  1. You guys are going to make me wear out the merge button, and then this board is really gonna be a mess. :rolleyes

Merging with the main discussion in 5...4...3...2...1...

Editorial comment from kidsmoke: True, it makes no sense when threads like this one are merged, because the board merges each post according to when it was posted in whatever (then unmerged) thread it was posted in.

Gives the whole thing a weird, surreal quality. A lot like the Springfield Massacre itself. :yes

  2. Hey there. I'm new to this site but I was the guy in the front row with my little brother as the drunk guy was getting a little rough. I have a gigantic amount of respect for Jeff after what he did for me, my brother and my friends.

EMPEROR! WELCOME TO VIA CHICAGO!!! :cheers Good to see you. Hi to your brother! :)

  3. Anybody remember this?

Tweedy solo Ann Arbor at the Michigan Theater - a deranged dreadlocked man in dirty clothes runs down the aisle toward the stage, and as he neared the stage, he jumped (apparently expecting to spring much higher) and dived (dove?) onto the stage with his hands outstretched Superman-style, only to land belly side down like a beached whale at the edge of the stage. Jeff looked surprised and freaked out for a moment, but he kept singing and playing acoustic guitar as security rushed in and dragged the guy slowly back off the stage by his ankles, until he landed with a huge thud on the floor - again belly side down, but I think it was the man's head that made that thud noise from where we were sitting 4 seats away. :o :omg

It's weird, because it all happened so fast. In this case, security was on top of it.

Jeff really puts up with a lot of ridiculous behavior on behalf of people under the influence.

Wow, Wendy, what a story. :blink

  4. I was really scared they were going to leave after "Airline" last night. I'm very thankful that they didn't.

We worried the same, a little.......it would've been understandable. But instead we got a passionate, intense rest-of-the-show, with two long encores. We are some well loved, lucky fans of a generous band.

Jethro, I was there and there was no "decking".

  5. What about LNGCA?

The name has already been given ("Let's Not Get Carried Away"), but no one has mentioned the pronunciation of this - it's "Lung-Ka"

Let's all try it together: "Lung-Ka"

:thumbup Excellent. You guys are smart as whips.

    Hello all,

I'm brand new to viachicago but not to Wilco. I just heard about this board at the Wichita show and thought i would come join in on all the fun.

    Welcome to Via Chicago! :cheers

Congrats creativetype, very cool moment. Thanks for sharing the setlist. Here's a very fuzzy photo of Jeff taking your photo (let's hope Jeff is a better photographer than me!). ;)

Loved the show. Misunderstood was especially poignant IMHO; 48 "nothins" is amazing...most I've heard in the handful of shows we've seen...but not surprising...a very cathartic moment. Think Jeff was completely right about having scream therapy with your fellow man too...I do feel lighter today (despite the lack of sleep and sore throat). :yes Was great to hear Radio Cure as well.

Kidsmoke, we (hubby is atomicblooz BTW) looked for you but alas, couldn't find anyone that fit the description you gave. :ohwell Hopefully next time. :) We were about three rows back on Pat's end.

Oh, I'm sorry we missed meeting! :o As you see from the picture Jeff took of Clay, half of me is next to M.Christine. The other half was probably nearby. :yes

Your picture of Jeff taking Clay's picture is adorable! I have one too; will post once home. (Still in MO)

Since Clay (creativetype) is out of pocket today, I'll try and provide a little more detail on the camera incident....

Clay was taking pics of some people he knew (we were on the rail), and it was when the band was coming out for the encore, and his flash went off (he'd had it turned off all night so it wouldn't disturb the band), and Jeff asked him "did you want to be in the picture?" and asked for his camera. My first thought was "oh man, Jeff's pissed and Clay's not getting his camera back!" But Jeff took the picture of us, and the crowd's in the background with hands raised - very cool shot! We talked to Jeff after the show and he was excited about taking that pic - said "it turned out pretty good, huh? and if you use it anywhere, make sure I get the credit!"

    M. Christine's in the pic, and half of Kidsmoke is in it - we were all in front of Jeff. I'm sure Clay can provide more details later, but it was a cool moment... Donna/Kidsmoke got a pic of Jeff taking the pic also.

In the pic Jeff took of Clay, you can see that I'm holding up my camera to take a pic of Jeff photographing Clay! :lol Well, my arm's in there holding the camera, anyway.

    Hi everybody!

I'm new to Via Chicago, but I've been a Wilco fan for quite a while. For a long time I wanted my first actual concert to be Wilco, and I was simply amazed. EVERYTHING was incredible! I knew it was going to be great, but I was blown away.

After the concert, Jeff signed my Ghost is Born cover. I wanted to thank him for making such an impact on my life and for all of his incredible music, but I was so shy and starstuck that hardly anything came out of my mouth. So if you're out there, Jeff, thank you.

If anyone has pictures, and tapes especially, I would also be interested.

    Nice to meet everyone!

    Kiel

Welcome to Via Chicago! More pictures coming. ;)

The show was amazing - best one I've been to in terms of awesome people in the front (oh yes, Clay and Craig, I'm talkin' bout you.) It was nice to meet other fans - and have a rock star take our picture! Hope the Springfield show is a good one for those of you who could go!

You boys look so damned cute in that photo, we may have to go ahead with the plans for that "Men of Via Chicago" calendar fundraiser.... :)

Good lookin' group! Wish I'd have been there.

We wish you could've been, too. :cheekkiss

This show was way too much fun. I think I moshed a little. Teh Wilcos stole my heart again.

It was awesome to be there with kidsmoke, Edie, creativetype and red1996. Meeting oceanman was the icing on that cake.

    There are pics!

She moshed right into me once. :pirate

What a fun group of VC'ers. We are a party waiting to happen. :dance And lacking patience of any sort, we tend to just happen.

There was signage. Moshing was strictly forbidden.

I think kismoke has 'em. Tomorrow when she gets home.

Chris may have been nipping into Granny's special cough syrup a bit. My name is kidsmoke. Kidsmoke , not "kismoke". Once you start slurring on the printed page :omg , it's time to put the cough syrup down. :unsure

I sense a slap in my future, over that one. :P

What a show. What an incredible, astonishing, feats-of-mastery-and-magic, unbelievable show! I liked when Nels played so hard he levitated. :worship How does he do that?!! You rock, Nels. :thumbup

  6. Some of those quotes are fairly off but no harm done. I was front row between Nels and Jeff and the events happened just about how Jaded Insider put it. Althought I didn't see Jeff punch the guy, just yank him by the neck/hair over to stage right while Nels was trying to get the good-for-nothing security goons to do their job.

Should've said hello! Oh well, next concert. :cheers

I concur with your memory of events.

Pretty funny how Jeff's Kingpin ramble was quoted in the Billboard article, making it sound as if those remarks had some bearing on The Incident. :P "Confused Reportage R Us" seems to be the order of the day.

  7. Aw, thanks Jen. I just calls 'em as I sees 'em. :cheekkiss

Red Eyed/I Got You were indescribably mindblowing (sorry, grew up in the 60's :P ) during the soundcheck, so I'm really sorry we missed getting that.

PS dear band, please put "Who Were You Thinking Of" back into rotation.....too good not to. Oh my. :thumbup

  8. I wasn't at the show, so I'm not clear on what happened, but I think it is funny that out of all the comments we've seen here explaining the incident, Pitchfork uses the most sensationalized version for its story before getting to the real details.

    Pretty typical Pitchforking. :rolleyes

  9. this is what was posted over on the flaming lips board that i post at a lot more:

"so i went to see wilco monday night in springfield, mo. during the first encore, some drunken frat boy jumps on stage and starts doing the "look at me, i'm on stage" dance. jeff tweedy kinda gave him a "not cool" look but kept singing. then the guy put his hand on jeff's head like he was going to whisper something to him, and to my suprise, nice guy, folk singer, jeff tweedy, punched this guy right in the fucking face! finaly security came out and got the guy. the cool thing was jeff didn't pull and axl rose (scream at the audience and leave). he calmly explained he didn't want to do that but, it's scary when some nut jumps on stage. then he picked up where he left off and finished the song. very cool.

i personaly wish he had continued beating the guy on stage until someone begged him to stop. after the dimebag darrel incident, anyone who approches a band on stage should know better."

    :blink

Some serious inaccuracies in that report.....no face-punching occurred. Jeff handled it with real class after the initial freaky get-this-lunatic-off-me natural reaction.

It all happened very quickly. Kind of surreal. Jeff just wanted to sing "Airline to Heaven".

  10. ???

Tugmoose, the very very brief story is this: in addition to drunken & aggressive people in the audience, one of whom Jeff had to deal with early in the concert from stage's edge, there were also two separate incidents of audience members walking/jumping onstage in the middle of the band performing songs. (Two different songs!)

It was pretty freaky, to say the least, and the second one, a guy, put his hands on Jeff, and Jeff understandably went off on the guy's drunken, fool ass. (no serious damage to anyone) I'd've killed him if it had been me, and I think everyone in the audience felt pretty much the same.

Where the hell was security??? :realmad

  11. Thanks, Oceanman, and let's just add that, as an audience and their band, we DID make it better. :yes What a triumphant and joyous ending we had, to one of the most bizarre concert experiences I've ever had! :huh Whoa, what a night.

Jeff, Wilco, you continue to amaze and inspire. Tonight's concert was beautiful, and you managed to take lunacy.....skeins and skeins of it!....and weave it into music and love.

As we all sang in Jesus Etc, "our love is all we have". :wub

I must sleep.....Edie, Chris and I have miles to travel in the early a.m. Concert details will doubtless be forthcoming from others who were in attendance. Jeff, you handled the night beautifully, and band, the concert knocked my socks off. I still haven't found the blamed things.... :P

Glenn, that is one kickass solo in LNGCA! :thumbup

Now let's all get a good night's sleep, and maybe tomorrow it won't still be a full moon.....or whatever it was....! :stunned
