Dear Via Chicago membership,

I've just received a message from Susan Tweedy, and with the greatest sadness, I share it with all of you:

"I just wanted to let you know the sad news that Jeff's mom passed away yesterday. I thought maybe you could let people know on the board somehow. I think the well wishes of the community might make Jeff feel a little better.

He's not going to cancel the tour-his mom would definitely want him to play!"

I'm at a loss for words, other than to say that I grieve deeply for anyone who knew and loved her. Each of us here at Via Chicago who loves Jeff's music has her to thank for the constant encouragement and support she gave her son. She was his dear mom, and also his sincerest fan. I never knew her personally, but every story I heard about her made me like and respect her more.

Jeff, Sue, and family, words can't touch the sorrow I feel for all of you. My own family and I send all our love and will keep you in our thoughts and prayers in the hard days ahead. Much love to you.

So, this is very sweet & made my day. And to think that a few of you even agreed (and the rest of you managed to hold your tongues and apple chunks!).....seriously, I'm touched.

Also, I'm in agreeance about ms yvon being a lowdown cool refrigerator. But she missed a really really really great show the other night.....

Evonne! Envelopes send a hello, and I've got you a nice souvenir......it's an ice cube from my "Banana Hammer" drink ("Banana Hammock", Henrik or somebody called it, heehee ....we said no, that's only after you've had a few.....)

ok, no, it isn't really an ice cube from my drink. It's a nice little souvenir & you'll like it!

It was the most perfect of days. Full of fairy-tale romance & perfect moments. You've never seen a couple more in love than Dunja & Rob, and it was a joy to share in their day.

My dearest Dunja and Rob, may the home you make today within each other's hearts prove to be a haven from life's storms and a constant source of joy, love and support!

This is an imperfect world, but we are allowed little moments of absolute perfection, like the two of you meeting and falling in love!

I wish you the happiest of wedding days, and a glorious future together!

i love loose change because i can use it with high school students to teach them to read between the lines. selectively picked facts can make a really good sounding case, until you look deeper. the melting point of steel thing was such an awesome teachable moment. while it's totally true that jet fuel fires can't melt steel, it's not true that the steel needs to melt to lose enough of it's tenstile properties and collapse under weight.

Sounds like you are the kind of teacher we need more of, Anodyne.

I've spent my kids' whole lives reminding them to consider the source & examine the facts in whatever news or advertising they see. I hope they will go out into the world as intelligent citizens and consumers.

I had the idea for while and wanted to share it. Was not trying to take a shot on anyone, I like the birth of AGIB idea.

Seriously, please do put this set together! I'll even make cover art for it if you like. And when you're ready to put it together, let me know & I'll send my trade list for you to look over for songs you might want to include.

I totally did not see your earlier post where you detailed the actual solo Tweedy set you'd like to make (a terrific idea by the way). I misread your later post as a jab at mpolak. I guess it comes of frequently needing to break up little VC squabbles. Again, .....and if you ever get your project going, I've got some great solo dates to offer for your use.

Does anyone have the 9-2-2002 Bumbershoot Festival or the 9-6-2002 show from the Warfield in San Fransisco. I am curious to hear the Spiders from either of these shows to see if they are any different from the early versions of it from the spring 2002 dates or if it sounds like the 10-14-2002 boot.

 

Any opinions on the pre-drone Less Than You Think or the pre-windmill I'm a Wheel?

I love the 9-9-02 John Anson Ford version of that (Los Angeles). They opened with it, and Jeff sang the whole thing totally lost in the song, eyes closed.....it was gorgeous.

I think I have been late for every single birthday that has taken place this summer, so my apologies, Jeff! But I honored you on your birthday by taking an all-day beach trip during which many Wilco songs blasted from our car stereo, perhaps loud enough that you heard them?

All the Murphys wish you the happiest and most successful year of your life, and we'd like to tell you this in person, so obviously a trip to California is in order, yes? We have been too long without a live Wilco show, but of course we will wait as patiently as we are able.

Have some cake, and celebrate yourself along with us, for all the music and memories and good times and friendships.

This is a fabulous song to play loudly on a gorgeous summer day as you drive Pacific Coast Highway. I speak from happy experience.

It's a song I know is going to always recall Summer of '06 for me....you know, how some songs just become inextricably linked to the time when you first fell for their charms?
