We don't have DNA here in Canada! I thought it was one of the better "quiet" episodes they've done. A tight focus on the Sopranos and the Baccalieris, lots of character development and maybe even a bit of foreshadowing with regards to Tony's RICO case. I've always seen the series ending with a life sentence for T, and I think that's where we're headed...

I couldn't disagree more. I think Fricke's love of YHF and music in general just powers out of that 40 gigawatt Cheshire cat smile of his in IATTBYH. Just because the guy comes on a little strong in video interviews doesn't necessarily mean he's full of himself.

Jeff slagged it as a "Coldplay song" in an interview at least once, but that's bullshit, says I. This version is ten times better than the motorik one that "graced" AGIB. http://download.yousendit.com/4674542047365095 I prefer the early 2002 versions of the song with the drum intro rather than the guitar intro, but I can't seem to find any handy MP3s of those. Dangit. This version from 09-04-2003 is absolutely spectacular, however. Jeff's skronky guitar throughout is just beautiful. I don't think they ever played this arrangement more than once, but I could be wrong.

Fricke is no Lester or Greil, but he's probably the last decent writer left at RS. Why are you so offended by his stuff when, if I had to choose just one word to describe his work, I'd probably tag it "inoffensive?" He writes some snooze-worthy shit, but is that really enough to label him a disgrace?

MASSEY HALL ON A FUCKIN' SATURDAY. Today is a good day.

There are no audio files. Sorry!

What a tortured soul! He hates loving Wilco. Or maybe he loves hating them. After reading his post, I'm really not sure what point he was trying to make.

Congratulations! You win!

Dylan, Waits and Costello, likely.

The arrangements and production on that record are friggin' amazing. "The Wild..." has always sounded like summer on a packed bar patio in a resort town to my ears. Purely in terms of how it sounds, it's my favourite Springsteen album.

Soon to be a movie starring Tommy Lee Jones that will (hopefully) rejuvenate the Coen Brothers' badly stalled film career! McCarthy + Joel Coen = holy shit. I can't wait for this one.

It's been a great year so far. I really like the new ones by Arcade Fire, Of Montreal, Wilco, Feist, Ry Cooder, Son Volt and Bill Callahan.

For the record, I'm really not spoiling for a fight. I'm just sick and tired of being told, "Well, of course you don't appreciate it - you have to be intimately familiar with Memphis Minnie, for starters. And you have to be wearing a vermillion sweater while rubbing your tummy and patting your head to fully understand what Dylan was trying to accomplish with Modern Times..." As if context were the only key capable of unlocking a set of freshly minted songs. Even if that were the case, I think it's a pretty sorry prerequisite to being able to enjoy something. In my opinion, familiarity with Dyl

I hope this wasn't addressed to me (although I do seem to be the guy who slagged on Dylan's recent work the hardest in this thread). Because I assure you, I'm in no desperate need for a refresher course on how great Patton, Johnson, Boggs, Thornton, Hurt, Hopkins, Jefferson, Muddy or any of the blues giants were, and continue to be. My major beefs with Dylan's work began at the outset of the current decade, more or less. I'm one of the few Dylanphiles who rank Time Out of Mind among my top three Dylan records of all time, so I certainly have no quarrel with anything pre-dating Love & The

And you have the nerve to call yourself Elston Gunn! Nah, he's pretty damned hoarse these days. Modern Times was a fine example of how much his voice has deteriorated in recent years (to say nothing of his songwriting abilities, which are little more than uninspired pastiche-writing abilities these days), and the last time I saw him (over three years ago now) was a pretty wince-inducing experience. Still, the prospect of Bobby slinging the Strat again is enough to make me considering making the trek to either Buff or Toronto when North American tour dates are announced. If he doesn't play

D'oh. I really should've included Costello on my list. I always forget at least one "heavy" whenever these list things come up...

I just finished listening to New York a few minutes ago, and these great lines reminded me of why I won't ever have/hate kids: "It might be fun to have a kid that I could kick around Create in my own image like a god I'd raise my own pallbearers to carry me to my grave And keep me company when I'm a wizened toothless clod Some gibbering old fool sitting all alone drooling on his shirt Some senile old fart playing in the dirt" My other favourite lyricists are Dylan, Waits, Joni, Jim White, Lucinda Williams and Woody. I ain't a-gonna quote 'em all!

Wow, and people used to think I was the board's resident asshole. There are at least two challengers to my throne in this thread (and elsewhere, I've been noticing). Anyway, great song, very heartfelt. I've seen it live just once, as the final encore, and it was the best finish to any Wilco show I've attended. A li'l ol' spotlight on Jeff as he emoted to his heart's content. -
Yeah, those threads are a tremendous resource for downloaders. I'd recommend avoiding the rest of the boards, though, since it's basically an idiot farm used in the breeding of ad hominem attacks. Pretty lame place.

Yes, I've heard this too. From you. Just now. I love how blatantly unfounded this rumour seems to be. Dude, at least make up a source-! "A friend of a friend knows Chris Shaw, and he said he was talking to Tweedy two weeks ago &c."

Hey, at least it's a step up from Okemah. That's probably the single worst design I've ever seen, and I'm a dude who designs CD artwork. Baby's First Photoshop, anyone?
