelled due to illness.

I saw them last year as a trio and they were stunning.  They're probably my favorite new(ish) band.

They played some of their quieter songs, like "You, Your Face" and "Sentient Beings" while still ripping "Water." Then Macie played violin on some of Glen Hansard's songs which was amazing.

  3. I forgot about today's presale. Guess if I go I'll have to wait til Fridays general on-sale and take whatever I can get. Maybe it's a sign that I need to save my money instead.

Psst: There's a Thursday presale too.

  4. Thanks! Really excited to explore the Twin Cities for the first time, I would have gone down if it was just one show but the fact that it's three is very exciting  :dance

Love the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Lived there for a month last August. If you have time (and even if you're just a little bit of a fan), check out Paisley Park, Prince's home.

  5. Some big announcement is coming tomorrow morning at 10am on WXRT. The detectives over in the other group found on streaming site Deezer that Everyone Hides is scheduled for release tomorrow. Or it could also be a show announcement.

Edit: I took another look at the Deezer snapshot and it shows Ode To Joy being released on October 3rd. I don’t think Europe is getting it a day earlier.

Based on a clip from their Facebook page, I'm guessing music video too.

  6. This was a great season for my White Sox. Tim Anderson, Yoan Moncada, and Lucas Giolito all had breakout seasons. Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease got a season under their belts so hopefully next year they take the next step. The back end of the bullpen is pretty much as lights out as you can get. With Luis Robert and Nick Madrigal arriving next year, and Michael Kopech returning, the 2020 White Sox should be extremely fun to watch.

  7. yeah we're definitely getting son-of-Schmilco/Warm/Warmer.

Don’t think so. The new songs I’ve heard so far in some capacity (Before Us, White Wooden Cross, An Empty Corner, One and a Half Stars, Everyone Hides, Hold Me Anyway) are really good and don’t remind me of those three very much. I don’t remember any track on Schmilco/Warm/Warmer being described as having “6 minutes of darkening clouds.”

  8. Yeah, I was there for that show. Knew the lyrics sounded familiar, so thanks for the reminder.

Jeff also took at least a fragment of lyrics from a work-in-progress that he randomly played once at a solo show in Spokane last year and seems to have incorporated them into An Empty Corner: “The silver black boot/That cracked my front tooth/Is a new kind of truth/I’m getting used to.” Just another random little thing that only the truly nerdy would care about, probably. B)

I get it, man. I’m very much like that when I learn the songs on guitar. With An Empty Corner, at Solid Sound the capo was on the third fret, when it was Jeff and Nels, it was on the 4th fret, and now it is on the 2nd fret.

  9. I am too! I feel like Warm took a long time from the first single till the second.

How many Schmilco songs had we heard before they did their first Schmilco tourdate? I know I saw Wilco on Sept 2 and 3rd 2016 before Schmilco came out and that was the first time a lot of those songs had been played live and the first time anyone had heard a lot of them.

Maybe they'll pull a Bon Iver and just randomly drop the album on the internet before the physical release date.

“Locator” and “If I Ever Was A Child.”

  10. Holy shit:

"A foley artist is a guy that used to make the sound effects for radio plays. One of the devices they used to make it sound like you were hearing troops marching was a thing called a marching machine. It's basically a bunch of wooden dolls attached to a rope grid that you can slam on something. None of the dolls land at the same time, so it has that sound of marching. Basically, the snare drum on the whole record is a marching machine, or it's an element throughout the record that is maybe more prominent than a traditional tom or high hat. "

That was shown in the “Before Us” video at Solid Sound.

  11. It means don't expect Glenn or Nels to do anything interesting on this one.

Jeff has said Glenn’s drumming percussion is a big part of the record. On the one song that’s been released, Nels played a really nice part. Seeing a behind the scenes video that was shown with “Before Us” at Solid Sound, Glenn was definitely shown doing something interesting percussion-wise. Looked like perhaps another in-Glenn-tion as Jeff would call it. I don’t understand how people are already negative about this album before it has even been released or even leaked.
