Gonna be out of town for a long weekend. My flight lands back at O'Hare at 7:40. I live within walking distance to the Hideout though, so I might check this out after I get home, depending on how tired I am.

Hey, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Derek Jeter also been on the 6 consecutive Yankee teams that have not won a World Series? Why does winning a World Series 7 years ago excuse him from having to produce in the postseason now? Is Juan Uribe better than A-Rod?

I get so worked up defending A-Rod even though I hate him. I really don't know why I let the unfair A-Rod criticism bother me so much.

It's pretty arguable how much he wanted to "be the man in New York". He certainly never said anything like that. Texas decided they couldn't afford him anymore, and he agreed to let them trade him. Only one team in all of baseball could afford his contract (and the union wouldn't let him re-structure for someone else), and so that is where he went. Regardless, he's not the only player on the Yankees. And yet pretty much all of the blame for not winning the WS are placed on A-Rod. That's the unfair part. Sure, criticize him for his play or lack of play when it counts, but why is he the onl

But he does produce. Either way, I think it's silly to cite anyway. I guess I can see why people do, but...was he supposed to turn down the gigantic contract that was offered to him? Also, he actually agreed to have the terms of the contract reduced and the MLBPA wouldn't let him. Anyway, I know you're not the one making the argument, but, well, I just think it's a bad argument.

Why do New York fans and media care about what the Rangers are paying A-Rod?

I'm talking about what the Yankees are paying him, not overall salary. Texas pays a big chunk of A-Rod's pay.

Personally I think the easiest way to get to the festival from Wrigley Field is probably to walk to Ashland (about a half mile from the ballpark -- maybe a little more) and then take the #9 Ashland bus, which will drop you off right in front of the park. I've noticed that out-of-towners tend to be more intimidated by the bus system than the train system, but I think it's worth it to save the trouble of transferring. Either way you're going to be in a mob of people when you leave the game, and then entering another mob of people when you get to the festival.

I wouldn't disagree that he's been bad in the last couple post-seasons. I just think that way too much of the blame was placed on him, when in fact pretty much the entire team has been terrible in the post-season (and before A-Rod's salary is brought up as justification, Jason Giambi went 1-for-8 in last year's ALDS, and the Yankees pay him a lot more than they pay A-Rod) , and also that it's unfair to lay that kind of reputation on a guy based on such a tiny sample size.

A-Rod actually has pretty decent (not bad, not great) post-season numbers over his whole career. His reputation as a post-season choker is largely exaggerated. Not only has he been good as often as he's been bad in the post-season, but in the years that he was bad, the whole team was often bad (ignoring the fact that it's hard to really make big generalizations about how someone's post-season is when it consists of 14 at-bats -- players have 0-for-14 runs all the time), and yet A-Rod has been given 100% of the blame. Zumaya has been crap so far this year. Maybe once he's healthy again, he'll be able to find the strikezone. The Yanks have a fine chance of winning the World Series this year. But I hate them, and therefore cannot applaud this move.

This pisses me off, although I feel optimistic that Clemens will be injured within moments of putting on the Yankee uniform. It's just how the universe works.

I have to admit, I feel pretty good about the way the first half of this game went.

I held out for a while, then caved. I'm glad that I did though, because I really don't like the album all that much, and if I'd let the excitement build up too much I would have been even more disappointed. Here's to the next one being more up my alley.

The Pistons were 12 games better than the Heat in the regular season last year. They dominated the East for the whole year. They were 37-4 at home, and had home court advantage throughout the Eastern playoffs. So yes, at the time, the Eastern Conference championship seemed certain. I owned up to that mistake last year, no need to still be so sensitive about it now. That being said, if the Pistons had prepared better for the Cavs last year, they probably still would have had enough left in the tank to beat the Heat. So there!

It's a good picture is all. I don't think the regular season series means much of anything. But the Bulls are a good team and they're playing well, and they definately could win. Anyone calling for a sweep (for either team) is crazy though. And most of us Pistons fans learned our lesson about being too cocky last year, I think. I guess there are still some who didn't get the message though. Last year seemed like much more of a sure thing than this year.
