The official explanation is sometimes bullshit, but in that instance, the official explanation was that they came down harder on the players who actually went into the stands and fought the fans. That seems perfectly reasonable to me. Do you really think that Ben Wallace, who overreacted by shoving Ron Artest, deserved to be punished as much as Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson, who attacked fans in the stands? I know it was debated around here at the time, so I'm not going to get too wound up about it now, but I didn't realize that this was a viewpoint that was out there right now. Anyway,

Actually I was at the game, and I think it may have been me and my friends that you're talking about.

Everyone knows that the worst baseball fans are as follows: 1. Yankees 2. Red Sox 3. Phillies 4. Cubs 5. Mets Best fans: 1. Tigers That is all.

I agree with all of that, except for the apparent defense of HR (who was a complete idiot). The Steve Phillips bit is especially on target.

The world I used to be afraid of doesn't scare me anymore 'Cause I know the things that matter are behind another door This world will keep on turning and the stars will aways shine And I started living on that night your heart became all mine The first time I saw your big brown eyes and long red hair To have you give your heart to me became my only prayer When I gave you mine, you just used it for a while And then you clutched on to another and dropped me in your file You never gave my heart back, so my love you must have felt Still I went crazy waiting for your stubborn heart to melt You

The Pistons and Spurs are my two favorite teams. Well, the Pistons are my team anyway, and I feel like I have to respect the Spurs because they play a similar game (although with some distinct differences -- the Spurs are certainly the Western Conference team most similar to the Pistons though). I won't dispute that the Pistons got some calls in that last game, but as tunedtochords said, that will never get called when it may tilt a playoff game. It's not team favoritism, but simply the league's refusal to call a foul that may tip an important game. It's still not really a fair applicatio

Care to back that up at all?

Mike Brown agrees with you.

Jack's wearing the old school De Stijl/WBC era red in the video. Awesome.

That's fair. My point was just that it's not as if the Pistons won due to the officiating, which is what I assumed you meant when you called it bullshit, since that's the way that call would typically go. But yeah, I would agree that officiating is far too dependent on home/road dynamics as well as star power throughout the league.
-
Pardon me, but do you watch the NBA playoffs? That's how those calls go.
-
It was the type of play that could go either way as far as the foul call goes. Considering the game was in Auburn Hills, it's not going to get called 7 out of 10 times. Both games in this series have ended with the same score. I think the Pistons are going to lose badly in the first game in Cleveland, but will win the series in 6 or 7. The Cavs are much tougher than I expected them to be before the series started.

It's glowing right now.

Er, burned DVD.

Kate gave me the DVD a month and a half ago and I still haven't watched it.

The Minutemen, on shuffle.

The fact that two of the major networks still have not reported on that hospital visit shows how led astray the mainstream media is as well. One would think that the White House trying to skirt the law by ambushing a heavily medicated post-op AG would be bigger news.

"On and On and On" is truthfully the only one that I dig from start to finish.

It's been said that in baseball, winning creates team chemistry, not vice versa. It may be an oversimplification, but I think there's some truth to it, too.
-
Obviously the Daily Show shouldn't be a person's primary news source, but there are some instances where they have done a better job of explaining the issues than the mainstream media ever does.

I think that clubhouse atmosphere can conceiveably make a difference sometimes, but I think it's a small one, and I don't really see much happening there that wasn't the case for them last year as well when they had the best record in baseball.

I've dug around online for some info, and can't find out anything other than that a lot of other people are annoyed by it.
