  1. Anyone catch "Far, Far Away" in episode 3?
  2. I haven't seen him since the pre-Trouble/Trouble days when it was clear that he was very....fragile onstage...just felt painfully shy, like an open wound. I've heard that he's grown into a more detached performer and therefore, more standard. That said, you know crowds are always a roll of the dice and there's always the numbnut in any given crowd. Everyone stood at those shows.
  3. So I know some on here have heard the new album and I'm curious what your thoughts are?
  4. So what's the verdict on the new Ray Lamontagne?
  5. Just finished. Thought the book was really good. Kind of reminded me of a more masculine (i.e. "the story of brothers") "Poisonwood Bible" with baseball standing in for Africa. Some brutal themes in there that tear at you and yet the book leaves you full of hope and optimism.
  6. First single. Take a listen: http://themountaintempo.blogspot.com/2008/...best-thing.html I like. I like...very much.
  7. Couldn't agree more. I nearly walked out on their show at the 9:30 club in D.C....and I think "Another One Goes By" is a great song. It's a cover of the band Mazarin, though isn't it? However, I trust the ears here and I'll give the new one an open-minded listen.
  8. Call me crazy, but I thought it was going to be different this time. There was no Bono-ism cliques this time around. They got down to business and we heard nothing until the album was "Finished" or "in-the-can"--this was promising. Word spread via producers that the album was complete (as we all know to take what the band members say about release dates with a grain of salt)...Call me a sucker. Today from U2.com: 03.09.2008 'We want 2009 to be our year' 'We
  9. Bad news for U2 fans. Looks like, in typical U2 fashion, the album is delayed until early 2009.
  10. So, now I'm reading this kidsmoke...thanks for the suggestion.
  11. To go along with some others, make sure to spend the extra couple of hundred bucks for a sewer inspection (does not come with the standard inspection)...and you even get a DVD copy. Other than that...remember that at this moment in time...the buyer has the majority of the power in negotiations (in most parts of the country) so don't be afraid to negotiate. I would also advise, getting quotes from at least 3 lenders, having them set all the "good faith estimates" in writing and then settle on someone who you trust. The trust thing, I think is huge, because you are spending more money then
  12. I watched this in high school and it completely freaked me out. Couldn't sleep with the blinds open for a long, long time. Freaking Mona from "Who's the Boss"...completely ruined that show for me.
  13. Perhaps my favorite Bob Dylan song: Mama, You Been On My Mind Perhaps it's the color of the sun cut flat An' cov'rin' the crossroads I'm standing at, Or maybe it's the weather or something like that, But mama, you been on my mind. I don't mean trouble, please don't put me down or get upset, I am not pleadin' or sayin', "I can't forget." I do not walk the floor bowed down an' bent, but yet, Mama, you been on my mind. Even though my mind is hazy an' my thoughts they might be narrow, Where you been don't bother me nor bring me down in sorrow. It don't even matter to me where you're wakin'
  14. The opening scene of "SuperTroopers" can consistently bring me to hillarious tears...and I'm not going to apologize for it. The quitting scene from "Joe vs. the Volcano" -- a seriously under-appreciated movie.
  15. Clearly you've never worn a mustache to a wedding just to spite the bride.
  16. I used to go watch Brandi play at this little bar and grill called The Paragon, in Seattle, every Sunday. We'd just nurse a beer and watch her play for 2 and a 1/2 hours....covers galore....requests from the audience and, in addition to the songs from her first two albums, many more originals that have yet to see the light of day on her official releases. When I compare that image in my head (young woman playing for dinner in a small restaurant) to the image of the new nationwide GM commercial she's lent her song to, I have a hard time squaring up the two. Crazy. That being said, on Friday
  17. This happens with every album. The last album, horrible sounding clips popped out from Bono's beach house as they were playing the album loud for the REM boys, who they were hosting. I don't think it's deliberate or a marketing strategy, I just think Bono doesn't care. There is a distinction between U2's management and the actual band members, who have often come out in support of file sharing. Bono has been known to pick up fans hanging outside the studio (either inviting them into the studio or driving them back to town), and play new recordings for them...or just open up the studi
  18. I suppose I'm coming at it from the exact opposite angle. I really enjoyed her last two because I felt they served the melody and song more than her earlier work. I feel like as she's grown in confidence (read: getting sober) her performances on record have become stronger and stronger. Maybe I have fondness for melody or the pop-song structure, but I think she's really coming into her own and grown as an artist. If you compare both the Covers Records it feels like she used to be stubbornly abstract with her interpretations, almost confrontational, and that has its place, but sometimes you
  19. According to her myspace page, Chan Marshall's new EP will come out in September...rumored to be the album she's had in the can for a while entitled 'Sun'...talked about in this older Spin article, around the time 'The Greatest' came out: Can you tell me about Sun, the album that's due after your next covers album? It will come out in spring of 2008. I'm producing it. One song is called "Leopard," I used to sing it when I was 26. There's another song, a spiritual song called "Mountaintops." And there's a really sweet song called "Funny Things" that's like a little kid's tap-dance song about
  20. Not to rain on the parade here, but there is an amazing documentary/piece done by Bill Moyers that traces all of this lead up to the Iraq war called "Buying the War"...required viewing...you may watch here: http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/btw/watch.html Now, back to the funny. Nipples.
  21. This is some cool s#$t: http://www.liveauctioneers.com/catalog/16511/page1 If I could have just one thing on that list..... probably Jack Nicholson's 'The Shining' axe... ...or the Spaceballs Winne, not sure which.
  22. Definitely let me know if you happen to get this information as I would be really curious to know how all that went down.
