  1. Thanks! Been meaning to look for this. Can't wait to listen. I'd love to see Frisell sit in with the Dead.
  2. Yeah, I bet it's going to be some incarnation with maybe just Bob and Mickey. Probably Jeff and the Ratdog bass player.
  3. Absolutely Barry Sless! That would rock. Imagine if they'd been touring with the same line up of and on for the last 20 years. This really would be something to see. Finnegan would be good, but please don't let him sing. He's a cheese ball! :-) BTW, that Althea Weir did with Meyer was pretty bad. Like really bad. Wrong notes etc. Comments were hilarious though...Scarlet>Body Is a Wonderland>Fire!
  4. This is what I mean about the boys truly losing their spiritual leader when Jerry died. They all have been doing their own things with varying degrees of success. However, it would have been great if the boys had just found another colleague rather than hire lead guitar players here and there for under-rehearsed tours. Maybe if Hornsby had stayed as the musical director and they'd gotten a clean, yet original guitar player a la Steve Kimock that was interesting on his own rather than a Jerry clone. Just rambling. I think it's just hype and kind of shitty that they marketed this final Gra
  5. Isn't that always the speculation : p I'd like to hear Farewell to Kings and at least some of Hemispheres. Not sure I see this one. Saw them on Hold Your Fire and Presto then on the Time Machine tour which was incredible. Also saw them on the last tour with the string section. Snooze fest.
  6. Neil Young I Am A Child Here We Are In The Years Out On The Weekend LA Lost In Space
  7. Picked this up when it was released. Finally getting into it. Saw some of the live stuff and it knocked me out. Right now I'm digesting the first disc. I totally hate the first tune (Please Don't Let Me...) so I dropped it and put I'll Sing It in for the opener. Totally works, especially with the Nobody Dies album closer. On the whole album is a little under produced, but some songs are real classics. World Away, High As Hello and Low Key being some. On to the second disc!
  8. Don't forget the EP Halfway to a Threeway. That and Insignificance are stellar! Looking forward to this new one. The Visitor was interesting.
  9. It's interesting how Phil sung all the high harmonies before Donna came along. I too enjoyed his songs he did with the Dead. Always a great first set when Phil sang. I do not like him singing so much with 'the friends' though. I guess it's a necessity, but it's too much. That's why I hope to god that they let Bruce sing the Jerry tunes at Fare Thee Well. Maybe let Trey sing a few, but Bruce really does justice to 'em and I love his interpretation.
  10. The more I think about this, the more I see the 50th as just hype. It's not like these dudes have never played before together in any combination since Jerry died. It's also not like Trey has never played with them. The hype really seems to be selling it and the marketing is genius with all these articles on mail ordering and getting us all talking about webcasts. Not to mention the whole, 'this is the end of the long strange trip' (with a wink of course). Interesting times.
  11. He says out right that he's not planning on soloing and that there is too much of it in the jamband scene. Also, he notes that Weir says that they probably won't know what they're playing until 5 minutes before showtime. This does not bode well for the shows.
  12. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2gwqeyUT1o&index=1&list=PLT0jwuBZz-7IRdE0cKtCi89SLczmjHaNw Stanley Jordan with Phil. This dude rocks. He should do the 50th. Of course, JK is great!
  13. This has been an issue for me since the advent of digital. In one sense, it's cool that EVERYTHING is available on the web. On the other hand, it's overwhelming and in a sense has devalued music…at least for me. When it was just vinyl and then CDs, I had to save up and really think about what I was getting. With that mindset, I only bought shit I really really liked, or had great potential of getting into. Now, it seems that nothing is worth 'getting into' it's all there for the taking and has just left me cold. It's all a trade off. The last few years I've hemmed and hawed over gett
  14. Of course JK takes most of the solos. Trey dicks around constantly looking at Bob to see what's going on. No real solos from him. Not to mention his complete flub of Casey Jones solo.
  15. http://www.jambands.com/news/2015/01/30/wall-street-journal-columnist-disses-the-grateful-dead/ Probably shouldn't post this given how stupid it is. Great example of how stellar 'fair and balanced' journalism is today. We've come so far. Incidentally, been listening to the Almost Acoustic set. So damn great. Wonder if there is any video from that run.
  16. Ha! I like Gilmour no matter what the setting, and Division Bell wasn't that bad. We'll see though. I read that Gilmour has a solo album on the way, so that might be something L-)
  17. I really liked the first two Chris Robinson Brotherhood records. The third was not the same and their live stuff is pretty bad. Floyd also ruined me. How much better does it get than Animals and WYWH? That said, I do need to check out the new Floyd Album. I like some DBT, but not much. Can't think of much else. We are definitely a tough crowd. I do really love Pat Metheny, but some might dismiss him as a cheese ball. Some good stuff there.
  18. They have been playing, but nothing has really taken off. I just see them all as kind of losing their way. At the same time, they have been active and others might see it as the opposite. However, really pulling something together and being a force like the Dead were died with Garcia. That's my point.
  19. The boys have been lost since Jerry died. He was their spiritual and musical leader…probably begrudgingly.
  20. Couldn't agree more! For the record, Trey does still play really well, just not what I'm into these days. Definitely taste and expectations play a big roll.
  21. I agree with these points. Trey is the shit! There was nothing like a Phish show in the first third of the 90s. Trey is capable, no doubt. If it was clear that Trey was gonna nail Help on the Way the way he nailed Rift circa 1992 then I'd be there for sure. Alas, I think it's going to be one of those 'lets just jam and see what happens'. Not to mention the other elements that I'm too old to deal with. Shit show is definitely possible. Now, if things go well and they do an official release of the shows, then that'll be a nice surprise :-)
