this is what was posted over on the flaming lips board that i post at a lot more:
"so i went to see wilco monday night in springfield, mo. during the first encore, some drunken frat boy jumps on stage and starts doing the "look at me, i'm on stage" dance. jeff tweedy kinda gave him a "not cool" look but kept singing. then the guy put his hand on jeff's head like he was going to whisper something to him, and to my suprise, nice guy, folk singer, jeff tweedy, punched this guy right in the fucking face! finaly security came out and got the guy. the cool thing was jeff didn't pull and axl rose (scream at the audience and leave). he calmly explained he didn't want to do that but, it's scary when some nut jumps on stage. then he picked up where he left off and finished the song. very cool.
i personaly wish he had continued beating the guy on stage until someone begged him to stop. after the dimebag darrel incident, anyone who approches a band on stage should know better."
Some serious inaccuracies in that report.....no face-punching occurred. Jeff handled it with real class after the initial freaky get-this-lunatic-off-me natural reaction.
It all happened very quickly. Kind of surreal. Jeff just wanted to sing "Airline to Heaven".

???
Tugmoose, the very very brief story is this: in addition to drunken & aggressive people in the audience, one of whom Jeff had to deal with early in the concert from stage's edge, there were also two separate incidents of audience members walking/jumping onstage in the middle of the band performing songs. (Two different songs!)
It was pretty freaky, to say the least, and the second one, a guy, put his hands on Jeff, and Jeff understandably went off on the guy's drunken, fool ass. (no serious damage to anyone) I'd've killed him if it had been me, and I think everyone in the audience felt pretty much the same.
Where the hell was security???

Thanks, Oceanman, and let's just add that, as an audience and their band, we DID make it better.
What a triumphant and joyous ending we had, to one of the most bizarre concert experiences I've ever had!
Whoa, what a night.
Jeff, Wilco, you continue to amaze and inspire. Tonight's concert was beautiful, and you managed to take lunacy.....skeins and skeins of it!....and weave it into music and love.
As we all sang in Jesus Etc, "our love is all we have".
I must sleep.....Edie, Chris and I have miles to travel in the early a.m. Concert details will doubtless be forthcoming from others who were in attendance. Jeff, you handled the night beautifully, and band, the concert knocked my socks off. I still haven't found the blamed things....
Glenn, that is one kickass solo in LNGCA!
Now let's all get a good night's sleep, and maybe tomorrow it won't still be a full moon.....or whatever it was....!

Good for you for not letting that coach bully you into something you weren't ready for! Take it at your own speed, sweetie.
-
I had no idea you were going to be out this way!I've been kind of worried how I was going to afford this but yesterday I got a bonus at work
what better timing.Hope to see ya.
I'll be with Chris & Edie. Practically a party on wheels! See ya.

So glad to hear that you are ok, Lauren.
That could have turned out so horribly. Tip your angels!

Smart moves all.

Red1996 and I are in!
Looking forward to seeing you Donna, Christine ... bringing the kids?
No kids unless Edie decides to act childish....
Edie's probably gonna slap me for that one.....
-
I'm happy to say I'll see you there! Please introduce yourselves, any and all......I'll be right up in the very front with M. Chris and Edie.
-
I, too, will be looking to see whether you are on your best behavior, Oceanman.
-
Clay!!! See you there!!!!!

Narziss, evil admin, beloved ol' pudding pants, you tabletop-dancing fool, I am in genuine tears as I face this sad day. You have been the fairest and most skilled of administrators, a funny and fascinating member of the VC Corps, and always, that most precious of commodities, a dear and treasured friend. I hope that will never end.
My head is filled beyond full with memories of your presence here. It's been a fantastic website since before I even stumbled across it (in April of 2002) and I think I knew, from my very first contacts with you and the venerable Long-Legged Pterydactyl (Hi LLP!
) that I had found something special. All this time later, I remain as honored as I first was, to be invited to help run this lofty little enterprise. I hope my admin-ing efforts have been satisfactory, and you have mostly forgotten that time I locked myself out and had to throw pebbles at the upstairs window until you and LLP came and let me back in.
I promise you that I will try to always live up to the wonderful and unique tone you set for Via Chicago, so that we can always be the sort of website you will have been proud to have mentored. I wish you a glorious, cantaloupe-colored ride off into yonder sunset, knowing always that anytime you want, you can ride back, tie up your sweaty old horse, grab a brew at the saloon, and bust a few chairs over a few heads. Ok, this analogy is not working at all, but it's because I'm so blinded by tears that I can hardly seee t typ muck lesss thing throuough an analgy....**SOB**....
.......oh solace, please hold me.....I'm gonna just cry in a corner for awhile here.....anybody got a hankie?
Love ya, Narzy.

Shoot, Bridget, it's getting to be damned near traditional for me to be late with birthday wishes! I did think fondly of you on your day, and here is your long-baking cake, sweetie!
As you see, I pre-tasted it for tonsicisity. It's fine.
Have a wonderful year, mystik one!

Wow, much sympathy to everyone left waiting and wondering and worrying. That's a horrible position to be in. My strongest hopes and vibes that he turns up very soon, in happy & healthy shape.
-
I think you might have just named the project. I was kind of kicking around W#lco Happens or dBpm but that one's a winner.

That's a keeper....nice work, Shane!

And Pervert, leave the bobbobs alone as well.

Let's dial down the personal attacks, what say? I don't think anyone is particularly trying to be any of these obscenities being bandied about, I think we all just feel that we need more Wilco in our lives, live & in concert. Is that such a bad thing?
Personally, I think it's high time we saw more Wilco in California.....
But seriously, all, let's just take a big step back from the ugly sniping, which flatters no one, and let's try for a bit more tolerance and friendship. VC is a nicer place to visit when we all practice some "live & let live" attitudes.
Thank you.

Dear Via Chicago membership,
I've just received a message from Susan Tweedy, and with the greatest sadness, I share it with all of you:
"I just wanted to let you know the sad news that Jeff's mom passed away yesterday. I thought maybe you could let people know on the board somehow. I think the well wishes of the community might make Jeff feel a little better.
He's not going to cancel the tour-his mom would definitely want him to play!"
I'm at a loss for words, other than to say that I grieve deeply for anyone who knew and loved her. Each of us here at Via Chicago who loves Jeff's music has her to thank for the constant encouragement and support she gave her son. She was his dear mom, and also his sincerest fan. I never knew her personally, but every story I heard about her made me like and respect her more.
Jeff, Sue, and family, words can't touch the sorrow I feel for all of you. My own family and I send all our love and will keep you in our thoughts and prayers in the hard days ahead. Much love to you.

I think kidsmoke should get 11 out of 10 status as well.
I'm just sayin'.
So, this is very sweet & made my day.
And to think that a few of you even agreed (and the rest of you managed to hold your tongues and apple chunks!).....seriously, I'm touched.
Also, I'm in agreeance about ms yvon being a lowdown cool refrigerator. But she missed a really really really great show the other night.....
Evonne! Envelopes send a hello, and I've got you a nice souvenir......it's an ice cube from my "Banana Hammer" drink ("Banana Hammock", Henrik or somebody called it, heehee
....we said no, that's only after you've had a few.....)
ok, no, it isn't really an ice cube from my drink. It's a nice little souvenir & you'll like it!

It was the most perfect of days.
Full of fairy-tale romance & perfect moments. You've never seen a couple more in love than Dunja & Rob, and it was a joy to share in their day.
-
My dearest Dunja and Rob, may the home you make today within each other's hearts prove to be a haven from life's storms and a constant source of joy, love and support!
This is an imperfect world, but we are allowed little moments of absolute perfection, like the two of you meeting and falling in love!
I wish you the happiest of wedding days, and a glorious future together!
All my love,
Donna (and family!)
-
Dunja sweetest, I am so sorry to be late in celebrating your day, but honestly, do you have any idea how much is involved in packing a big, gooey chocolate birthday cake?
What a mess!
I might as well show you the "before" picture......once those baggage handlers are through with it, it ain't gonna be pretty, even with all the bubble wrap I've used.....
Before:
Well, I guess we can scrape some of it off the bubble wrap at least.
See you soon!

just hangin' around in Valencia, Spain

Go Kyle go!
Ya gotta love an admin who knows how to play.
Great pictures.
