  1. Jagermeister and Cherry Coke. 'Tis the greatest drink in the history of drinks.
  2. I hate that. Splitting it over two discs was one of the best things about that last round of re-issues. I hate it when they just tack bonus tracks onto there, because if it's an album I've never heard before, it makes it really hard to get a sense of what the real album feels like, and to be able to separate the bonus tracks from the album. Know what I mean? Does that make sense?
  3. Probably. It turns out that my dad and step-mom will be in town that weekend. They aren't staying with me (they'll be out with my aunt and uncle in Highland Park). I think that I won't be seeing them until Saturday, but there's a chance they'll want to do something Friday night. Of all the weekends for them to make their first visit since I moved here, it had to be Tigers/Sox weekend. I should still be able to make it though.
  4. I really can't imagine how they could possibly improve on the 2-disc reissues that just came out a couple years ago.
  5. I think the big problem with proving the existence or non-existence of clutch hitting is that for any given player, the sample size is going to be relatively small, even over the course of an entire career. But if it does exist for anyone, Papi is probably the most obvious case among current players. Some of it could be a self-fulfilling sort of thing though--at least among inexperienced pitchers, Ortiz's reputation as a clutch guy could cause them to make a mistake...also, having Manny Ramirez hitting behind him sure doesn't hurt. I'm inclined to think that some guys do perform differentl
  6. Interestingly, the clutch hitting thing is something that the sabermatricians have never really reached a concensus on. Bill James's response to the question "Does clutch hitting exist?" has always been "maybe". Basically, almost every hitter ever has put up nearly identical stats in "clutch" situations as they have in any other situation. I think that, in all likelihood, the vast majority of players do not perform any differently in those situations than they do otherwise, but it certainly seems possible that certain players do.
  7. Billy Zoom wishes you a very creepy happy birthday! And some slightly less creepy birthday wishes from me...
  8. Hey, it's not my fault that traditional baseball stats are inadaquate in evaluating players. Football is a sport where the right stats to use are a little more obvious, and the traditional ones are a little more spot on.
  9. Yeah, there will be an NFL thread for sure. Won't be as fun as this one though!
  10. I wouldn't be so sure. I think he may be completely done. Not only are there a lot of Jews in Hollywood, but there are also a lot of people who simply will want nothing to do with him because of this regardless of their religion. The Passion of the Christ was successful without much support from Hollywood, but it had a built-in audience already because of it's subject matter. I don't see him pulling it off again.
  11. Yeah, Ortiz is the last guy you want at the plate at that point if you're a pitcher, but intentionally putting the winning run on base is always a no-no.
  12. I refuse to believe that you two grew up on streets called Drummer or Icehouse. But I wish you did.
  13. Got a few street names to choose from: Russell Columbia Russell Talbot Russell Labelle I didn't live on Labelle until I was 15, but I think that's the most porn-y. The second is probably the most Golden Smog-esque though.

  15. Yeah, that X. Original line-up too. John Doe, Exene, DJ Bonebrake and the one and only Billy Zoom. They've been back together for a while, but only to play maybe a half dozen to a dozen shows a year on the west coast. This year they're finally branching out east a little bit on tour with Rollins Band. I'm seeing them on August 13th at the House of Blues in Chicago. Rumor has it they're actually working on an album too.
  16. My ticket just arrived to see X in two weeks! Has anyone here seen them? What sort of show am I getting myself into here. Oh man I'm so excited.
  17. Also, this was just the non-waiver trading deadline. Players can still be traded and be eligible for the post-season until the end of August, so long as they are put on waivers first. And most of the big names being thrown around have contracts that are too huge for most teams to pick up from the waiver wire.
  18. Sanchez is good, but I really don't see the Mets' playoff position in any sort of trouble because of this.
  19. Sean Casey to the Tigers. Not exactly a blockbuster move, but he's an improvement over Shelton, who is headed back to Toledo (how's that for a change from the beginning of the year, when Shelton was the cat's pajamas?). The Tigers didn't give up much either, so I say it's a good move.
