  1. I've heard both a proper advance and the leak, and the existing leak sounds fantastic. Honestly, you'd never know it wasn't a 192 rip to listen to it. (Down with audio snobbery!)
  2. Great album, great band, great news. Period.
  3. I'm just getting the Wilco show from last fall. "Coming soon" - Tweedy. Hmm.
  4. Here's a picture of me from the time I got stuck in Tron. It wasn't what you'd call a red-letter day.
  5. Pete Laughner is an unheralded legend and probably one of my top ten, all time rock guys. I've got plenty of boots. Drop me a PM if you're interested in any of them!
  6. Oh, and Your Cheatin' Heart, of course. Hank I!
  7. Elvis Costello's I Want You is phenomenal. So, so angry and spiteful.
  8. I totally missed this thread 'til right now, but Pan's is one of the best movies I've seen in recent years. Stunningly imagined, and I was reminded as I watched it of a reviewer who wrote that he was pleased it had the "guts to be a tragedy." That about hits the nail on the head. P.S., Mike Mignola should be made a fucking saint.

  10. Yeah, better to name it after an actor. Because, you know, that makes sense. Completely. My thoughts exactly. There's certainly precedent one could cite for naming a record after a lyric rather than a song title. I like Sky Blue Sky as an album title.
  11. Ha ha, I thought the exact same thing. I guess some people really can sleep through an earthquake...
  12. Outtasite (which made me take notice 11 years ago), Monday (which made me buy Being There), and I Can't Stand It. If we count college radio, most of YHF.
  13. Golden, Wordless Chorus, One Big Holiday, The Way That He Sings. Eliminate one of your choosing, since doing so is like Sophie's Choice for me. Amazing band!
  14. I think it's great. I liked the first record a bit, but I really enjoy this one. "Underwater (You and Me)" is one of the best straightahead pop songs to hit my ears in a while, and I like that Ounsworth is figuring out what he should be doing with his voice. "Yankee Go Home" is a hell of a track too, as is "Satan."
  15. Welland reprazent. I can't believe people are still crossing their fingers for an LZ reunion. Never. Gonna. Happen. It'd probably be fun, but come on.
  16. I'll be even more disappointed if they rechristen it "Sky Blue Sky" than if they end up calling TtMAB "Walken." Seriously, "Lullaby for Rafters and Beams" is a beautiful title for a beautiful song.
  17. IIRC, it started streaming from the official site in mid-September after it leaked in... July, maybe?
  18. Hey a'body, I downloaded a three-disc collection of Wilco rarities and singles a year or two ago, but I never bothered to label the tracks. I'm currently burning the set for a friend of mine, but it occurs to me that I can't identify a track from disc one. Sounds like the boys are playing sideman to another act that I think might be the Minus 5, but I can't seem to confirm that anywhere on the web. The lyrics go something like this: "Who'll be lookin' after you? Who'll be lookin' after you? When I'm up there, You're down here, Who'll be lookin' after you?" MP3, if it helps: http://downlo
  19. I don't know if anybody else reads Zoilus regularly, but for those who don't, here's an absolutely unbelievable YouTube clip that Carl posted dating to UT's pre-recording artist days. There's a brief interview with Jeff before the band does an incredible job of tearing through Graveyard Shift and Factory Belt. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Br8efx6-q94&eurl=
  20. And a song named "Cold Shoulder." Veddy interesting.
  21. I love Eels. That said, I am completely unable to listen to "Things the Grandchildren Should Know." I know I run the risk of revealing too much about myself by saying this, but it basically describes my life to a perfect t. I was paralyzed the first time I heard it. It's as if E looted my brain for that fucking thing.
  22. Songs are just like anything. It's fun to watch 'em grow. Forgive the hyperbole, but not listening to the live versions and waiting it out for the studio takes almost seems like being introduced to your child as an adult. The early years are really indispensible. But opinions will vary, of course.
  23. F' damn sure. One of my top three favourite Tweedy songs, ever.
  24. Backseat is pretty clearly the lyrical high point of TAF's short career to date. I like Regine a lot, and not just because she's adorable.
