  1. i hate thinking about all the shows i missed before i got on the bus. i picture myself sitting in my room bored when, little did i know, the boys were playing down the street! i wish i'd been in high school in the late 70s. not only the dead, but all the other bands/artists!!
  2. this sounds cool. i've not heard any of those 'older tunes' except 41 shots and tom joad. looking forward to this. i love when artists give us a peak into their creative process of how songs come about about, what's in the vaults and why. now, did the tune mary's place, from rising, used to be harry's place? incidentally, i live right down the street from o'brien's studio and when ever i drive past i'm wondering if bruce is in there dicking around. there's a private airport right here too, so i assume it's simple for him to fly in on his jet, recrod some stuff and be out in an afternoon
  3. Last night in Atlanta was great. Definitely a 'traveling revue' vibe. Most folks stood up, so we sat off to the side. Playing and harmonies were perfect. Loved hearing most of Rawlings album as well as a few Gillian numbers. Also loved hearing Dylan's Billy and Queen Jane as well as Long Black Veil and the Weight. With John Paul Jones they attempted Goin' to California. Not too bad. I wish they'd pull together a new album soon. Even covers would be great. They would do justice to any old trad tune, Dylan, Neil Young or even Wilco, for that matter.
  4. I might go see Ratdog in Atlanta. Haven't seen them for years. It was when Rob was in the band. Not sure about two bass players. I don't mind not having a sax player. I wish Ratdog would record again, that album they put out in 2000 was good. They've got the material.
  5. Okay man, you've convinced me. I'm going to check out those albums again. I saw them on the SHMC tour in '92. It was so damn loud :-). I was working at a record store when Amorica came out, so I got to hear it. It just didn't blow me away the way songs like Remedy did. I do love Wiser Time. I remember putting that on a mix tape. I am a Deadhead, so the CRB is really up my alley. If I had my way, Casal would be playing with Furthur, but I'm glad he's playing with Chris. Those two albums from a few years ago are great. Anyway, will be listening to Amorica and 3 Snakes tonight. Will
  6. Probably a late spring release. Looking forward to it. It will be interesting to see where they take it.
  7. This is kind of weird. No mention of this in the newsletters or almanac, unless i missed it. i'm definitely interested in this though. i really liked bob and rob.
  8. Bob, Cool story. Thanks. I've never been a huge Crowes fan. Really enjoyed SHMC, but kind of lost interest after that. I did come back around with the Cabin Fever project though. Maybe a bit curated, but damn those songs are good. I just love that album. I also love CRB. If the Crowes do record again, I hope it is in more of the country rock vein.
  9. I'll be at Atlanta. Looking forward to JPJ. That'll just be crazy. I wonder if he is producing Dave or Gillian? They really need to put out some music. Harrow & Harvest was disappointing after such a long wait. Especially after she's written some killer songs for others.
  10. Right, I really wish they'd put out a show with Zappa doing Stinkfoot with the vocoder. I may have missed it though. It's hard to keep up. Incidentally, I love joking with my kids that they have Dromidrosis.
  11. Good call on 6/28/92. That was a great show. The next night was horrible :-) I'd love to get an official release of that. As far as comps go, a Deercreek comp from the 90s would be cool. They played well there until the end. Also, how about a comp of tunes highlighting garcia's new guitar from the 90s. It almost sounded acoustic at times. Such a clean sound. The Oregon show mentioned above is a good example. A Fall 93 comp perhaps. 6-28-92 Set 1: Help On The Way Slipknot! Franklin's Tower Wang Dang Doodle Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues To Lay Me Down El Paso New Speedway Boogie Smok
  12. I'm the same way. I do enjoy every era. It is fun to hear a killer 74 show and then a 90s show. Corinna did open up quite a bit a few times. Especially into drums.
  13. The only one raining on the parade is you, Shug. Take it easy. There's nothing worse than someone attempting to dictate the tone of a thread. ..... As for comps, yes, phil zone was great. I love having that Visions of Johnna without having to listen to the entire show. I'd love to see a spring 93 comp. There were some gems that tour. Maybe splice the tunes together and do some editing a la Without A Net.
  14. Mr. Heartbreak, I agree with you. I too love Reckoning and Dead Set. And I can't stand the arbitrary 'who's a real deadhead bull shit'! There's lots of different areas for fans to dig into. I like the curated releases like Deadset and Without a Net. These shows being released are kind of a money grab, which I can't blame them for, but I wish they'd just make all shows available for $10 download. If they want to put out a product, then they should be edited and fixed. Leave the warts on the downloads though.
  15. Heartbreak, you're the man! Love Camarillo Brillo! Zappa's little guitar licks just kill me on that one. Also love Visions of Johanna. Is that 66 version the same one that's on Biograph? I've been meaning to get into Neal Casal. He's great in CRB and would love to see him in one of Phil or Bobby's band.
  16. Those were pretty bad, but I liked a few tunes on the them (After the Garden, Just Singing a Song). I couldn't find one redeeming tune on Le Noise. I did like Psychedelic Pill, but a 25 minute song? It had some good songs, but it was such a sloppy album, even by Crazy Horse standards. And, yeah, I know Neil does what he wants. A true artist. Lately, he seems like more of an asshole than anything else. Selling Blue-Ray to his fans and monthly archive downloads that stopped almost immediately. Now he's gonna sell all of his music again via PONO. What I can't figure out is the Neil apolog
  17. I'm with others, this doesn't happen with me any more. When i was younger, yes. Zep IV over and over and over. I could listen to pretty much anything by the Dead over and over. See The Changes-CSNY Tell Me Why-Neil Young Wondrous Stories-Yes Rift-Phish Jack Straw-Grateful Dead One Wing-Wilco Keep On Tryin'-Poco
  18. Springsteen, Replacements, VU, Nirvana....good calls. I like Bruce a bit, but his shtick was really revealed to me when I saw him live. It was like a well intentioned musical. All the songs didn't seem to come from the heart but from a place of 'i'm gonna write these anthems to play in arenas'. it seem very calculated to me. i'm a cynic though. wilco is as curated as it gets.
  19. i'm a huge fan, but neil young? i really can't explain his success. it's been problem for him to, me thinks. he's put out loads of crap since the 70s (crap i tend to like), and everyone gobbles it up. i wish these heritage artists still had something to prove, then they maybe wouldn't release every tune that comes out of their ass. case in point, neil's le noise. that album is laughably bad. dylan, for some reason has remained strong since his last mis-step of under a red sky.
  20. This looks interesting. I would like to see something a little different than what's come before. Not sure what I expect from this dude anymore. I would much rather see Homegrown, Toast, Oceanside/Countryside or Archives II. Maybe these mythical releases are not that good and that's why Neil keeps releasing stuff from Archive I era. Don't forget Pono http://neilyoungnews.thrasherswheat.org Thrasher has some interesting info. The version of Sky About To Rain is the same from Archives I.
  21. Selling show after show and these series releases never really interested me. I'd much rather see them open up a digital store for all the shows including Ratdog, Otherones, Furthur, The Dead etc. I'd also like Dave to put some time in putting together best of sets a la Without a Net from the less than stellar tours of the 90s. A spring 93 set would be a great place to start. Of course, the series and sets are money makers, so i see why they keep up with it.
  22. I second Audition Tapes. Everyone here needs to check it out. Endorsed by Patterson Hood.
  23. i'm a fan of 80, but this show is nothing special. i'm really not sure what the big deal is. everyone talks of how legendary it is and never gives any explaination of what the legend is. also, been re-reading Blair Jackson's Garcia. it has some interesting tidbits (solo tour 84?), but is really focused on Jerry's drug use, which is a drag. also, he really give's weir short shrift by saying, 'he really became a fairly good songwriter by the end of the 70s'. WTF? that's just a ludicris statement. also, Blair seems to love the mid 80s, so i revisited a few select shows. Garcia was suppo
  24. i just love kurt vile's from this year. this dude is on the way up. looking forward to what he does next.
