  1. it's really surprising that belew is not out on this tour given that he's been touring crimson material with the crimson project. they even put an album out.
  2. i haven't seen them live, but the videos i've seen aren't that amazing. i do absolutely love the records. they're trying to be a jamband, but none of them have the chops for it. i thought about going to the local rat dog CRB gig in august, but that would be two bands dragging along :-)
  3. Neil Young-Trans (of course he has lots of albums that don't fit) :-) I'd say Notorious Byrd Brothers is a bit more out of place than Sweetheart.
  4. i agree about Nels. they had some great potential when he joined the band, but nothing has really panned out. there's a reason AGIB and the loose fur records are killer…it's all Tweedy and and Kotche (of course O'Rourke has some say :-)
  5. yeah, patterson is the absolute real genuine deal. very kind and gracious.
  6. Very well put. I couldn't agree more. I have yet to dig deeper into Neal's earlier releases and had no idea about Hazy Malaze!
  7. those song titles look like classic tweedy. i'm just so psyched for this release. for some reason i wasn't really in the wilco mood when TWL came out, but i'm ripe for this release. really hope the tour continues in the fall and he hits atlanta.
  8. I saw him on the Into the Great Wide Open tour in 91. It was awesome. Full of hits of course as Full Moon Fever had come 2 years before. Lots of theatrics on stage. Chris Whitley opened up. Damn he was great! I saw Petty again on the Mojo tour. Got a cheap ticket for $20. Left early. Really wanted to hear the Mojo stuff live, but he just played the hits. Oh well. I can't think of a more consistent artist in the history of pop/rock than Tom petty. The songs have always been there…despite some production mis-steps in the 80s. The new one sounds like it's right in line.
  9. I do wonder who will sing. This might just be an experimental projekt type tour where they test new material and then play their classic instrumentals like Red and Larks II. I would miss hearing stuff from the Belew era. I really liked the last album Power to Believe.
  10. Sounds like classic Petty. I'm in!
  11. i see where everyone is coming from. i have a hard time not taking it seriously, which makes it an emotional roller coaster at times. i've tried to get into the offshoots, but nothing's really nailed it for me. 98 other ones were probably the best. i don't think warren ever fit with anything and herring just noodles. the boys haven't been able to find a guitarist who could play in garcia's spot. not be garcia, but play ripping solos and keep the energy up. if they could've found that and kept bruce then we'd have seen the dead actually continue evolving rather than these constant reiter
  12. i've listened to several shows and i'm still not sold. Kimock is much more interesting than Karan, but he's hardly there except for solos here and there. not to mention everything is so damn slow. i know that's the rat dog vibe..slow and bluesy without an outright soloist.
  13. @Shug- i get a bit of what you're saying. i'm a fair weather crowes fan, but i loved most of Before the Frost. Garden Gate is pretty bad. i like the CRB studio stuff best. they can't jam at all live and the shows i've heard are just kind of boring. i do love the original tunes best. i think chris is just moving on from the Faces/Stone's Crowes vibe. he said in interviews leading up to the first CRB album that it's unabashedly influenced by the 'bands we're into.' chris is a huge deadhead and so the direction he is going makes perfect sense. i've thought about seeing this CRB/Ratd
  14. i agree about CRB. i'm just so into them lately. i've not seen them live yet and wasn't too impressed with the betty boards, but damn of those studio albums aren't killer. excellent production and very good songwriting with enough mellow twists and turns to keep it interesting. i wasn't a huge fan of the earth mud stuff, but love how CRB does those tunes.
  15. That lead guitar player really really wants to be Dave Rawlings…it's kind of embarrassing.
  16. Animals is a perfect album. Love Dogs! Wish You Were Here is another, although, I could do without Welcome to the Machine. Those two albums are ones I never got sick of. Listen to them all the time, still.
  17. http://neilyoungnews.thrasherswheat.org Neil was on Fallon last night and recorded a tune in that booth he recorded A Letter Home in. I just find so damn ironic that for months Neil went on and on about sound quality and then puts out an album recorded in the most primitive way possible. Of course, you can get the ultra hi def vinyl version of this album so you can hear it in all it's shitty glory.
  18. blasphemy! i loved a brent tune in the first set. i think vinces tunes (originals and covers) would 've faired much better in the first set. Way to Go Home set one closer? that'd been cool. his tunes really messed up the flow of pre drums sometimes.
  19. I can't listen to them either. I totally wore out that double disc greatest hits collection.
  20. Well, Neil continues his recent trend of releasing a joke album before/after each serious album. A Letter Home is basically unlistenable. It's 'out there' if you're interested. I wish Neil would do a well produced album of obscure covers.
