  1. It looks like the WWE is feeling some heat over the fact that they aired a 3 hour tribute to him last night. Of course at the time, very few details were confirmed, but I obviously understand why they're being criticized for showing such an extensive tribute to a man who killed his wife and son. At the same time, I'm not really sure what they could have done that would have been better. They couldn't have gone on with their regular Monday Night RAW card (including the fake memorial service for Vince McMahon). They had to acknowledge that this had happened somehow. Not to defend them too s
  2. Todd Jones is just killing me. I was weary before, but I'm sort of hoping that they pull the trigger on the rumored trade for Eric Gagne.
  3. Of course when things like this happen, we all ask why. But I think I will worry about myself very deeply when the day comes where I hear an explanation for something like this that makes sense to me. Obviously the guy was out of his mind when he did it, whether it was due to steroids, mental illness, just being a generally bad guy, or some combination of things. As much as we'd all like to know why things like this happen (whether it's to prevent things like it from happening again, or just to feel our own personal peace with it), I really don't think we'll ever really understand actions
  4. Wrestling is fake? Holy shit! I feel so naive.
  5. TMZ is reporting that Benoit killed the wife first on Saturday, then was text messaging people during the WWE Vengeance PPV (which he was probably watching with his son), before killing the son on Sunday and then himself on Monday.
  6. Sure, Scott. Chris Benoit (long time professional wrestler), his wife, and their seven year old son were all found dead in their home today. There still isn't much info coming out, but it seems to be a murder-suicide, although they haven't said anything about how they died other than that there are no gunshot wounds, and apparently last night Benoit told the WWE corporate types that he could not wrestle tonight due to a "family emergency."
  7. In light of the fact that their recent storyline was built around McMahon's "death", I was concerned that they would handle this poorly. In the past, the WWF/WWE has done a very poor job of even acknowledging the tragedies that have befallen its wrestlers (of which there are many -- there are an incredible number of professional wrestlers who have died young and tragically over the years), let alone giving any sort of proper tribute. It was good that they pulled back the curtain tonight and recognized this for what it was, rather than doing what would be more convenient for the storyline the
  8. I have Bay on my roto team. He's been really streaky all year. If you wait it out, he'll go on a three week tear again before sucking again for another three weeks. I think that's just how his season is going to be. I hate to bench a player like him, but lately I have started to be mindful of matchups and recent performance, whereas typically Bay should be an every day fantasy player. Curtis Granderson has been a more reliable guy in my third outfield slot so far this year.
  9. My lead in my roto (money) league has dwindled, but I'm still holding on. And somehow my head-to-head team has gotten hot and risen from 9th to 1st in just a couple weeks, even though I haven't really gotten a better handle on the craziness of managing in this league (it's 10 x 10, so it's just way too many categories to try to plan around, but apparently there's a big luck aspect to it too).
  10. I saw the Pixies at the Aragon and thought it was fine, other than being really hot. Tickets went on sale when I was out of town so I missed out. :-/ So angry. I've caught them at least once on every tour since 2001. It's not looking good this time around though.
  11. There's a cool interview up on Pitchfork today.
  12. But did you know that they had that nifty new logo?
  13. So in the last few days, the Tigers have traded Wil Ledezma to Atlanta and Mike Maroth to St. Louis. And made Andrew Miller (last year's #1 draft pick) a permanent member of the rotation. And Kenny Rogers and Nate Robertson are back. And Chad Durbin was moved to the bullpen. Their pitching is almost completely different than it was one week ago.
  14. Why wouldn't the Bulls want Kobe Bryant? He's the best player in the NBA. Of course it has to be the right deal, and they don't want to give up too much, but writing off a deal for Bryant all together would be stupid. If they put out the starting lineup that Jorge just posted, they would be the best team in the East. Of course they will be weary of giving up too much of their future, but if they have a chance to win now, why wouldn't they take it?
  15. Almost done with my first listen. I'm likin' it.
  16. Heading to Colorado tomorrow morning until Sunday. That's probably it, except for maybe some weekend trips to Detroit. And that's not really a vacation.
  17. this thread is crumbelievable
  18. that's pretty much the coolest thing ever
  19. Oh, not that I don't have faith in a new Meat Puppets album, more that I've just lost some interest in listening to them as compared to a few years ago. Also, I forgot that they had a new one coming out that fast or else I probably would have listed 'em.
  20. The White Stripes Blanche Robert Pollard Interpol The Go The Avalanches (assuming it actually comes out) Radiohead The Mars Volta The Pixies (assuming it actually comes out)
