Oh, it's certainly true that a great many problems in many struggling nations are due to their own government's corruption, incompetence, etc.. But from the perspective of what our country can do, well, we have more control over our own actions than we do over the actions of other nations, especially now that our standing in the world has been diminished to such a great extent. From a practical standpoint, we simply can do more by changing our own actions than by trying to force changes in others.

I like power pop just fine, but Brendan Benson's solo stuff is nothing special at all.

Congratulations to the Kansas City Royals for their fourth place finish in '08.

I have Joe Blanton in my head-to-head league. I don't really care about that league as much as my roto league, but Blanton was a guy who I came really close to dropping a week ago, then he had a great start, so I was giving him one more chance. Tonight he pitched absolutely great, but still lost because Schilling was pitching out of his gourd. Big bummer.

I will refrain from commenting, as I spent about 4 innings of Mark Buerhle's no-hitter sending IMs to Kate that said "NO HITTER NO HITTER NO HITTER NO HITTER".

And over the last couple albums he's also added marimba and mandolin as well. They have a lot of different directions they can go in the studio. And one of the more exciting aspects of their live show is hearing stripped down versions of songs where he played several instruments on the album, especially when he switches between instruments mid-song

I know the Raconteurs have only done one album so far, but so far the White Stripes have managed to cover more territory on each and everyone one of their albums than the Raconteurs did on theirs. And I do like that Raconteurs album, but's all pretty standard guitar rock/pop.

1/3 of the way through the season, so what the hell, let's hear some 1/3-of-the-way through the season awards. AL MVP: Magglio Ordonez. Will probably be A-Rod by the end of the year, as right now it's close, but Maggs is playing even more over his head than A-Rod is. AL Cy Young: Dan Haren, although if Johan has an unbelievable second half, as he seems to do every year, then he probably gets it. AL Rookie of the Year: Dustin Pedroia NL MVP: Prince Fielder. Good cases can also be made for Chipper Jones and (*sigh*) Barry Bonds. NL Cy Young: Jake Peavy. He's really the only choice thus f

Best solution: stop raping the economies of other countries. If other countries weren't so desperately poor by comparison, then people wouldn't be so eager to come here by any means necessary to get here.

I'm holding out for the release. Might be different if it leaked earlier, but I'm really excited for the album, and the release isn't too far away at this point.

But is sex wrong? Personally I think it's not, and therefore by your own metaphor, there's nothing wrong with licensing a song for a commercial. Just because you don't have to doesn't mean there's anything wrong with doing it. I'm still enjoying this thread way too much.

Delgado has a career OBP of .387. Pretty good for a slugger.

Currently in 1st of 8 in my main roto league, with an 11 point lead. 4th place out of 10 in my head-to-head league, although 1-9 are all bunched pretty closely together. I was in 8th going into last week. In this morning's Redeye, there's a letter from a fan who suggests that Thome and Dye should bunt sometimes, to shake up defenses. I think it was written by a real person.
