I suppose there's no way around it with 8 candidates, but the 1-minute answer format is pretty useless, IMO. Candidates are either forced to try to speak in soundbytes the entire time, or they start an answer that there's no chance of getting to the end of before time runs out. I find it hard to learn anything about any of them in that format.

I've heard bagpipes referenced for some other songs, but not this one. I still haven't heard it, so I can't judge for myself, but I can believe it's a bagpipe, I can believe it is a guitar, but there is no way chance that it is a synth. I am certain of this without hearing it.

Glenn Greenwald at Salon.com has done a pretty good job recently of showing how a lot of the people most responsible for completely failing in how they covered the run up to the war are now completely denying any sort of fault. Sad.

So I rushed home from work so I could catch the Sox/Tigers. I guess it was delayed a bit anyway due to rain, but I initially was confused as I turned to ESPN, which the digital cable told me was showing the game, only to see the Nationals and Phillies play. A bit later I realized there was a local broadcast, and that's why ESPN was showing a different game. Anyway, it got me thinking...Joe Morgan or Hawk Harrelson? Both are horrible, but who is worse? I really despise them both, although if it came down to it, I guess I'd rather have to listen to Joe Morgan. He is willfully and proudly

Damn, I can't wait to get home and give this a listen. Awesome.

Now over there in Managua Square With American-made bombs falling everywhere They kill women and children and animals too These bombs are made by people like me and you And we're told that we hold a big stick over them But I know from what I've read that peace is in our hands Now over there in Guatamala, my friend We're making mistakes there once again Uncle Sam supports a fascist regime That doesn't represent the people over there We learn and believe there is justice for us all And we lie to ourselves with a big stick up our ass Now if we stand and yell it out That war isn't what we're a

For some reason, in baseball teams seem to enjoy being the spoiler a lot more, and don't tank games late in the year the way they do in other sports, but yeah, I guess that that can't really be assumed to happen all the time though so the rule may be necessary. I wonder how this rule would be applied, though, if Hunter had said that he was giving them gifts just because they're his friends, rather than saying outright that it was a reward for sweeping that series.
-
I'm not sure I understand how it would be a bribe. It's more of a bonus as far as I can tell. It may be a bribe if he was rewarding them for losing, but they should be trying to win every game anyway. Although it just occured to me that this rule could be in place to prevent any sort of alternate explanations for paying gambling debts. In which case it all fits right into place with other MLB policies.

That's shitty. What did they expect of him? The guy can't win a championship if the only talented players on his team are constantly suspended. I suppose one could make the argument that he did a poor job of keeping the team focused and disciplined, but I'm inclined to think that some of the big problem guys he's had are just bad apples. I hope someone else picks him up soon. He's a good coach.

Sounds like a stupid rule, although he probably should have read up on that before going through with it.

How I remember the history I have seen I was just a young boy, the horror I couldn't forsee All the pain that comes with war All the scars that never heal Here in paradise the price is cheap Young men die for greed Across the ocean in a land they call Vietnam Young men dying is all it would cost We were told and proudly believed They would fight to keep us free Here in America the price is cheap Young men die for what? My brother, the soldier, was a hero who survived He'd tell the stories of men who died without dreams And they fight for men twice their age The smell of death made his life
